- It's my Birthday so I'm making a cocktail for one of my favorite flicks from the 80's.
**********************************
The Breakfast Club came out in 1985 and was John Hughes' second feature film, his followup to 16 Candles. Starring Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, Jud Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall as five teenagers stuck in an all day Saturday detention at Shermer Illinois High School for various, serious, (likely criminal...) infractions against school rules. It's one of THE CLASSIC 80's Teen flicks and probably my favorite (Who knows, opinions change daily) but it really set the tone for the form. Here we see a group of kids from various backgrounds and walks of life find out there's not so much separating themselves from each other come together as single day friends, only to end it knowing that come Monday they'll all be back to hating each other again. It's bleak. But also very honest, and that's something that can often be lacking in movies.
John Hughes broke all kinds of ground by casting actual teenagers (well, two of them anyway, Anthony Michael Hall and Molly Ringwald) and making extensive use of a soundtrack of contemporary popular music.
In this drink I take primary inspiration from the films title, The Breakfast Club, and make a drink designed to please really only myself (and maybe Ally Sheedy's sugar addict character), consisting of breakfast cereal and bourbon. The recipe relies on Cereal Milk, and ingredient invented and refined by Christine Tosi of MomoFuku Milk Bar fame. To make that you should follow this recipe:
www.seriouseat...
Breakfast Club Cocktail
2 oz. or 60 ml. Cereal Milk
.5 oz. or 15 ml. Demerara Syrup
1.5 oz. or 45 ml. Bourbon
Shake over ice
Serve up
Grate Dry Lucky charms cereal over top
Garnish with a float of Lucky Charms marshmallows

Happy Birthday. It's my birthday too.
Happy birthday Greg!
Happy birthday dude!!! It's also a close friend's birthday so I sent them this 😂
Happy birthday mine was yesterday
Happy Birthday!!!!!! 🥳
Sober Greg: pours everything everywhere and drops things
Drunk Greg: pours every shot perfectly and sings in-tune
Take that, alcoholism!
Also, Happy Birthday! (to you Greg, not alcoholism)
Rufus , just Rufus also bowls a perfect game
I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a professional.
You see, an alcoholic has to pay to get drunk, whereas I _get_ paid to get drunk.
Ahem, it's called functioning alcoholism, thank you very much
not an alcoholic, a drunk, alcoholics go to meetings, drunks go to parties
i get super powers from alcohol, i suddenly run fast as all hell, unlimited stamina and explosive strength goes up a lot
Me: Is this his first drink of the day?
Greg: *M A M A F U C K U*
Me: Nope...
(P.S. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!)
You, fuck you, MAMA Fuckyu, 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I started this channel as a way to learn more drinks and now it's my favorite classic movie review with a garnish of alcohol.
Haha I feel the same way. I can't even drink most of this stuff (I'm not old enough to drink alcohol) but I just love watching his videos too much.
@@despicablepenguin
I prob won't drink most of his creations, but I watch to satisfy my inner foodie.
I think the fact you watch, but can't drink implies there's a foodie in you as well! 👏
When Greg did the "NO DAD, WHAT ABOUT YOU"
Immediately made me wanna go watch that movie again, I love Bender man.
Greg I recently quit drinking but I keep coming back to this show partially for my appreciation of the craft but mostly, because of you. You're unapologetically yourself, the feminine, the masculine, the passionate, the bored, the serious, the comedic, and all the rest exhibits the traits of a truly genuine host. Thank you for that and a very very happy birthday!
Same. 4.5 years sober but really enjoy watching him unravel his nerdom & passions.
When will he make a drink up about the Labyrinth? What would David Bowie have been drinking?
Anything.
Life
Apple juice
LSD and crack
Cocaine probably. And I see him as a gin drinker, nothing to back it up, he was just too classy
Can't say how much your mean to us, the viewers. Happy drunken birthday.
I'm worried that if they keep up this fast-paced production schedule, next thing you know, old Greg here is going to be drinking Baileys from a shoe and serenading us with his rendition of "Love Games".
Take it easy, buddy.
Mmmmmm, creamy
Can you learn to love me
I'd still watch it.
More people need to know about the mighty boosh
This is all great stuff here, good job everyone.
What is "Heathers" doing in the "bad" column? And "Adventures in Babysitting" is just a knock-off of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", which is completely missing for some incomprehensible reason.
I agree. Heathers was is a classic!!!
Completely agree. “Heathers” was an amazing movie. Take it back.
I thought the exact same thing but then I was like, yeah maybe you're right. I liked the musical more.
Heathers is terrible
Heathers is a pretty good flick ! BUT ! I'm wondering why Bachelor Party is on there ! Thats not a teen movie ! And definitely not bad !
Hello? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
How has no one said hello to you here yet? Fun fact I use Squozen for my mixed drinks that require it
Drugs?
Bueller?
Putting Heathers in the "bad" category is a bold move.
Patavinity as is pretty in pink
And Revenge of the Nerds
Brian Turnbough eh that one hasn’t aged so well
AGREED. Heathers is amazing
THIS. also Pretty in Pink.
Paused it just to spot Ferris Bueller (the actual best movie of all time), and I'm so disappointed Greg. Detention for you.
So, that squid ink drink wasn't weird? Butter beer? Perfectly normal.
I love how many people watch both Babish and Greg. It's fantastic.
RAmen my brother. May his noodliness bless you this day
@@CyrusdVulture Who the hell is Babish?
@@balzonurchin Binging with Babish. He makes food from shows and movies.
They did an episode together. It was great
Happy Birthday Greg! If you’re still curious about Milk Bar and the (ridiculously creative) mind of Christina Tosi, they did an episode about her in Netflix’s Chef’s Table (Volume 4, Episode 1). There’s a treat called Crack Pie that I think might be another cocktail inspiration...
I’ve eaten a lot of crack pie. Like I said I used to live around the corner
Heathers on the bad list? You are gonna make a lot of people mad Greg, you are gonna make a lot of people mad.
And heathers fans are the worst people to ever piss off
He must do the right thing, not the popular thing.
@@rafyhay5916 Veronika and JD did make the school a nicer place, sure their results were a little extreme, but the extreme always makes an impression.
"This was almost an episode about WarGames."
It could have just been an episode about Ally Sheedy too by the sounds of it.
More Ally Sheedy ! Want to see a Short Circuit cocktail.
Greg: "This episode is gonna be really weird, and I don't care."
Me: "We already have so much in common. I adore you."
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Petrichor La Fey you’re a special snowflake aren’t you
@@ayylien6148 Oh yes, and I sparkle in the sun with all the colors of the rainbow! YIPPEE!!!!!
@@ayylien6148 In what exactly? I'm only really good at playing solitaire and that's not multiplayer.
I worked at an ice cream shop that did some riffs of Milk Bar's cereal milk stuff. We do cinnamon toast crunch and fruity pebbles ice cream. I'd be interested to use the cereal milk from one of those to make something along the same lines! Another great video, Happy Birthday Greg!
“Screws fall out all the time, the world is an imperfect place.”
Just started the tradition to make sunday-cocktails at home only using your recepes and ways to prep the drink.
Today we had your Breakfast-Club-Cocktail and OMG it is SO yummy!!! Thank you for sharing
I regularly float my cereal with a bit of bourbon.
Oh my god Greg… I finally got around to trying this. It was gone in seconds. This is one of the best drinks to pass my lips in years. Thank you!
Those cereal milk pours are the best pours I've seen on this channel
💙💚❤💛 Happy Birthday you goof!! The Breakfast Club felt very real to me as I saw it in high school in the theater. I have learned that the way to avoid the dreaded curse of your heart dying when you grow up, is to stay young at heart... This drink is very lovely, and I'm sure it's the birthday cake of cocktails. You deserve a great day, and a great year! Watching you ramble on with fun facts about the Breakfast Club has made me happy.
Happy birthday Greg! I, too, love The Breakfast Club & this episode is probably one of my favorites now.
Absolutely! I agree in both cases and thoroughly enjoyed how much your passion was on display! Happy birthday Greg from a brain!
Please play this song on your 1980 boombox , standing on your lawn mower, under my window! 🤩 Happy birthday Greg!
Its his birthday and he'll drink if he wants to

Happy Birthday, best wishes on another great year filled with more great drinks!
I CAN DRINK AGAIN!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY GREG!!!
BASKETCASES AND BOURBON FOREVER!!!!
Was totally going to say happy birthday until I saw Heathers in the bad category
Happy Birthday kid, many more. Awesome job with this episode, The Breakfast Club is timeless, so are you, you're show is way ahead of its time. Congratulations again on your birthday 🎂🥳🍸
WOOOOOW... No swear word bleeps! im impressed! keep it up!.
the joy filled tasting notes gave me so much secondhand happiness
"Heather's" belongs in the Good category dude, sorry you're wrong.
Please try using a Greek spirit called Ouzo in a cocktail! It has an amazing aniseed flavour and could be great fun!
Thats similar to rakı aint ? I have heard ouzo has mint and some other spices tho
@@canerbaykara4591 Raki or tsikudia as it's called in some areas, is similar to another spirit called Tsipouro. Raki is made basically from grapes and the remains of grapes, and it's single distilled, tsipouro is double distilled raki, and has some anise and herbs added on the second distilation. Ouzo however is based on melases and grain products, its a bit sweeter, and its distilled using plenty of herbs, with the main one being anise. Actual Greek here, this info is as accurate as it gets ^ Εις υγειαν!! (Cheers!)
@@TidusfromZanarkand thanks man i tought both were made feom grapes and just the spices differed
That shit nasty
@@canerbaykara4591 You are welcome brother
The Breakfast Club is one of the few movies I can watch over and over and over again and it doesn't get old!
Cigar burns, gothic depression, anti establishment, rebellious attitudes And raging against the system lol that's what makes me think of breakfast club oh and the creepy janitor.
Dare I say the best cocktail channel on the internet?
Congratulations and a reminder that this show is amazing. Great host for one, but the entire crew does an amazing job. Stunning camerawork and editing, sound, all around.
RumChata, which I love, always tastes like milk after Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Do you like it? Happy bday!
Happy birthday, you lovable drunk weirdo!
Happy Birthday! Thanks for always cheering me up from my crappy job.
A Breakfast Club Cocktail made with Bourbon, and not using Rebel Yell...?
Many happy returns old chap. I'm drinking a moonshine and coke....One of my favourite movies, had the full size theatre poster on my wall at college back in 1987....
Move over Bloody Mary's there's a new breakfast drink in town. Also Happy Birthday thanks for the entertainment and recipes.
Man, this channel makes me so fucking happy. I feel like I can relate to you so hard, even though I'm in highschool and you're a primordial being, older than. You make every episode so fun and somehow make it feel personal, even though we're all just watching from screens. You have this rad energy that makes it feel like we're in the same room. I really love how a lot of these episodes are half about the drink, and half about the peice of culture the drink is based on, and how you feel about it. It's cool the way you get into details, and the little fun facts you give. Also, you have great taste in movies (even though you don't like Heathers, but I'll let that slide.) This went on way longer than i thought, but happy birthday Greg, i love your content and your personality, hope you have a good one.
Ally Sheedy in Wargames, yes please. That scene where she traps him between her legs and the desk... Dear lord.
Everything about this video made me smile. Happy birthday Greg
Have you done anything based on Boondock Saints?
Also, Tuesday show idea: Day Drinking with Greg
It would be an understatement to say that Boondock Saints is not my favorite channel.
Dude! I need it. Boondock Saints is one of my favorite movies of all time! Norman Reedus' terrible accent and all 😂
Loved this one and yes is will always be the very best movie. I'm stoked to see you did this one for your birthday show. It says a lot and now I know exactly why I love your channel. You rock brother! Now to find this cereal milk recipe...
We need more “weird” drinks!!!
Wait...Revenge of the Nerds is on the “bad” list!?! I don’t know if we can be friends anymore Greg.
this drink is absolute genius. I must have made it a dozentimes since seeing this video. Greg will go down in the pantheon of bartending for this one.
That's when the trouble began. The smile: 0:06 . That damn smile.

Lmao how can anyone take credit for "cereal milk", I feel like we've all been making it since we were 7 years old anyways

I finally took the time to make this cocktail. Like Greg said, pure joy. I substituted the cereal for honey granola and the Demerara syrup for honey. I'm calling my variation "The Land of Milk and Honey". Thanks so much for the inspiration Greg!
Happy birthday and again I have to say that the person or persons responsible for the editing gives this show an attractive extra style that is great!

"Heather's and revenge of the nerds in the bad column." Best DJT impression: W R O N G
heathers is better as a musical then it is as the movie and revenge of the nerds is p bad in that one of the characters straight up like r*pes someone???
Revenge of the nerds has aged possibly the worst of any movie. The r*pe scene is rough
@@theycallmemagic the movie is better than the musical. Making JD have any actual love for Veronica ruins the point of his character, and they did that to make it more palatable for normal people with money to watch a musical

How dare you, sir!
Pretty in Pink is an amazing movie and shame on you for placing it in the "bad" column.
Yeah doesn’t make sense. If you like the breakfast club, you “should” like pretty in pink too.
I was watching this while having an afternoon cereal snack. I was having cinnamon toast crunch and then saved the cereal milk at the end. I mixed it with bourbon and brown sugar simple syrup. Honestly not bad. If you like white Russian's then this is not far off. It was nice with the milky cinnamon taste and a smooth bourbon finish.
