Man, I'm 37, haven't been able to ride since 2012 but now I'm 60 pounds lighter at 150 now and just got a 250 after spending all my time on 450's since 02 and I'm not sure I'd want a 450 anymore
@@KosmicHRTRacingTeam I think it depends on your goals. As a 44 year old who's just under 6' and weighs 205ish...a 250 works fine. Of course, even when I raced as a teen I was never the most technical rider. So, I'm sure my riding style has a ton to do with it.
250 I mean. Like to see him on a PC kawi or Star bike. Or shit give Michel Lindsey’s team some of those factory Hondas that the Lawrence brothers been killing it with all year.
Agreed. He definitely deserves more factory support. If his bike didn’t stop working at southwick and Millville. He would have finished in the top 10 overall at both of them. GET THIS TALENTED KID MORE FACTORY SUPPORT. Btw Coty grew up 2 minutes from where I live
Wardy was around 150 lbs riding a 500 cc two stroke back in the day! He was in amazing shape and was strong enough to hang on. Go back and watch the 1987 millville 500 national between Wardy and RJ. He was absolutely flying down some of those straightaways. To see how fast they accelerated out of corners was amazing...
@@brucefile7430 I just finished rebuilding a vintage 2 stroke. 1989 RMX frame and gas tank but it has a 1988 RM250 engine and plastics, its the faster engine between the two. I guess RMX was trail and enduro and RM was motocross. What do think it's worth, I have no idea but it's very very clean, looks like new and I'd say 85 percent of the bike has new parts.
I can relate not weighing alot, im 14 and weigh 105 lbs and im 5'7" so my 125 (2t) will just pick up on the front like im not there at all and it take alot of energy just to get it to lay down in the corner. esp in school boy 1 and 250 C with the big boys in my class. But it is what it is I guess continuing to work out will help
Yep. Jeff was a good friend of my Bro’s (he even bought his MXDN kx125 off him, well technically off of Kawi). Not only was Jeff super light, he is very short.
I moved up the bike scale pretty fast....never raced just rode a lot growing up. Rode my 1st bike, an 89 XR80 from 9-11 and then got a 1986 YZ80 for a year when I was 12. Jumped up to a 91 KX125 when I was 13 and 6 months later my older brother upgraded his CR250 and I already wanted more power. I sold my 125 and bought his 91CR250. I think I had just cracked the 110-115 lb range. I'd ridden my older bros 89CR500 by that point too. 115 lbs on a 500 2t is about as noticeable as a fly landing on a horse😂 Most of our riding was dune riding and open desert. I could put that 500 into 4th gear and lug it anywhere I wanted to go at Sand Mountain in Nevada. 1300 vert sand hill climbs were no match for that bike. Didn't even need paddle tires.
Curious why this “450 issue” was never such a big deal when RC, bubba and even VP were around. Is it that the bikes are just that much more powerful (10-15%) and that much heavier (10-15%) now? All of those guys were pretty light as well
Honestly the opposite: they are so much more linear and “rideable” nowadays. I don’t get it either. I love my 450 because I know I’ll never outride it.
@@Mountain_Yeti ya, but part of the HUGE complaints we keep hearing is that they are saying they are coming into corners way too fast and it’s much harder to get the bike slowed down (faster and heavier?) and get it turned (heavier?) and so the constant heavy braking is wearing them out. We do hear issues of the power ripping their arms off (like mentioned, never heard Bubba, RC or VP bitching about this stuff) and with the parts that factory teams have, I’m not sure the bikes back then couldn’t be tuned to be just as linear if they wanted (some basic carb mods did wonders for this). 🤷🏻♂️
Ryan Hughes talked about how the tracks today are too smooth and maintained too well. Whoops not sharp anymore, too rounded off. So they are carrying more speed everywhere. I’m sure the factory bikes have also improved significantly since RC retired in 2007. Combine the two and I think that’s why people are saying they’re too fast for current tracks.
@@seashackf1 good points. Also, we seem to hear the pros talk much more about it for SX and less in MX and seems like we hardly ever hear the euros talk about it (maybe since their outdoor tracks are so much different than ours).
@@KosmicHRTRacingTeam check out the Ryno interview with Gypsy, he talked about how different Mxgp is from here. Tracks there are much more technical, and riders here won’t do well on them. Also heard a mxgp rider say tracks are very different, they don’t scrub….ever. Tight corner straight into triples.
Just never buy 4 stroke and keep being a man. Buy CR500 and wide open throttle 24/7 dont let off that bltch. Get a 250 2 stroke they still compete with 450 4 strokes.
The weight thing is bullshit It's training and talent. Most motocrossers are not big guys to begin with. Who is the heaviest factory rider and how much does he weigh 170?
450s can get you in trouble quick but there also way easier to save yourself on. if your a physically fit dude anyone can handle a 450 if your talking weight vs a 250. imo a stock 450 is the easiest bike to ride.
The bikes have been the same weight for years.and it isn't much money to get a bike to ama minimum weight and the weights been the same for a long time.if you look at the lap times on most tracks that hasn't changed the layout much the lap times are close to what they where 15 years ago.it comes down to who is mentally and physically prepared that moto.450 is not too fast guys are just not prepared and are off a little then the next guy
@@stevehartwell1861 actually, it is an incredible amount of weight when you are talking about such light bikes.
