Did three Vietnam cruises on Oriskany. 1971 to 74. Slept just below the flight deck between the two catapults. Cross the Equator two times aboard the Oriskany. A trip to Mombasa Kenya 1973 during the Yom Kippur War. I live two hours from Oriskany New York and went to see the ship's Bell and one of the ships anchors at the Oriskany museum.
@@lorenzomaximo1818 Well either way thank you for your service. I am about to start training to become a certified diver and one day hope to dive on your ship!
This is wild I never knew you could do dive tours there. My grandpa was stationed on that ship when it caught fire. He was stuck for days, but he got out. Many people were trapped on it as it burned. May they rest in peace.
Great marketing piece for diving the Mighty O. However, being a past Oriskany sailor, I wouldn't refer to it as a wreck. To me, it's more of a sunken memorial to the many men who lost their lives fighting for her (on October 26, 1966) or flying off of her in support of our country's effort against unrighteous aggression and unrighteous regimes.
I would love to have bolts or something from the big o..my dad served on the big o on a west pac tour before the big explosion.. sadly he died of mesothelioma 6 years ago.. from the big O..
Hard to watch this, made 2 cruises on the BIG O in the early 60’s with VAH-4, very well run ship, clean with the best chow a sailor could ask for, sad to see her laying on the bottom of Gulf!
They could have given me that ship to use in Antarctica to try to escape this bullshit world . At least it would still be floating and with a few airplanes on it
A one-of-a-kind diving experience, the sunken aircraft carrier USS Oriskany is the largest artificial reef in the world. #LoveFL

Wow that’s amazing. Have you ever considered training to scuba dive on it?

I don't think I could handle the program. I have Parkinson's from Agent Orange in Vietnam. Plus a host of other problems.

Thanks man appreciate the gesture. I can't believe it was 50 years ago I was on that ship. I got old when I wasn't looking.
1970 for awhile. Slept just below the cables. Paint chips would fall into my rack. Cat troubleshooter VAQ-130 inches gulf of tonkin

It's a popular diving spot, though reaching the flight deck requires additional training and equipment
Best kept secret... that you just announced on RUclips
I actually prefer diving down to the wreck of the Titantic than the Oriskany.

Thank you for your service. I'll start thinking of your ship as a memorial from now on ;)
Curst Saden me too.
Me 3. Thank you for your service
I have GOT to dive here!
i wish they would have sunk it about 50 feet shallower
Does the Oriskany have mooring balls attached now, or is it still required to run a mooring line down to it? Thanks!
I would love to have bolts or something from the big o..my dad served on the big o on a west pac tour before the big explosion.. sadly he died of mesothelioma 6 years ago.. from the big O..
My condolences.
