Awesome place in summer boring dump in winter. The university was like a too large woman trying to squeeze in to a too small dress back in 2009 when I went there.

As a commercial marketing project this video is great, but as an informative video for the upcoming students is misleading and not entirely true. I've been here as an exchange student for some months now (""spring semester"" means 3/4/5 January to 15 of June). This video will show you only the good stuff that you will be systematically missing or not enjoying fully, simply because either you will come from September to January or from January to June you won't live the summertime here, which btw, is very short.
So maybe the first semester is better to have some warmth in the beginning but it will get very cold soon...
Now, (1st of May) it is chilly, 16 °C if fully sunny and no wind (there will always be a col breeze) during the midday hours, but still 1/2 °C during the night...Apparently, the spring arrived just a week ago...
ALL the places including the "great" and "new" area near the sea, which from this video seem to be a place for young/students but the truth is that is extremely expensive: icecream (industrial ice cream or frozen cream slush with some cacao on it) won't be less than 5€ for the small one. A portion of Nachos in the Mexican restaurant, on average, stands at 20€. The cute restaurants are on a 70€ menu basis.
Norway is expensive and you know this if you are Norwegian or you have a lot of money to spend you won't find any problems.
Still, the place and the abundance of beautiful places will be stunning for sure, in any season and in any conditions, try everything, just come properly equipped (don't expect to buy here clothes!!! they will cost you a paycheck!!). Remember to bring a serious down jacket for the winter, the apparent temperature won't be less than -4 °C but the freezing wet wind will get you in serious trouble if you don't cover yourself. It's better to have a down Goretex jacket.
Umbrellas are the most useless item here, never seen it on someone and I got the point why. The wind will crush it or the rain will come on the side...
