I love, love, love, love this conversation with him. I got this on my Dark Urge playthrough in the Last Light Inn, which gave me much better light to see his face than my first playthrough so I could finally upload this :)
It should be your first or second Battle in act 2 after you've progressed with him romantically in act 1. There'd quite a hiatus and you have to keep your approval rating
What alwazarascal said, but I think this one came later than first fights. I think it's more around helping to defend the Harpers. In my first playthrough we progressed from the Underdark and I got his conversation when meeting the Harpers near the entrance, and this playthrough we came from the Mountain pass and did bunch of fights around there before defending the Last Light Inn, there this conversation happened.

Thank you for uploading. I was playing Astarion-Origin when I got this and it seemed to fit almost too perfectly for a scripted event. 😅

Mine happened when we just left the underdark....and walking in the forest. Completely lost. Lol
