the sandman is also a popular children's character in germany, he basically helps kids fall asleep with his sand which he throws in their eyes every night

He blows "sand" in to the kids face and that makes thats why the eyes are ruff when you are sleepy and when you wake up the crusty stuff in the corner of the eyes is the sand from the sand man, at least thats what i was told as a child haha

Oh man, I hoped that you'd also mention the last part of "Ende", where he talks about his newborn child. I felt like it's a very sweet and concluding ending for such a sad and depressing album, especially how he connects that laest verse to his past.

Thank you so much for pulling through with this review. Some really interesting insights in there that I hadn't even thought about. I hope all your other German speaking viewers got as much out of this as I did. I would love to hear some examples of his genius rhyming on this album from everyone else, there are just so many great moments. A couple small things:
    1. "Töle" doesn't really mean fool, although you could use it in that context, it's actually a demeaning term for a dog.
    2. Being a little pedantic here but Saarbrücken actually isn't a state of Germany, it's the capital of the state Saarland.

wow, crazy to see you reviewing this album. it's probably by far my favorite deutschrap album. keemo really is goated. the album released on January 7th of 2022 and everyone knew IMMEDIATELY it will be the AOTY here in Germany.
What I also love about Keemo (similar to Kendrick) is that he doesnt have a big (social) media presence and is just doing his stuff. "Mann Beisst Hund" barely had any big marketing rollout but crushed the streaming charts on release - solely because it was THAT good. Everyone was talking about it.
Even though he said he wants to be seen as a unique artist, it's really difficult not to compare him to kendrick. Similarly to Kenny, Keemo also loves doing conceptual albums, is versatile, lyrically on point, more of an introverted shy virtuoso, raps a lot about gang life, and is both respected by the streets and "middle class white" audiences.
interesting to hear you speak on the rhyme patterns. i feel like in german there is much more emphasis on multiple syllable rhymes than in the English language. keemo is also known to have unpredictable and intricate rhyme schemes. he utilizes LOTS of internal rhymes. often times he places his "major" rhymes later or earlier than expected, too. quite unique.
his way of rapping and flow has also been compared to old school US-artists a lot (for example wu tang), he's really just floating over the beat and makes it seem effortless. has a very free form.
funkvater frank probably the most daring and interesting producer in germany right now. he doesnt miss and is a huge music nerd. him and keemo are a great pairing and it perfectly shows on this album.
Vögel and Töle to me will go down as two of the greatest deutschrap tracks OAT. Especially Vögel is giving me goosebumps every time, the writing and storytelling is INSANE on that one.
overall the way he implemented the themes of dogs and birds throughout the album is super well-executed. "Töle" btw is a derogatory german term for "dogs".
Music videos are also pretty creative and fit the album very well!
I would've loved to recommend you other deutschrap artists but as of right now no one really comes close to Keemo IMO. He's one of a kind, also a great live performer.
PS. loved to see my hometown Köln in the end there. Also shoutout to Saarbrücken, lovely place, I studied there lol

I wanted to share some of my favorite Rhymes from OG Keemo:
First of all i want to mention that his way of rhyming is unique! There isnt a single german rapper who has such a komplex pattern as OG Keemo does. For example:
    Der Hund bellte laut.
Er heißt Atilla sagt er und lobt diesen Doberman so als wäre er sein eigener Sohn
in this example you have a kind of AABA pattern but compromised in 3 lines and not 4
OG Keemo also work in A LOT of assonance (as u can see with the "o" and the "ä,ei")

The fact that your German pronunciation is so bad (no offense, how could it be any good if you don’t speak the language?) is made even funnier by how good your pronunciation is at 20:18 where you simply drop the "Kinski accent". Up to a certain point the definition of eastern Europe is always one country further to the east and people get offended by it. Austrians will tell you it starts in Czechia, Czechs will tell you it's Hungary and Hungarians will tell you it's Romania and they I think are cool with it, but don't quote me on that.

Keith Haring makes art in which people look like outlines drawn by cops around a dead corpse - so keemo just states with this comparison that he leaves a crime scene behind him, a dead man basically
Keemo also calls himself ghost or Poltergeist that often, because his previous album was called 'Geist'
Trainingsanzug means tracksuit - the word 'Zug' as 'train' is in the word but its read together as 'Anzug' which you could translate as some noun to 'pull on' ('anziehen' in German) - as you put on a training suit
Why the German word 'Zug' is in there? It is just like the noun to 'ziehen' (English pull) in German and functions as a homonym
Maybe trains are called Zug here, because the vehicles are kinda pulled over the railway

Sandmann as far as I can tell is more about the Sandmännchen. It's a daily German TV show that runs at quarter to 8pm. The Sandmännchen puts dust in kids eyes to make them fall asleep. It is supposed to send children to bed, so the parents can than watch then news at 8 and then a movie after. So a more kid friendly version of the Sandmann.

I think one of the misconceptions of german as a language, is that it is super rough. I will admit, that it might be a bit more rough than other languages, but what people assume is, that german functions like english, where you pronounce every letter somewhat equally. In german a lot consonants are flattened when spoken. An ER at the end of a word will turn into a barely spoke UH sound or if a word ends on EN you often don't even open your lips for it. This makes it so much more fluid to speak, than it might appear written.

Another album that reminds me of GKMC is an album by Bambu called 'Exrcising A Demon - Article I: A Few Left'
Bambu grew up in the Filipino-American gang Sathanas in LA before he served the US Marines but came out deep into MLM political ideology. About 20 years into the rap game, he started a 5-album series to document not just his upbringing but the Filipino diaspora. Honestly one of the most insightful hip-hop albums out there, but completely slept on in the underground

  • @lourBoB
    @lourBoB Год назад +1

You are missinterpreting some things, which is obvious when you dont speak the language / know the culture. I personaly think for example that Regen is about malik showing first signs of becoming tired of streetlife, but he will never be able to escape it (see Tölle).
The song sandmann is called like this because there is a kids show featuring the sandman. He puts Sand in the eyes of people to make them fall asleep. Keemo uses this as a metaphor for killing people. This is why he calls himself the sandmann

    • @lourBoB
