- The worst humanitarian and displacement crisis in the world right now is in Sudan. The World Food Programme says nearly 25 million people are facing acute food shortages - all driven by a war that has received little international attention.
Aid organizations warn that the dimension of the crisis surpasses those in Ukraine, Gaza and Somalia combined. The conflict has been running since 2023, pitting army chief and de facto president Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan against his former deputy Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, or RSF. The fighting has displaced 12 million people, roughly a quarter of the population. Yet, the crisis is barely present in the international media. That’s partly because journalists are rarely given access to the war zone. But DW correspondent Mariel Müller managed to secure permission to film from the Sudanese army. Embedded with military forces, she traveled to the capital Khartoum, where the paramilitary RSF control swathes of territory and the battle for dominance continues to rage - leaving the civilian population trapped in the crossfire. And the conflict shows no signs of ending soon.

*THIS IS NOT WAR THIS IS GENOCIDE*
Where are all the Influencer on tiktok or instagram talking about this?
@nataliezementbeisser1492 not on your page im assuming .maybe look it up
@nataliezementbeisser1492 nowhere to be seen because this topic ia not "trending" WHICH IS HORRIBLE to think it needs to be some kind of trend to speak for people affected by war and genocide
@nataliezementbeisser1492I just now found out about it. 😮
@SherriSolomon-n5v and what are you doing now
Sad to imagine that President Ruto of Kenya is laying a red carpet for the RSF commanders in Nairobi. Never felt this ashamed to be Kenyan.
Me too walai,I really felt bad
do not be ashamed for their behavior!! u r a proud people ❤ yall are true Kenyans
I am really ashamed of our president. He is not human.
Yup make sudan muslim 😂😂
So many people in the world yet the most horrible people end up in leadership positions causing pain, division, chaos, suffering, and war for people simply trying to live their life.
Welcome to human species;)
It’s not humanity smooth brain. The war is being funded by the UAE
@sorinancuta3934
Exactly 😢
Hello America..
SAD BUT TRUE 💔😢
10/10 this type of reporting is so important. Thank you
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
This is genocide. This isn’t propaganda. This is real genocide. You know this isn’t my part. I’m sorry, but this is worse. Where’s the protest? Where’s all those people that cared about Palestine? What did it fit? Their narrative is a forgotten war
I feel so sad watching innocent people dying for a war they have no hand in 😢
This is horrible situation
As a sudanese person this is heartbreaking, the amount of misery inflicted on civilians and no one willing to act 😔
This is heartbreaking!
not for everyone
It Heartbreaking But They Wanted It For Themselves,Because This Happen After They Kick Out Muslim Company And Welcome America Company
Those same muslim countries are funding the rsf@sayfolman7752
Families just wanna go with their life well, they’re just killing people is absolutely outrageous genocide just no other words to say and prayers might go out will never complain again about my life
As a young African , I can hardly remember a year without conflicts .
As soon as I could comprehend the word war , it was Liberia and Sierra Leone 2002 , Cote d'Ivoire , then Darfur , Congo ~2006 , Morocco - Saharawi , Libya , cote d'Ivoire ,Sudan 2011 , Northern Nigeria , English Speaking Cameroon , Somalia , Ethiopia 2020 , Mozambique 2022 ...Congo again ... Never ending conflicts !
And all caused by greed and ignorance
@divinegoddess8140 No! Cost by the history of colonial imperial legacies. The production of this documentary itself could've been used to ease the strife, but no "let us just forecast the precise struggle of the African. Okay where is the UN ? mxm
Rwanda
All Populated Muslim countries
@celinemlotshwa2744 Even if the colonialists want Africans to kill each other, why do AFricans choose to do it? Don't Africans have free will?
14:00 To the survivor, I hope you can hold your head high and look people in the eyes one day. You are so brave to tell your story. Please keep telling your story so that other women and girls do not suffer the same.
Heartbreaking, I'm speechless.
We didn't forget, it's the media who forgot to show the Sudan war.
No. The people don't care about it. This video exists, but many people just look away.
They didn't forget they just choose not to. From my perspective it's because they're both Muslims and black.
International journalists are not allowed to report up close for the most part. Keep watching videos on Sudan from the major networks. I watch dw, france tv, pbs newshour, etc. If people don't watch, then they won't be motivated to report on this crisis.
@kjy05 Yes, which means that is their own doing this to their own. Why are you criticizing the Western media? The African and Muslim world are so anti western yet moan about the West not saving them from themsleves. Who do they think fund most of the UN aid, food programmes ,ensure safe zones and attempt to negotiate aid corridors? Why arent the African Union or BRICS nations doing anything to stop this in their sphere of influence? Also, why are people having multiple children in a famine struck county riddled by war. These ex colonial nations want security and food offered by ex colonial powers but don't want to have any of the stuff that comes with that. It's horrible the things that happen to these people but it's is their own countrymen and cultural peers doing it to them.
I'd love to blame the media, but the fact is, war never seems to ever stop in Sudan (and other African countries). After a while, people get desensitized to it. I never seems to end.
Thank God for everything you have. I am saying to those encountering this particular video.
Part of the reason it's forgotten is cause the media focuses disproportionately on Israel-Palestine cause that gets extra clicks even though that neglects other important issues and stokes antisemitic and anti-Muslim sentiments.
Also Russia - Ukraine..
@kewsiyehboah9514Even that’s fallen by the wayside.
I would argue that it is also because it is self inflicted. It is Sudanese doing this to Sudsnese. Israel-Palestinian ,Russia-Ukraine and all other major conflicts that draw focus are about two separate entities/nations vying for power. Also, for the most part the war in Sudan has far less global impact than the war in the Middle East or Ukraine. Those impact global security, stability, global supply chains and can affect the whole world. The effects of the conflict in Sudan are terrible and sad but ultimately it is of little consequence to global affairs and therefore less focused on. Its harsh ,but actually makes sense.
@justg3495 then why did Sudan take UAE to court??... and the immigration to the West affects us very much.
@justg3495Wth is separate entities supposed to mean? 😮
Thanks for the superb reporting.
When you surrender your powers to politicians and expect them to take decisions on your behalf
Desperately sad 😢! Congratulations to the journalists that bring this cruel reality to us !! Let's pray for these innocent people!
Couldn't watch the hospital part of the video. This is disheartening. I hope the war ends ASAP.
Well made documentary, kudos to DW.
Same here. The hospital parts were really tough to watch
There are some videos of Sudan war if you watch them you won't eat
Terrible. Brother fighting against brother. No one wins. Everyone suffers!
Thanks for reporting this devastating situation.
It’s very heartbreaking to watch. But this is just half of what happened especially Darfur. The world focus only in Gaza and turned blind eye on Sudan and other victims involved in Congo, Central Republic African, etc
The two leaders of this sad war should stand in front of a group of displaced children and then explain/justify the war!
Thank you for not forgetting the people in peril in Sudan. Thank you for continuing to fight for their peace. 🇸🇩
Thank you so much Mariel Muller. Ive been following your African reports on DW for a while now. May your voice been heard by as many as possible ❤
This forever crisis in Sudan, Somalia, etc.. it need to end! The African Union should end all the wars in Africa, these countries can’t grow without peace.
The AU is useless, spineless and lazy those fools aren't doing jackshit cuz they don't care.
Only the people can make a difference
Until we know the meaning of true love ....High time for this people to learn other people culture and belief especiaaly ture love of JESUS CHRIST ..to set them free from hate
Facts 💯 @nicodemusngwala2079
RSF is backed by UAE I think, it’s difficult to fight against a country that rich and influential in the world.
@FBAagentthank you for using logic. This is literally the gulf states brutally killing with no regard for life.
Why are you killing each other and hurting your own people ?!?! It's really heartbreaking seeing innocent children suffering.
they are not our own people
it's not a sudanese sudanese war it's sudan vs every one else
@ you all live in the same country right? We’re all human beings who have family we love that love us so why kill each other and for what?!?!?
It always comes down to the same thing, old loser leaders (vast majority old men) unhappy with life destroying it for everyone else.
Everyone says unite.... Been saying that for a long time now, yet they remain separated.... Again comes the colonizers to destabilize and turn black folks against each other again, what's gonna be different this time around.... Why not make the united states of Africa.... USA 🤣 with one president, maybe ibrahim traore, build the military of Africa, he seems like a great fit anything else will likely lead to previous results, destabilization, exploitation and enslavement ..... Same thing happening here, history repeating itself at the expense of segregated people....
the RSF are a bunch of monsters/gangsters, but they get alot of support from the UAE and others in exchange for gold. They recruite or kidnap people from chad and other countries in this endevour. And they play god, killing, looting, comitting genocide, warcrimes and getting paid for it. The sudanese armed forces are no saints, but they are not like these monsters. This isn't a Sudanese on Sudanese war, this is a war between a brutal general and a mob of literal bloodthirsty monsters - powerhungry and backed by foreign nations in exchange for gold. The people of Sudan are some of the kindest and loving people on earth. So if you wanna point fingers, read up and put the blame where it belongs. Boycott UAE, talk to your politicians, donate. Just don't infantilise millions of people and question a whole suffering nation of 46 million peoples morality, its insulting. it didn't happen in a vacuume. There is alot of history, there was a recent revolution - the people fighting back after decades under a harsh dictatorship, then the people in power wanted to keep it. the few against the many, but they got the guns, and the guns keep pouring in aslong as foreign nations see profit in it. So yeah, its far more complex than 'a nation with a laps in morality'.
Wow great work DW, I had no idea this was going on. My heart breaks for these people and I hope they find peace soon
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
What you have seen is just a tip of the iceberg in my wounded country
Not a single news about this, everyone has attention towards gaza
Thank you DW for always bringing this to us. I, for one, am very particular about conflicts in Africa, there is so much pain and suffering unfortunately due to greed and selfishness.
Salute this dangerous reporting 👍👍
Every country is at war with others and within...smh
THE WHOLE WORLD IS IN TURMOIL RIGHT NOW WITH NO END IN SIGHT...😢😢😢
What is happening in Sudan is very devastating and media coverage is almost none. As a Sudanese, there is much much more to this war that is unknown, for example, in Merowe city in Northern Sudan, RSF militia has been launching missiles at us and they caused great damage to the power station which is supplying electricity to many areas. The targeting is getting more violent each time and what's even worse is that they are targeting the dam, which consequences would be catastrophic. Our families in Merowe are suffering, no elections for a long time and we were very worried about them cause we're outside Sudan and weren't able to contact them. Not to mention what has been happening in Al Jazira state. This war must STOP!
In 2025 and you are still resolving your issues with wars.
Very brave coverage DW. I pray for peace and wellness to the people of Sudan, they don’t deserve to go through this. One of the richest countries of oil and gold but still they die a meaningless death all because of the wickedness and greed of man kind
I hope they can resolve this situation as possible, unfortunately no amount of intervention or international aid will be able to stop this senless conflict if they don’t end it themselves
War against innocent civilians
Islam 😞 is the problem for this
I still could not understand specifically what this war is even about.
This is heartbreaking 💔 may all the innocent children be nourished and protected 🙏🏻✝️😢
Oh man, but we are Muslims and we do not believe in any god but Allah.
Thank you for making this video. Heartbreaking situation for many war victims
ልብ የሚሰብር ነው💔 May the good days return back sooner to the Sudanese our dear brothers🙏🏽
Does anyone even remember the good days?
Thank you for covering this story.
Thanks for watching!
Thanx for courageous correspondent not all heroes wear caps
😢 this is heartbreaking may God watch over them
Thank you for this! So incredibly heartbreaking! What can we do to help?
ban gun export to Africa!
This is just awful, Lord have mercy. So much unnecessary suffering. 💔
Allah is in charge my dear..
Such a shame to do this to their own innocent civilians. 😔
Isn’t Myron Gaines from Sudan? 😅
24/7 world focus on Gaza
even these people are Human beings 💔
God this world is fucked
As the population of world is increasing, the level of humanity is decreasing in humans. Peace must be kept alive at every cost because war is not a solution to any problem, instead it opens door to destruction which no sane person would even like to imagine in dreams and tasting its experience.
Prayers for all the suffering ones.
These people can’t do anything for themselves.
please stop This Brutal War For. God Sake
What can one say about so many innocent people suffering . It angers me !! All the while we watch and do nothing .
'Eating leaves for survival', World?
Thank you DW

Awful what we done to this place 🤬🤬🤬🤬
'we'? please don't tell me you caused this. because if you realize it's awful, you should stop.
nvm, i know this was a typo. however, yes it's sad and awful. not just what was done to the place, but its people too
@Strongify03017 yeah we I'm French get over it 👋🏿
@leiag201 thx for clarifying. oui
Thank you, DW,for this impartial and encompassing reporting on what's happening in my country. Your humanity shines through your interactions with the people you report on as well.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and experiences.
"Gum arabic, a vital ingredient used in everything from Coca-Cola to M&M’s sweets, is increasingly being trafficked from rebel-held areas of war-torn Sudan, traders and industry sources say, complicating Western companies’ efforts to insulate their supply chains from the conflict." (Middle East Monitor)
Thank you DW for highlighting such an important issue! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Thank you Beatriz for watching and leaving us your comment!
DW please do a documentary about president Ruto of Kenya, he is complicit in this genocide, he provides the weapons used by rsf@DWDocumentary
The Story of Suleiman and his aunt is heartbreaking
ooh my... i hope ruto has watched this
Praying for World Peace and freedom of the people.
I want this documentary in the original language
U mean the issue between Arab groups ?
@StevenRas-f6b I want to listen to the report in Arabic
He mean he want this documentary by Arabic IN order all the world to understand what happening IN Sudan
Both fighters yelling takbir
Sad dramatic situation for all the children. Military rule is no good. Hell on earth 🌎
It's heartbreaking to see the destruction and suffering caused by this war. The personal stories shared in this video are a powerful reminder of the humanitarian crisis happening in Sudan.
There dont have clean water but they have smart phones crazy. Poor people tho bless 😢
I feld three times thank you DW
we dont forget PRAY FOR SUDAN. we are so lucky to have our basic needs yet there are children, men and women starving and traumatized.
As Muslim nations like UAE are involved, every Muslim is silent on this. I wish if Israel were involved,......
ikr! nobody cares. nobody says boycott uae, or at least uae's gold. nobody says that at all.
They did not even blast Iran and Saudi Arabia for causing the Yemen crisis, which killed even more people than in Palestine.
@Strongify03017 That's a very strong statement to make considering you have no evidence for this.
@abdulrahman01234 Evidence? Where's your evidence to the contrary? All people have to do is simply use our ears and eyes.
@wombatmats I use my eyes and ears. Do you?
"When fans saw rapper Macklemore had cancelled an upcoming gig, some of them assumed it was in solidarity with Gaza.
But it wasn't. The gig was in Dubai and he had cancelled over the war in Sudan, which has already killed tens of thousands of people, left millions more hungry and triggered a humanitarian disaster."
- BBC News
Why"?! 💔😞 Are they doing this"?!
Poor ppl caught in the middle and have nothing to do with it😢
I cant imagine why the media isnt covering this properly, these people need aid and the countries that promised sudanese peolple democrasy have abandoned them
UAE are supporting RSF to control Sudan Gold.
I just want to adopt a kid from there or help a family. This is the saddest thing ever
Somehow Sudan's crisis is overshadowed by Palestine, but it's actually not a little bit less terrible! We can't forget Sudan, we have to stand up for humanity!!!
With this kind of behaviour Africa cant rise
@zooFlowz this is conflict is specific to Sudan, an individual country not the whole of Africa.
Africa is not a country
@aan3Is it though? Liberia, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Congo, Mali, Kenya, Somalia, Eritrea all suffer from or have suffered from the same kind of issues. It is much harder to name one that hasn't.
Just read their history out of curiosity nd this region is always in some kind of war, civil wars have been very common. Why?
Natural resources
This is so sad 😢is there any information for the boy with the amputated leg? 💔
the UN lady reminds me of a southpark episode
😢😢😢😢😢😢
It’s disheartening to see masses of people support Gaza online but at the same time happily ignore any other disaster such as the one in Sudan.
They are just virtue signalling and/or have bigotry towards a certain ethno-religion.
lol. It’s almost like they are focusing on Gaza. Amazing you are focusing on this to distract from Gaza
Agree...HYPOCRICY..They pay scant attention to any conflict if it doesn't involve ISRAEL.Right now the WORST HUMANITARIAN crisis WORLDWIDE ( that includes gaza) is in SUDAN ACCORDING to UNICEF there are reports of r@ pe of infants..but no one seems to care. They only care about the darlings of the media..and AID agencies viz Palestine
I agree. Even though I have relatives in Gaza. We need awareness for all.
How much have you donated to the cause?
Those sweet kids at the end of the video... hope they can safely go home one day ❤
This is the best news channel it’s doesn’t just steal videos from the web it’s actually records it own
Prayer to Sudan 🇸🇩
💔
Yes, no more USAID
😢😢😢
Thanks for the informative documentary
Thank you
its not forgotten its just a perpetual conflict, you solve a problem another 3 problems shows up
Very sad 😢 And it was the same civilians rebelliously protests against the Albashir administration bcoz of cost of flour and bread given their internal and external enemies chance and opportunity to destroy their country, while they are not aware that cost of commodities is a global problem not Sudan alone. May God Almighty bring back peace in Sudan Ameen
I am police officer these journalist are very brave showing these terrible situation in south sudan. Congratulations!
It's north sudan ok
Stop fooling ppl
I feel your pain, but those tears need to turn to rage and defiance. That your land and no outside intervention is going to help you make that so.
No water or electricity but a charged cell phone
My heart breaks for them
Thank you for sharing Truth 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Pray for Sudan ❤ 🙏🏽
This will continue as it always has
😢
