I definitely do not tip for bad service. It's VERY rare for that to happen, and I am not talking about slow service (which happens and may not be the server's fault), but when it does, NO TIP FROM ME.
It's funny to say when Europeans talk about our food and our food sizes. They complain, but when they come to America on vacation or holiday. The first thing they want to do is eat fast food and all that other stuff and enjoy the large portions and the free refills. I have heard some say they come just for the food.....
List of random ass services we tip for: Tatoo artists, furniture delivery/assembly, barbers/stylists, pet grooming, pet sitting, babysitting, nail techs & facials, maassages, golf caddy, valet drivers, car detailing, casino dealers, boat rides (when they take you fishing), yard work, gym trainers or any sort of instrucor/tutor...
It’s pretty difficult to get really bad service here in the states because they know that they are working-off tips. But if you do, yeah, I’ve definitely left way less money or no tip at all before when something like that happened.
3:44 Europeans are taller than Americans on average, but thinner. 9:22 that's not correct, in Germany you can study for free even as a foreigner, regardless of which country you're from. But in Sweden foreign students are charged tuition fees. 11:05 In Germany we also tip the barber or the food delivery person, but since the minimum wage was increased significantly, this has decreased. 11:54 no, not the Brits, they are considered stingy and cheap holidaymakers. Well, when you consider that Brits earn on average $10,000 less than e.g. Germans or Swedes, you can't blame the Brits for not tipping.
Tap water is free in the US. We pay for bottled water. But when you are in a restaurant in the US and ask for water, they will assume that you want tap water with ice, whereas in Europe they assume that you want bottled water. We like to tip when we get good service, but only certain services. I agree, it's weird and there doesn't seem to be a particular reason why we tip for some services vs others. There is probably a unique reason for each as to why we tip the professions that we do. The most common is waiters/waitresses - because they get paid less than minimum wage and rely on tips to survive. I could understand barbers and hair-dressers as well because a lot of them are simply renting a booth to work out of in many of those shops and only a portion of what you pay actually goes to the person who fixed your hair. But the reasons for some of the other professions that we tip are unknown to me. I also don't know why we tip a cashier at a casino but not the cook preparing your food. I guess it's just evolved over time so that Americans know who they are supposed to tip and who they aren't. Everywhere you go now though there seems to always be a tip line on the bill, and almost all convenience stores and fast serve restaurants have tip jars on their counters. I don't tip any of those people, but thinking about it I'm not sure why they are any less deserving than the taxi driver, for instance. I was just brought up to know who to tip and who not to tip, and other than a handful of them, I have no idea why I'm giving them a tip and not other people who also provide a service. I think we need to go back to just tipping waiters and waitresses, since they are the only ones making less than minimum wage, because it's just getting too confusing.
This guy was funny but accurate about half the time about United States. For instance I live near Seattle WA and they have an amazing transportation system; I know, I rode it for over ten years. We now have a beautiful light rail system and all kinds of shared transit. We have water taxis and free transportation for the elderly. It does vary from city to city but every city that I've been to in US has some sort of transit system. The problem is people are inpatient and don't like to wait for a ride. But he made me laugh out loud about having ruins in the US like Detroit and other problem areas; too funny!
If you get really bad service at the restaurants in America, ask to speak to the manager or owner of the restaurant and explain why you are not tipping. The owner/manager will then deal with the situation. My friend owns a restaurant and he told me to always ask for the person in charge at any restaurant.
In the USA tap water with ice is free in sit down restaurants. Fast food places will charge for tap water because they provide the cup. Bottled water is always a charge. Tipping is common. Waiters and waitresses are not paid minimum wage. They are usually paid very little. They make the majority of their income is through tips. Most public areas, buildings are No Smoking areas.
This, came to say this exactly. Worked in a restaurant for many years, if a customer left no tip, half of the servers would think they are just cheap and wouldn't realize it was their service. When you leave the penny as your tip, THEY KNOW THEY FUCKED UP
I am an old American and tipping used to be 10% only at sit down restaurants. TIPS is an acronym it means "to ensure prompt service" so people that you were going to see again should be tipped you don't have to tip if you're on vacation. I was a professional Alpaca shearer, and people would often tip me and my crew. Americans will tip for good service and people who do a great job and they think you don't get paid enough for it.

I think certain Americans talk about public transportation differently. In America many people drive and many don’t. Some look down on public transportation. So they have a bias toward it. There are other groups of people that don’t own cars and depend heavily on public transportation in America. They tend to be not as bias. The snobby American that drives mostly seems willing to use public transport in Europe. But,They look down on it in America. You heard what he said about the NY subway. I know it was a joke but that’s really the attitude from certain Americans toward our public transportation.
These days everybody is using those new card readers that "suggest" a tip and it takes real courage to hit the "no tip" alternative. Everybody hates those machines but they are now everywhere. Every purchase is becoming a guilt trip. It's one more reason to buy everything you can online. But you have to face up to the guilt for most services, even those that are already well-compensated (tipping your auto mechanic??? How about your surgeon??? Not yet but it's inevitable).
Water at American restaurants is not tap water, but bottled water poured into a large glass with ice. Even tough American tap water is fine to drink in most states, I believe it is illegal to serve tap water to customers. Either way water is always free. Another thing I must point out to Europeans when it comes to water: do no say STILL water because we call water just water. The only other water besides water is sparkling water. We sell it in the US and some people drink it, but 99% of us do not drink it. Americans who drink sparkling water are trying to look important and educated in the opinion of the rest of America. Sparkling water is not free.
> it is illegal to serve tap water to customers This is a myth, you can serve tap water to customers. Any restaurant I've been at, the servers just get water from the soda machine

I don't tip my barber because he's the owner of the shop. If an employee cuts my hair, then I tip. I don't tip the bartender at the pub because she's the owner, but on busy days, she'll hire a couple gals, so I tip them.
Yeah and, in some places in Europe, ALL the public water is safe to drink. Including water fountains! In the US there’s only drinking fountains (which are pretty sketchy) or hose water or tap water or bottled water or well water. You cannot drink the water in water fountains, because they put colors and chlorine in it. Some European restaurants do not give you free tap water. You have to pay for water.

Same in India, we use KM for long distances but use Feet and inches for human height.
do you have toilets? Asking for a friend.
This guy just has to do stand-up comedy in the evenings. I checked the original video and it doesn't give his name.
Yes, Thurston, you absolutely pay (a lot!) for bottled water over here. And many, many studies tell us it's no healthier than what comes out of the tap though I personally think that varies by location and water source.
He has great hair and skin, btw
Hate smoking indoors esp! My lungs arent the best so im glad indoor smoking is banned!
My insult tip is 2 cents!
These days everybody is using those new card readers that "suggest" a tip and it takes real courage to hit the
"no tip" alternative.
Fun fact: Salt water freezes at 28.4 F.
If you have a terrible waiter or waitress, you simply don't tip, or you can leave a small tip.
Re public transportation, I guess he's never been to Southeastern PA.
Sparkling water is not free.
> it is illegal to serve tap water to customers
This is a myth, you can serve tap water to customers. Any restaurant I've been at, the servers just get water from the soda machine
It’s actually very common for people to smoke here not exactly cigarettes but a lot of vapes and weed and I mean a lot it’s gotten so bad kids between 12-15 is the “new” starting age people start vaping smoking it’s pretty sad
That was the starting age for weed and cigarettes for many when I was young, and I am in my sixties now.
BRUH REAL. I have 2 14yr old friends and theyre already vape addicts bro:/
I wont tip in restaurants! I wont tip and honor its horrific history! Tipping is exploitive its not my problem if wait staff allow themselves to be exploited!
Enjoyed this one. Peace
We do have one dollar coins. They are just not used much..yeah tipping culture is out of control.. I don't tip half those people
You're using a social media that's 100% American.
I thought they just put out a few $1 coins out of some woke impulse to have a coin with a woman (Susan B. Anthony, Sacagawea) on it. People were hoarding every one I've ever seen as a curiosity. He's right that if you tried to pay for something with it, the clerk would not have a clue what to do with it since cash register drawers don't have a place for them.
Great Catch thurston. I hate spellcheck
Mind the gap signs
I’m about halfway through the video but health care is a huge one….(lmao he touched on it as I was typing)
If you actually did the numbers....health care is cheaper in America than Europe. What YOu always forget is Europeans pay 17% of their income to the NHS..that is above the already high Federal tax they pay. AND the NHS tax goes UP ever year while they also CUT benefits. SOOO if you are wealthy in Europe you will buy a Health Insurance policy...jst like we do. hmmmm...nope, I like OUR system better
I went to school for hair, yea unless you aren’t working out of a salon or working for a very high end one you’re really looking forward to that tip to get by just like if you’re a waiter. America isn’t known for paying any kind of employee well unless high probability of death is involved, it’s sad but true
I get paid just fine, and I sit on my butt at a desk
I don't tip my barber because he's the owner of the shop. If an employee cuts my hair, then I tip. I don't tip the bartender at the pub because she's the owner, but on busy days, she'll hire a couple gals, so I tip them.
It's so obvious you don't tip your barber.
8:34 HEY! Baltimore isn’t a ruin. Just West Baltimore is a ruin
From what I read, it's Roland Park and surrounding areas isolated within the ruin. (JHU grad 1967)
Aint $ issue its just Qe have Diversely populated AREAS.
If we had universal healthcare and a few gun laws, we could be a contender, but no, we are not better. We do have a lot of space. Lots of beautiful areas, too. Its my home.
you gotta travel to the US and do a whole vlog series one day man
Nope. If the service is awful npo tip.
No toilet paper in many places in Europe. Also no way to dry your hands unless you want to pay for a “moist towelette”. Also very few public restrooms
In the USA, where I live, EVERYONE smokes..but out west in like, California, Oregon and Washington, and Colorado too, smoking is actually banned in most public places, but on the east coast, EVERYONE smokes.
But,Have you been to Europe?! There’s smoking and then there’s smoking. It’s heavy there. It’s different and they smoke in places in America you can’t smoke. I live in PA and a lot of people smoke but no comparison.
Wtf? Smoking is banned in buildings in Oregon but you can smoke in public! You can't smoke at a venue i.e outdoor concerts or rallies etc. But you can smoke walking down the street or at a lake, river, coast,mt's
Come to LIthuania roads are wide cars are big fuel is kind of a little expensive. There are more cars than people and shit ton of people use public transport and people who dont drive are being looked like crazy and don't even exist to those who are always in a hurry . Certain part of cities with never ending traffic. Every murican video is the same about the continent and what they say about Europe are few counties star the list mfo UK, France, Italy, Switzerland and handful more in a continent that has around 50 countries. No one in my country goes shooping for bread in the morning or goes to deli what even is that. Every city thinks only of them self says fuck you if live in rival city. Everywhere you go ay direction there eather shooping center or fast food joins i live in an are of 4km2 and the are over 20 shooping centers and fucking 70k people. i visited London one time and the road are so tiny if wasn't i would believe it was a biking path instead of a road. Go either to urban or rural parts you'll see Fucking Dodge rams Ford 150s and Silverados. Short rant.
We tip just about anyone that provides us with a service I had a mobile mechanic come and fix my car since it didn’t move so I couldn’t take it to the shop but I tipped him an extra 20$ because he was efficient friendly and was very well spoken
A few things he said that are incorrect. Why do these vloggers never do their homework. The US govt does NOT take 30% of your pay..its more like 15% for the average middle class person. #2 Tipping is NOT 20%....its 15% or less. #3. Europeans NEED public transportation because their roads are so bad for cars, In the US we don't NEED public transportation because using your car is cheaper and quick. Has any American actually seen what Public transportation costs in Europe? It will shock you.
Tipping is 20%, you’re just cheap & should just get food to go.
Yeah most ppls tax is like 15% or so... not 30 lmao
@@lovesgucci1 its 15% in my city. (we are a non lib city)
Yeah. I get taxed at 22%. I lose about a third of my check to taxes, health insurance premiums, social security, and Medicare combined.
@@DavidZinselmeierTurn off the news and come up for air.
If the service is bad, you still have to tip at least %10. Unless you know you’re never going to eat there again. Then you don’t have to tip at all, but you do have to pay for your meal.
I was a bartender at a couple of night clubs throughout college. I am a very generous tipper but there has been a couple of occasions I didn’t leave anything. I’m an easygoing person to deal with but if the waiter is ignoring our table or ignorant, I won’t tip & probably not return.
Nah, if service is bad, I'll leave a penny to show what I think. They may think you just forgot if you leave a tip if you leave nothing.
Even if they didn’t do the best job serving you, they still deserve to survive. If no one tipped them, then they wouldn’t get paid anything for that day.
@@seagantaylor7470 The 2 occasions where I didn’t leave a tip was extreme circumstances & believe me, they’re lucky all they got was no tip & not punched
@@briankirchhoefer What would be your reasons for leaving a penny?

Stay in Europe buddy 😢
Bigger and more unified Multiethnic works here but not multicultural.
Stop picking your nose on camera and do some research dude. Really poor video and worse reaction from a guy who clearly don’t get out much.
Sooo why is Trump in the thumb nail? Maybe next time use the flag or eagle to represent the USA. Those national symbols are not divisive like politicians… 🇺🇸🦅
