As someone who has a daughter of there will agree with me for what I'm about to say; the day my beautiful daughter arrived all.sorts of things are in your mind. I can honestly say she (and her second big brother) are a dead ringer of drop dead gorgeous version of me . this is the first thing you say to her will ALWAYS be etched in your.mind for life these are the first words I said to my daughter: hi my name is mommy I'll be your sever for the next 18yrs" (bear in mind I was still feeling the anesthetic from my csection) this mom is unbelievably a jealous monster there no reason to punish your daughter because she's more beautiful then you you should take it as a compliment and be proud that your genes created something magnificent. So thanks fot making the rest of us moms look like monsters

There were so many moments in this series where it was infuriating, especially when a lot of the characters loved blaming Etsys for things beyond her control

Just FYI, everything that is in this movie is from a non-orthodox perspective making up tired stereotypes. The vast majority of Ultra Orthodox people are not this way and have access to many things but choose not to engage them. Not out of some sort of paranoid irrational fear but because they can get along just fine without it.
From an Orthodox perspective, this is cringe.

Thanks for the recap. I never saw this show, and now I don't have to. 😊
It kinda demonizes her heritage, not sure I would appreciate this if I was an Orthodox Jew, a bit too awful

I remember watching it's 1st ep. on Netflix. After Esty arrived to Berlin the show lost reality. The rapid change of Esty without any doubts or hesitation was so unreal for sy, who was raised in a strict, religious environment and btw married. Nothing shown of her inner struggles and moral dilemmas what supposed to occur in this situation but there was a propagandistic picture of a loose, immoral lifestyle, showing it like the source of infinite happiness and love.
Then I didn't waste more time on this.
However, thanks for recapping it, at least I know how it has ended.

"but there was a propagandistic picture of a loose, immoral lifestyle, showing it like the source of infinite happiness and love."
And Where are do you see that portrayed exactly? Are you for real?
"moral dilemmas what supposed to occur in this situation" First of all... supposed? Can people not have individual reactions to their own life experiences? Especially since the whole 1st part of the show was exactly her dealing with the dilemma leaving, and then subsequently the dilemma of staying in berlin, what to do with her pregnancy, whether to reconcile with her mother, which customs she grew up with to abandon, which to keep, basically the dilemma of what her identity is now that she is no longer part of or defined by that insular community.
You obviously did watch much or closely.

Talented people have a spark in their heart. Not realistic? Quite clearly music was her purpose. She doubted herself many times. But music was part of her. It gave her courage and allowed her to be herself.

If you consider her singing and dancing at a club as a “loose and immoral lifestyle” I think you’re the one with the problem, not the show. I can only imagine how screwed up your beliefs must be
