Had my 162 TSI R-Line delivered last week with sunroof and sound and vision options and the nightshade blue colour. What a fantastic car to drive, it's handling, road manners and cornering are superb, it just makes driving enjoyable.
At first I was a little bit upset that Kevin Rudd's lovechild didn't do this review. Tom has a cult following in our household and we always look forward to his reviews. But, the new bloke did a really good job. A really good job! Excellent review of the new Tiguan! Had me engaged.
Thank you for mentioning the after sale cost as well ! Service pricing plan and insurance. You guys are doing a better job than other reviewers by providing this additional info. Cheers .
easy to overcome the slightly soft performance in Normal mode. Have someone with OBD11 use the app to adjust throttle settings to Audi profile. Makes a small but noticeable change - better response
Yeah for example for Tiguan has digital cockpit and self parking standard. The Tiguan has the option for a panoramic roof unlike any Mazda which is a standard sunroof.
Good review. What an irony that Tiguan has wireless carplay across the range but no wireless charging whereas the top spec Santefe & Sorento has the opposite!
I find the boot space figures given by Volkswagen to be quite deceptive. It's 615L with the second row as far forward as they can go, and who is going to travel like that all the time? With the seats in the normal position, it has the smallest boot in its segment. They report the Passat Wagon as 650L, and just using the eye test you can see that the two boot spaces aren't remotely comparable.
@@kensouza9239 It's deceptive because a figure for "seats in the normal position" is not provided alongside it, in order to compare with other cars. The figure is used by people for comparative purposes, and 615L massively overstates the usable cargo room if you're also using the rear seats. If you were to compare it to an X3 (just for an example) with a stated 550L capacity, you might think it was bigger, and I've seen people make that assumption on car forums. The X3 boot is far bigger and much more usable. If any marketing material or review ever said "you get 615L but you have to heavily compromise rear leg room to get that figure" then fine. It doesn't though. It gives you a number that does not compare to numbers that most other manufacturers provide. Intentionally. To make you think that maybe the boot is bigger than it is, because it's really quite a small boot.
@@Fredescu you are clearly exaggerating. One because VW themselves says that the given volume is when the seats are in forward position. Second buyers would still see the car in person at the dealership before paying for it. Third I have seen the boot of this car personally with the seats in normal position and the boot size never felt of a concern that I felt it as small. Fourth I haven’t seen any single review here where the seat is in normal position and the reviewer complaining about it.
except that Volkswagen gives the size with the seats in the back position normally, not just the seats pushed to the front, infact i rarely seen the number with the seats to the front
I've had mine for about two weeks now. It' faster than I thought it would be in sports mode. But damn I love how this car moves. usb type C only was a bit annoying. And the infotainment system is a bit buggy sometimes the screen switches off by itself. Other than that I actually like the haptic controls a lot
Excellent informative review that covered all the relevant bits important to those who enjoy driving. Yes agreed, far too much chrome on a sports model. The dealer I spoke to was way ahead of me when I made a comment on all the glitter, offered to vinyl wrap for somewhere under $2k. Ouch.
Not sure if you guys have reviewed the 2020...it's exactly the same apart from some cosmetic changes and the head and tail lights, wheels and steering wheel. The sound and vision package completes the car perfectly in the 2020. And the sunroof also adds that premium touch. The safety features are the same too. Adaptive lane assist, emergency braking, etc...I don't believe that's new.
It’s the height. Perfectly matches the height of centre armrest. In Mazda CX-5 height difference is a dogs breakfast. A problem they solved in the CX30.
maybe, the prices changed in the last three weeks or something but those prices you've listed appear to be way off. e.g. 147 TDI R-Line is more like $65,000
Hi all, a question to curent owners of Volkswagen. Does volkswagen service center comes up with any surprising maintenence or parts cost? Within the firs 5 years? Other than the 5year service plan cost? Thanks
Can you comment on matters such as reliability and the cost of repairs and parts. A friend just had his brake pads and rotors changed on a Touareg at a cost of $3000
That's an absolute ripoff. They don't cost that much. Front discs set (Bosch) would cost around $350, rear discs set (Bosch) would be around $300. Front and rear set of pads (Bosch) would be around $250. That's a total of around $900. Whoever charges around $2100 for labour can fuck off.
German luxury brands like Mercedes, BMW, Audi, and Porsche dealers charge even more for parts, labour, and maintenance service than VW dealers. Tbh, the dealers make most of profits from their their financing, parts, and service departments than from selling new cars.
Other countries have the black trim option rather than chrome. Looks way better. Spec up with a silver metallic paint should at least dilute those excessive chrome trim in particular those 4 fake rear a*holes. Or wait for the Tiguan R.
It depends on your preferences. If you prefer an AWD Tiguan, the sweet spot is the one he test drives in this video which is the 162 KW 4- Cylinder Petrol Tiguan R-Line.
I am a little staggered VW say the boot is 615L. When I had a look it in the flesh like a small boot. Are their figures to the roof line not the seat top line?

Is this guy trying to put this car down. Half of all the features he preempts it with “unfortunately you don’t get blah blah like in the Golf R line……”
Fake review. Seen the car in the flesh, can't touch one for anything less than $65,000, dealership laughed when I showed them the $53,000 so called list price. Yeah right, boot space 615L, it's so much smaller than that. Get your act together Chasing Cars, don't be affraid to be honest and unbiased with OEM facts and statistics, especially with a company like VW who appear to have a history of twisting facts and figures. Your 65k gets you a fully optioned, premium paint, sound and vision with sunroof car including on roads. A touch over 60k if you don't tick the options boxes. How many do you want??

How are you liking blue color after 3 months? I’m confused between black and blue. I’ve got Golf 7 tdi in black so wanted to go for another color.
did you consider 147 TDI ? That is equally fun, got more torque and cost effective to run
how are you liking the car after 2 years?
So glad/happy that the infotainment system is not popping out of the dashboard like so many are doing!!

Love your reviews Ponch!
I love the look of that colour in the sun, but looks quite dark in the shade?
It’s a great vehicle but I prefer my 2.0 TDI model. Love the review mate. Greetings from South Africa!

Just ordered one in the same colour as your review. Ticks all the boxes for me.
I don't understand how VW doesn't have ventilated seats as standard?? I mean I can have them in a CX-5 Akera, but not a R Line Tiguan...
