He was the perfect villain, and the perfect hero. What he did will never be duplicated and as a fan of college football, you cant help but feel saddened that we are seeing a door close on the greatest coach to ever do it. My heart goes put to you Bama fans, but everybody needs to realize how lucky we were being able to live through that run he put together. Time for him to go enjoy his golden years with Mrs. Terry.

@TVsGringoStarr if you're a Bama fan or an SEC fan then I see your point, but from every other college program, for their fans, he was just because of how good he was. We played him twice and won one and lost one.

I wouldn't say "never be duplicated"...records are made to be broken. Plenty of young talented HCs out there now. Eventually, Saban's numbers will be matched or topped. Might not be in our lifetime, but it will happen.

After the loss to Michigan, Mrs Terry said she asked Nick if he wanted to watch the other game and he said no. After that I had a feeling he may retire.
The man is tired and I can see it in his eyes.
I've been a fan of Bama since the Gene Stallings era so Ive lived through the ups and downs. I know we'll never have that kind of success again. I just want to say thank you to the Saban's for being amazing people and doing the state of Alabama so proud. We'll never forget you.
    Roll Tide!

Graduated from Alabama in 1974whenBear Bryant was coaching. There were lean times after the Bear until Nick Saban took over. Nick Saban helped me to indoctrinate my grandkids into Alabama football and we had so much fun on Saturdays for years. Thank you, Coach Saban. Your talent and hard work and commitment made a HUGE difference in the lives of so many people in a positive way. Best wishes to you and your family. The GOAT, indeed.

I dont think it has anything to do with competition. It is likely because he is like 72 and wants to spend time with his family before dies and not have the stress of coaching a college football team.

    Bama fan here!
I appreciate EVERYTHING Nick Saban has done for Alabama! He has been a HELL OF A COACH!!! Saban has proved why he is a great coach. What he and Mrs. Terri has done for charities! Nick’s kids, Children’s of Alabama, etc. To see him not be on the sideline is going to be hard! THANK YOU NICK FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE!
Everyone is treating it like a family death. He is still alive, but he is not coaching.
ROLL TIDE & THANK YOU NICK SABAN!!!

51 yr old life long Bama fan here. What a ride it has been, Saban is no doubt the GOAT. Sad to say that no matter who gets hired as the next coach the fans will crucify them the first time the don't win 11 games per season. We witnessed this right after the late Bear Bryant retired in 1983. The first three coaches were crucified by the fans. It won't be the same because no one does or will do it better than Saban. The only one that will and already is even coming close to doing it is Kirby. All things must come to an end sooner or later. I thank coach Saban for restoring the Alabama standard, and leaving us better than he found us. Thanks for the memories, the passion you restored. Enjoy your retirement, you earned it coach( The Goat)

Absolutely love/hate relationship with Saban. The GOAT. We were blessed to witness it even if it meant watching our team get crushed by him and having our hearts broken over and over and over again. Enjoy your golden years. Honestly, this is the best year for such a transition. No one could ever fill his shoes, but with the changes to the SEC and the 12 team playoff, you don't have to. You can try to make your own shoes. Go Dawgs.

I respected the hell out of him I hated to losing to him but I really hate to see greatness step away because it was amazing to see.

I remember when Bear Bryant retired. Same kind of deflated feeling. You got to move on eventually. We knew this day would come someday. Time to face the music. It was a GREAT run.
I never thought I see a coach that would surpass Bear Bryant. Coach Bryant won 5 AP titles. Came within a combined total of 7 points of winning 3 more AP titles and have 3 more undefeated untied seasons. Saban passed that. Amazing. Well done Coach Saban.
