    YES! Thank you for making this video. Unfortunately, because I am West African and grew up in the Pentecostal church, Joel Osteen is rather popular among Charismatics. However, when I tried telling my family that basically all Osteen does is never preaching on sin, holiness, etc I was shut down. Thankfully, I will for sure be bookmarking this video to hopefully show to my family sometime in the near future since it is such a CLEAR and straightforward video to grasp. Thanks again! :)

      StylinSis3189 it really depends. "Charismatic" is a very very broad term. It's more broad than "Evangelical" and almost as broad as "Christian". I think you mean Word of Faith Charismatics

      It's so interesting to see how diverse even Pentecostals can be cuz the Romanian Pentecostal community in the U.S. shuns Osteen. We are very selective of who we quote and who we listen to.

    • @louisaccardi6808
      @louisaccardi6808 6 лет назад +3

      Sharon Murza: Yes that's an interesting point you made. Here's the difference between the two. The difference is that classic Pentecostals study their Bibles and are familiar with basic Bible doctrines, whereas, Charismatics that live on emotions and whatever sounds new. They also don't study their Bibles and lack basic knowledge about Bible doctrine and can easily accept the watered down, milk toast false gospel that Joel Osteen peddles.

      What sin do you think Osteen should be preaching about? Rape? Murder? Fornication? Adultery? Envy? Jealousy? Lusting? Over eating? Covetousness? Revilers? Extortion? Theft?

      I was thinking that when Osteen was saying "I am strong." In Christ. "I am prosperous" in Christ. Osteen is missing the "in Christ." in each of those things. Ultimately I am nothing if I am not in Christ.

      @The Truth yeah man, we're a little sect offshot from Judaism who believe God was nailed to a cross and died then ressurected after 3 days and if you believe in Him you can have your sins forgiven and have His Spirit live in you which in turn helps you become a better person. Bonus points, we get eternal life too!! Best damn cult out there!!!

    • @legoqueen2445
      @legoqueen2445 4 года назад

      @The Truth not sure what your trying to provoke with your comments, but I've become a much better person since I became a Christian than what I was when I didn't believe. So if you want to call it a cult, that's fine. If you want to make bizarre comments about accountability, that's fine. Do what ever you like. I know what I used to be like and I know the person I've become in Christ, and I'm at peace with that change in me. Be blessed The Truth. There's so many beautiful, amazing and wonderful things that can happen in life, even if you never join our cult I hope you find something akin to the joy, peace and love I have found.

    I sat under Keith Kraft of Elevate Life Church, who partnered with Joel in 2010 while constructing his cathedral in Frisco Tx. I was still a babe in the faith and didn't know anything about theology or sound doctrine. Long story short, I was told to tithe and constantly heard prophecies by Keith to the congregation of coming prosperity. That tithing led me to a car repossession, and ultimately unable to return to the church. Long story short, sometimes the lack of prosperity is a blessing.

    Over ten years ago my church pianist asked me why I couldn't preach like Osteen. I thought she was kidding, but she was dead serious. I said, "Because I can't even stand to look at him." Then I realized she was serious. My church would be a lot bigger if I preached like him, but would it really be a church?

      Christians dont need churches nor preachers period! Only the lazy Christians go to churches to hear preachers regurgitate the bible to them.
      Christians need to pick up the bible and study it for themselves.
      The Holy Spirit is our greatest teacher but people wont turn to God when studying the bible. They dont pray for Wisdom and for understanding.

      I was about to post that, and I scroll down and what is the first comment? This. When Osteen started with his "I am" this and "I am" that, I just cringed... no no NO. God is the "I Am". It's almost as if Osteen is trying to put himself in God's shoes which is a lot of false prophets do.
      EDIT: Oi. Watched a few more minutes, and oi. Speaking words to affect reality, to create... yes.. that's... God's power. That's not something that *we* do. That's 100% pure blasphemy for Osteen to say that *we* can speak words and they become reality. God spoke the universe into existence, God's Words change reality. We are not God and I'd have to say that's the biggest blasphemy ever, or one of them, to even imply that men can do the same.

      @@Dhalin What are you on about? I admit that Osteen has questionable theology but this statement shows how little bible knowledge you have.
      Jesus made it clear that we have power and authority in his name to claim powerful things (may it be good or bad so we ought to say good things)
      So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”
      Matthew 21:21‭-‬22
      This may only be blasphemous when you try to do these things by your own might but under the name and authority of Jesus, we receive huge power. Educate yourself more on the Word so you dont sound ignorant. God bless

    • @Dhalin
      @Dhalin 4 года назад +6

      @@JohnDoe-gw6ww There's one problem here. Osteen is teaching that *YOU* are the one doing these things just by your own power of your own voice. What Christ is talking about in the Bible is undying Faith in *GOD* that *GOD* will do these things if you ask Him to. When Christ says that one who has enough Faith can say to a mountain 'be removed and cast into the sea' it's not the believer's power that accomplishes this, but rather God Himself that would lift the mountain and throw it into the sea.
      Osteen says no such thing about God, and in fact, he doesn't mention God at all in his entire sermon other than the intro and the outro. The rest of it is telling you to worship yourself because you're so awesome if you keep telling yourself that. Osteen is telling you to call yourself "I am" rather than letting God by the "I am" and you asking God humbly and faithfully to do things for you. Christ taught that if you have undying Faith _in God,_ you can ask Him and He will answer.
      Meanwhile, Osteen is telling you to be the exact opposite of humble, Osteen is actually pushing narcissism and self-absorbency. Look yourself in the mirror and go "I am awesome" ... no, we are not awesome. God Is. Everything we have, is thanks to God. Where in Osteen's sermon did Osteen ever say that we should get on our knees before God and thank Him for everything we have?

    The truth that’ll never be making money on television:
    I am not enough. I look in the mirror and I know somethings wrong. Ive taken an inventory of everything inside me and I find so many mistakes. I find sin in my heart and a hole that no wealth, addiction, or person can satisfy. Because of this I need Jesus Christ. He is enough and he is perfect. He overflows the hole inside me and he makes me righteous and perfect in God’s eyes because of his shed blood. But me? No, no, no the hard truth is I am nothing and not enough, but with Jesus I have the hope of being in a world where there is no sin and brokenness. In this world, we have to suffer and sacrifice and die daily to avoid the evil path of sin. There is nothing I can do to be enough or to do right, except accept Jesus and let him change my heart inside. The truth is the world is still going to be broken and so are we until we meet our creator.

      And it seems funny that so many Americans embrace it, since the average American consumes twice as much as we do in my country New Zealand, and yet believers there still are not content. Godliness with contentment is great gain.

    • @domsdomsdomsdoms
      @domsdomsdomsdoms 6 лет назад +1

      Michael NewZealand it’s also heart-breaking. Jesus Himself expressed grief on this issue Mt 23:27.. but these are not believers of Christ because the sheep know His voice. these are believers of joel osteen and other proponents of prosperity preaching which the bible speaks of as well.
      “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3, NASB)
      but it’s not like they are mere victims of a false preacher. paul washer was right when he said this is also God’s judgement for choosing for themselves such preachers instead of the truth. on our part we can only mourn for this tragedy, pray for God’s mercy, and preach the true gospel in love.. hoping such prosperity teaching will not corrupt the gospel in new zealand brother! Godliness with contentment is great gain indeed!

    • @michaelnewzealand1888
      @michaelnewzealand1888 6 лет назад

      Thanks Miguel for your reply. Sadly the prosperity gospel has spread to so many churches and believers, not always in it's fullest form but subetly sometimes too - not just in NZ but everywhere. And I even know many born again believers who buy into it as least partially. It's because if someone asks you the question "Does God want you to be sick or well?" or "Does God want you to be rich or poor?" most people will say well and rich and hence logically the prosperity gospel seems to follow. And technically when the Lord establishes his kingdom fully in righteousness then there will be no sickness or death, but until then "in this world you will have trouble, but take heart I have overcome the world". If believers would think about the persecuted church in parts of the world and ask how the prosperity gospel applies to them, then I think they could see better to reject it. It is interesting though that you mention Paul Washer in contrast to Joel Osteen. Recently Paul himself said that the Lord rebuked him through listeing to Joel Osteen.

    • @domsdomsdomsdoms
      @domsdomsdomsdoms 6 лет назад

      Michael NewZealand yeah such preaching will be really effective in persuading all kinds of people, even dare i say sheep. but amen Jesus has overcome the world and nothing is out of His sovereignty. and yep paul washer did say that the Lord used a false preacher to convict him. not because of the content of joel osteen’s preaching but because joel osteen was still very encouraging..

      Prosperity preachers only use the persecuted when they want them as an excuse to squeeze a new jet out of their followers. Creflo Dollar said that the families of the men beheaded in northern Africa, had called him, saying they "needed him there", and that's why he had to raise money for the newer, faster, slicker jet. And we know that when he got it, he never flew there to minister to any suffering, persecuted Christians. The fact is, persecuted and grieving believers in Jesus would not want him around. The devil makes sure that you feell the cruel, satanic mockery in word faith, when you are suffering because you're a believer in Jesus. The prosperity movement makes it clear that their only solution for any kind of suffering people is to "let them get their own faith!" That's what they'd say while passing by on the other side of the road, from the man who fell among thieves, who was left for dead. The 'Jesus" they promote, is a hard-boiled, compassionless copy of themselves, who is only interested in the high rollers. Everything about it is upside down from true, biblical, gospel Christianity, even the Lord. It also shows itself to be much closer to the occult, to the magic and sorcery of "The Secret"/Law of Attraction, or "When You Wish Upon a Star", than having anything to do with Jesus. That hard-boiled, word faith message doesn't apply to them, when they are trying to get people to buy them that new jet, or when they say a 900-ft "Jesus" told them to tell their followers to give them money to save their namesake hospital, or He would kill the pious preacher. Then, "seed faith" just doesn't seem to cut it (even though a billion dollars is not too many seed faith investments away from a mere $1, paying off at 10-fold or 100-fold). The reason that these people do this, is they are self-reprobated unbelievers, conscienceless charlatans, who have no real faith in Jesus at all, and who get something out of mocking God, and delight to get rich selling their followers a cheap substitute for salvation. Their followers are to blame for listening to these wolves, for preferring the cheap substitute to letting the Lord _really_ save them, but these wolves who exploit their dishonesty, are not real brothers or sisters in Christ. They have no fear of God, because they refuse to heed and believe in Him.

      Being transformed involves renewing the mind, when o first got saved I went along with everybody talking bad about joel but after I really learned alot about what the the bible says I happen to come across one of his sermons and found he is very accurate on the bible and he doesnt even have to stand up there and quote alot of scripture, it's time we not conform to what everybody thinks and take people's (preachers) word for it and look into the bible and find out for ourselves

    Joe teaches us to be kind, generous, forgiving, doing right all the times.
    When he said i am prosperous, i am beautiful, i am healthy, etc... he means that AS JESUS IS ABOVE, SO ARE WE IN THE WORLD.
    We are created in the image of God. We are the righteouness of God in Christ. Jesus already died for our sins. He alread redeemed us. Why do we still want to be called sinners, weak, sick when all our sins are already forgiven, hence we are healed.
    To say that we are sick, poor, weak, sinners is an insult to the finished work of Jesus. Yes, with Jesus, the Holy Spirit within us, we are strong, kind, generous, faithful etc... Jesus died and resurrected to give to us what he had, even His riches. Nothing wrong to be rich to help others. God's children cannot be broke and sick.
    When Joe reminds us all those positive things about I AM, he praises Jesus finished works.
    We are not worms anymore. We sit in Heaven with God and Jesus.
    We have the fruit of the Holy Spirit within us: we are, love, peace, joy, kindness, gentleness, faith, patience, self control etc...
    That is what Joe keeps reminding us at every sermons.
    Please do not call us weak, sick, sinners anymore. Jesus and God already value us and accept us to His family.
    I love Joe.Osteen.

    I would never raise my Bible and "blindly" repeat after any human being before I knew what what going to be said. Classic example of the blind leading the blind. His congregation found what they want and will be rewarded with what this material world can give them, prayerfully some or most will see the true light is Christ Jesus. Never, not once mentioned the one name by which all are saved and reconciled to the Father...Jesus the Christ. Thank you Father, thank you Jesus

    My Bible says “As a man thinks, so is he”. My Bible tells me that I build upon the foundation of Christ. I must build. I must decide to use my talents, my influence, my resources for God’s glory. My Bible says I am fearfully and wonderfully made. It also tells me “in me dwells no good thing”. I am saved by grace but I decide each day to intentionally try to be better for Christ. Joel Osteen’s message lifts me up. Helps me direct my energies. Reminds me of the goodness of God and His many promises and challenges for doing His will in today’s world. I tell my granddaughter every day she is awesome, she is smart, she is cute. What would you think if I told her everyday she is a loser, she is stupid, she is ugly? I’m sowing good seeds into her. What seeds are you sowing and what are you allowing people to sow in your life? Regards Glenn

    “We do not need an awesome God for salvation. . . We simply need to remember that we ourselves are awesome”!!!! WHAT!!!!????. That is literally idolatry and self-righteousness right there!!!. We DO NEED AN AWESOME GOD, Because He shows His awesomeness and love by dying for us because of our sin and our self-righteousness!! Read your bibles people without the influences of these prosperity teachers! We cannot do things to get to by ourselves, God is the reason we get to live in the first place. This motivational session is for non-believers and secular individuals and groups, because Jesus promises hardship, persecution, difficult times ahead for those who believe and share their gospel with those around us, as well as in certain circumstances be willing to die for him. None of this health, wealth and pursuit of happiness. God gives us our joy and our peace. We do not make it for ourselves, if we try we will fail. Read your bibles people. :)

    My paternal grandparents were Christians, but they'd watch people like Reverend Joel Osteen and his ilk on the Trinity Broadcasting Network. I became physically disabled in my early twenties from pelvic floor dysfunction. Untreatable abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and vomiting, Grandfather and Grandmother blamed me for. I wasn't getting better because I resisted the wrongful diagnosis of psychosomatic disorder. My mother and elder brother also thought I was crazy.
    Before Grandfather passed, he and I had a strained relationship. It was only afterward that I saw critiques of the then mysterious Osteen. Let me tell you, I'd have reached through the television screen and garrotted the man if such technology were possible. Reverend Paul Washer once said the "pastor" was God's judgement upon the congregation, as most of them wanted comfortable lives instead of our Lord. I agree. Osteen and Oprah Winfrey were/are examples of Satan's agents.

    One of my former roommates is an Osteen fan. What I see in Osteen's appeal is that he addresses the feelings of the bullied members of society. It's really tough to be bullied and feel like the heal of the world is in your face all the time. Sometimes people do just need to be flatly reminded that "you are beautiful" etc. I believe that is the appeal of his pep rallies. Sadly, he isn't taking people much beyond triage and basic first aid in this spiritual war in which they find themselves. To compete with his approach, someone needs to clearly define the power of God and the things He has done and the things He is doing. Academic scripture study fails to address the need for triage and first aid. Academics are only accessible to people whose wounds are not so serious. It's like, people are in foxholes and they don't need platitudes and introspection, they need ammo and armor. I've been in that position and discovered how lacking academia is on the battlefield. I've never cared for Osteen's fluff-talk but there's a world of confused and ignorant people who look to their feelings to validate truth. A smart preacher will reach these people by emphasizing God's power over all and that we haven't got any. "Jesus" is not a magic word...etc.

      No he isn’t. He is teaching the truth. God says you are my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. God says your youth is renewed like eagles. Stop exalting satan and declaring that everybody is preaching his messages. Satan didn’t say “you shall have what you say” - God did, read Mark 11:23 ““For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.”
      ‭‭Mark‬ ‭11:23‬
      Before you start cursing the preacher, go study the word and speak the word.

      Euge Z Even Jesus prayed 'not my will but Thy will.' Jesus also said "if anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life (have his best life now) will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?" And Paul says to Titus under the inspiration of the Spirit that "the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self controlled, upright and godly lives... Greed for this world is not godly. Grace teaches us to say No to that. Paul said he poured out his life as a drink offering. Paul told the Corinthians that those among them who buy something should live as if it were not theirs to keep, those who use the things of the world as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away. Thanks for listening as I preach the gospel of enduring wealth. Is this what he preaches? Be a Berean!

      Renee Solis Hes just cherry picking versus out of context of their chapter and a whole . Mark 11 23 is a tired and well debunked justification prosperity people use. Jesus didn't promise our best lives now. When these prosperity people get cancer, or fall on hard times. They question their faith and wonder why God didn't give them their healing or worldly riches. Even worse in some of these "churches" the congregation will accuse these people of not having enough faith. How devastating is that. To think if Paul had enough faith he could have removed the thorn right? The apostles died horrible deaths, had bad health, not all rich. They not only had faith but sight. Word faith is heretical garbage that deserves the bin like the rest of new age teaching.

    Who are we as human beings? We truly don't know. For 27 years I was not attached to myself. I was not attached to anyone or anything. I excelled at whatever I wanted to do. I believe God created us, gave all the right abilities to do whatever we want to do with them. At 27 I joined a church, by age 32, I'm asking myself a question. Who am I? Religion got me to start looking at myself through a microscope, am I sinning, what did I do that was bad, to me it was a negative experience. My success rate started to come down. My problems that I could once solve or now a challenge. By the time I hit my 40s, I was like the people in the world. Waking up to who what and where to dislike, and like. Since I have gotten away from religion. My peace has returned, my success has returned and I'm much happier today.
    God created us gave us all the abilities to go into the world to do amazing things. Why would he give us such a strong potential to achieve whatever we want, if we believe we have to ask him for help. Isn't it a oxymoronic practice?

    What's missing in all those statements is this; I am who I am because OF Jesus. That's the truth for every believer, there is nothing wrong with claiming victory but don't forget the Victor, don't leave the true I AM out of it all. Our praise and worship should always be attributed toward Him and only Him, because apart from Him we can do nothing. David said in Psalm 34:1, I will bless the Lord at all times, His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Notice its His praise, not my praise. The core of the gospel is JESUS and Him alone. I am not against 'positive speaking' but if you leave Jesus out of it, then its 'poisonous speaking'.
    People are forgetting that all power comes from Him. He gives us the power, we don't give ourselves it, Jesus always reminded His disciples, in order for you to gain your life you need to replace your old life with me (Him), Matthew 16:25, Matt 10:39 & Luke 17:33, because He is the life. In Him we live, we move and we have our being, Acts 17:28. Its easy to quote bible verses (even the devil can do that), but only the (Holy) Spirit of God references and witnesses about the Son of God (the Word) and the Son (Jesus) witnesses about the Father (God). Because they are one and the same 1 John 5:7. So let's not leave Jesus out of our sermons because He came to save us from our sins not to give us material prosperity alone because He said, your life is not consistent with the abundance of things, Luke 12:15. It's His gospel not ours. Amen.

    I understand the responses of most of the people making comments. In response, I wanted to get a better understanding of the context of the sermon/message/speech of Joel Osteen here. Went to the Lakeland church website. Saw there under the "about" section, that the principles of faith are belief in the Scripture, in the trinity, in salvation through Jesus. Saw the music that points people to Jesus, that elevates His name. I listened to other sermons, in which the message is clearly that God is in control, that we need God and Jesus in our lives, that the answer is Jesus and God in our lives. So I understand the comments about this message - and even the underlying principles - but look, people, at the message of Osteen's church. Look beyond a criticism of this message.

      What parent would not risk life itself to free their child from a murderer, a thief, or kidnapper? The devil is all those & more. He is jealous for our love because He knows that His love is unselfish. He loves for our sake not like the devil who just wants to destroy.

      Stop listening to him, read the Bible, and see how much of a wretch we are, how unholy and unrighteous we are, and then see how amazing the grace of God is. Would you dare tell a cancer patient to just start getting up in the morning and declaring that they are healthy? That's what he is saying. Would you dare to tell the millions of believers who are being jailed, killed, tortured, and ran out of their home by their own family that all they have to do is declare that they have a loving family and it shall be so? That's what he is saying.
      You need to ask yourself, which god are you truly serving? The true God of the Bible doesn't care about your self esteem, your health, your wealth. He cares about making you holy as He is holy. He cares about you sacrificing your life to fulfill the great commission. He cares about your eternal spiritual health instead of this small water droplet compared to the vast universe of eternity.

    You both are wrong. We need to talk positive on ourselves but having Jesus as the centre of our confession and Osteen may not have that but this man is leaving out the confession and do not really understand that we have been healed by the stripes of Jesus and therefore I can say I have been healed by the stripes of Jesus because the truth and fact are two different things.

    You're completely misrepresenting Osteen here. He's not doing a presentation of the gospel. He's teaching principles for successful living. Now, if you want to say he puts too much emphasis on teaching those principles and not enough on the presentation of the gospel you might have a valid point, but don't characterize this message as Joel's concept of the gospel.
    Also, at what point was Oprah a part of this story? Like your critique that Joel didn't mention Jesus, I didn't hear her mentioned once despite the fact that you included her name in the video's title.

    • @hughhorne9139
      @hughhorne9139 6 лет назад +5

      Jew and Greek He said in the beginning of the video that Oprah posted it on her channel and said it changed her life. Sure, he's not claiming to proclaim the Gospel but he isn't teaching biblical principles either. There is very little, if any from what I've seen that will help anyone be successful in life. A successful life being defined as one in which a person seek after God and is becoming more like Christ. Where we are more satisfied with knowing Christ than anything else.

    • @j.chriswatson6847

      So what's the purpose of a sermon? To "teach[] principles for successful living"? Or to preach the word of God?

      @JewandGreek 6 лет назад

      Okay, my bad. I went back and watched the beginning and somehow I missed the Oprah reference. But I stand by my statement that this is not Joel Osteen's presentation of the gospel. I'm pretty sure he understands original sin, justification by faith, judgment, substitutionary atonement and all that. He just doesn't do theology because it's not his style.

    • @danbrown586
      @danbrown586 6 лет назад +2

      If he isn't preaching the word, he's wasting his, and his listeners', time. Although I slightly disagree with Challies' criticism of not mentioning Jesus (you could preach quite reasonably out of Numbers, for example, without mentioning him--although the connections are there, and you as a preacher would do better if you showed them to your congregation), you're attacking this video for something it doesn't say. Challies isn't addressing Osteen's entire work; he's addressing this one sermon--which, _as a sermon_, is truly awful.
      But even beyond not preaching the word, what Osteen is teaching in this "sermon" is directly contrary to the word. "God promises youth, health, wealth, and happiness" simply isn't biblical (and in the case of youth, is nonsensical). Whether this sermon is representative of his larger body of work or not, this sermon itself (which, again, is what Challies is talking about) is strongly opposed to the teaching of the Bible.

    I'm unimpressed by this review of Joel's sermon. What exactly is wrong with saying 'I am fearfully and wonderfully made'??.. Imagine your interpretation of Jesus' suffering on the cross at 8.07, that's also screwed if you don't put it in perspective of the purpose of the cross. And for some guys in the comment that claims to be mature Christians, you should know that God is not interested in gloomy and depressed lives and that's really the purpose of this sermon. He's right when he says you should always keep a thankful and positive attitude not because everything is right, but exactly because of the work of Jesus. Paul sang and prayed in the prison, so because it sounds like what unbelievers would like doesn't make it not the word of God.

      He has a point there, but it still doesn't mean that Joel has his message twisted. Do you know, there's no possible way of feeling good or confessing right without God in the picture. My point is, its because God is in the picture, you can expect good to happen to you. There's no room for that practically in the world. Besides, its always been Joel's style of preaching and that's how his sermons comeout. The purpose of the cross is still intact.

      I used to listen to Joel, he would ascribe to one verse and base his sermon off of that one verse. Joel is a Quasi-Pantheist. And Tim Challies is 100% correct in his assessment of Joel Osteen. Find in God's word where God is "not interested in gloomy and depressed lives and that's really the purpose of Joel Olsteen's sermons. Joel Osteen sermons are NOT based on the word of God, Joel Osteen's sermons are based on self and it is equally dangerous why? Because he is taking the focus off God and His Word and replacing it with "Self". Sure Joel is a positive and encouraging speaking (Thats what he could have been, cause he is not a preacher of Gods word thats for sure)but his kind of encouragement is damning to the one who needs to hear God's Word and the Gospel so that the people can come to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Even at the end where he gives a pithy sinners prayer is disgraceful with not even a hint of understanding of sin, God's wrath, and so on. So, Tim Challies is 100% correct. As I said, I used to listen to Joel Osteen, but stopped because his sermons were and stll are based on self, positive confession, and prosperity all of which are nowhere and I mean nowhere found in scripture. Need a hint? Look at all our Brothers and Sisters in Christ who were persecuted and kil l ed for following Jesus Christ and Christians today who are being persecuted still today for the sake of Christ. Let's see if Joel can with the use of Scripture teach a sermon about persecution in the church. You know what will happen? His church would be empty.
