I think Apple knows what they're doing and is brilliant when it comes to marketing. If the iPad Air had 120hz, definitely more people would choose the Air - they just know how to divide the market and users often buy something they don't really need. Two weeks ago I had a battle of thoughts whether or not to buy a new iPad. I mainly consume media and draw on it, they threw the bait of the new Pencil Pro at me - but on reflection, I decided not yet, I have an iPad on M2 that is enough for everything I need. Kudos to you for doing everything like a thorough technician, pros, cons, needs, requirements :)

I also chose the M2 iPad Air over the older pro’s and newest M4. The M4 is way more power then what i need as i already have a Mac book air M2 but i use it as my main computer and it is connected to a 35 in curved monitor . So i use the iPad to just watch videos and surf the web so didn’t need anything to powerful but i did want the bigger screen. • @anjanagowtham
      @anjanagowtham  6 месяцев назад +1

Classic Apple pricing strategy where they push you to next tier very subtly. Unless you use iPad for video editing or intense workloads, the 13 inch screen is a better use of money than M4 chip. So I’d recommend 13 inch air.

For couch surfing, using it during commute, casual reading, multimedia etc. Do you feel 13 inch screen is alright or heavy to use? Firstly, I love this video. It’s no frills and on point to a layman’s consideration, with an engineering analysis mind in being practical. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
If I may add my 2cents worth. For media consumption, I enjoy it on the go and hence usually pair it with a Bluetooth earpiece.
If I am at home, I will instead use it on my TV, so for me, 2 vs quad, there isn’t any major incentive there. If I really wanted audio quality, the quad speaker on the iPad Pro won’t be as good as a Bluetooth speaker.
To me, the quad speaker is also a marketing gimmick with very little upside from the dual speaker in the Air.
I am also in the market for an iPad. Getting the Air is a certainty however deliberating on the screen size

  • @MrFiddler1959

If I didn't want the larger screen I would go for the 11" pro. My current iPad is a 2018 11" pro that needs a $500 repair. It was a great device; the only downside was that I started using music reading apps, and my piano library is becoming increasingly more digital. The apps either scale the pages down making the notation smaller, or when turning the iPad sideways make the notes readable, but fewer of them on the screen, making more frequent page turns. (Many of my orchestral friends are now using iPads on their music stands, and they tend to use 13" models to have pages more life-sized than 11" screens allow.) I'm glad there is a lower cost option for the larger screen, as the 2024 13" pro is decidedly overkill (both power and budget). The trade-offs you describe aren't deal-breakers, since any newer iPad will be a performance jump for me.

I’m currently in the same situation. I’m from Malaysia, and below are the prices I’ve found for two brand new iPads:
    11" iPad Pro M2 2022 (WiFi+Cellular) 128GB + Apple Pencil 2: Approx. US$875
13" iPad Air M2 2024 (WiFi) 128GB + Apple Pencil Pro: Approx. US$862 (after Back to School offer)
I want to buy one primarily for drawing. Currently, I’m using a 2020 Samsung Tab S6 Lite, but it’s very laggy.
I’m having trouble deciding because both iPads are priced almost the same.
The iPad Pro has a 120Hz refresh rate, which is great for drawing, but is the 11" screen large enough? The extra speakers, cameras, and cellular function don’t really matter to me.
The iPad Air has a 13" screen and comes with the Apple Pencil Pro, but it has one less GPU core than the iPad Pro, a 60Hz refresh rate, and no Thunderbolt. I’m not sure if 60Hz is good enough for drawing, especially since I’m used to the 120Hz on my iPhone.
Some say that an 11" screen is good enough for drawing and that a 13" screen might be too hard to hold and less portable compared to the 11". But others suggest that for drawing, a bigger screen is better.
I’m really not sure which one I should choose. It’s a tough decision.

I had iPad AIr 4 and it was nice experience for the money, but i sold it to buy MacBook Pro. Nowadays I planned to buy iPad 10th gen to do media consumption, a little of music production, learning languages and movies. Then I started to think of base iPad Air 5, because M-chip is more future proof and costs just a bit more. After that I thought of how I got used to 120hz screen on my iPhones, then went to the shop to try all of the iPads and now I can think only about Pro models haha. So now I'm deciding between iPad Pro 11 M2 for 800$ in my country, iPad Pro 12.9 M2 (Cellular) for 1000$ and iPad Pro 11 M4 for about 1000$ too. I'm a PWM sensitive person especially for Samsung's OLED screens (I got the info that all 11 inch M4 Pros have Samsung screens). So it's a bit easier now. iPad Pro 11 M2 seems the best deal for money, but can't stop thinking about 12.9 inches mini-LED cellular for just 1000$, oughhhhh.

Apart from having a big screen, there is another advantage, especially for artist in using iPad Air 2024 13" over iPad Pro 2022 because this version (Air 2024) supports Apple Pencil USB C and also Apple Pencil Pro which gives you a great feature called barrel roll, very useful for artists whereas 2022 iPad Pro doesn't support new Apple Pencil Pro. It is only compatible with Pencil 2 or USB C Pencil. Besides, iPad Pro 2024 also supports Apple Pencil USB C and Apple Pencil Pro which is obvious.

Superb video! Wonderful to find someone speaking the rationale that has passed through their own head.
I was about to go and buy the M2 iPad Pro 11" 256 tomorrow morning, and RUclips recommends this video to me. I've been using iPad Air 2 for like 8 years or something. And it has finally started lagging. I want to buy an iPad for note-taking mostly. I'm starting engineering. I also plan to use it for my creative freelance projects.
The reason I planned for Pro was because I've been trying out the 120hz display at Apple stores for quite some time now. And each time.. it looks so fluid and amazing. I want that 😭. I'm also worried that if I do go for 13" Air, the size might be a little too big for me and not portable. But at the same time a larger display will be super useful for note-taking. I'm so confusedddddd Gosh.

@@anjanagowtham But then it's too expensive. And I already have a 13" MacBook Air. I think it makes sense to have a smaller device. And as I will be travelling more, I think there is a level of portability that I wish for my tab. A (mostly psychological) friction. Plus I thought if I'm going for iPad Pro M2 256 (₹90k) I'd then spend the extra and get M4 256 (₹100k). Then I convinced myself that the 120hz is something I'll be forgetting soon and just save 20k instead. So I've finally decided to get iPad Air M2 11" 256 (₹70k). 😅 I'm so excited I couldn't sleep last night haha.

@@leiiryu Hii! I had a cash crunch and haven't bought it yet. 😅 But I've almost decided on buying the iPad Pro 11 inch. From what I've seen I'm like 99% sure that 11 inch will be better. The reason people take iPad when they want to do some computing task over a laptop is because it feels like it is a smaller hassle. A reduction in friction. But a 13" iPad will definitely come with more friction in using it. So.. yeah. What's the situation with you? Student?

I don't own an ipad but want one. After watching this I'm leaning towards the 10th gen one because I like the function row included with the older keyboard. I'm on an old 2012 iMac using Catalina so yeah I'm finding the pricing really high lately. Looking to get a new iMac or a laptop instead to replace this one. Thinking an ipad might help me go a bit longer until they bring out new iMacs. Or I may get the Mac Studio with an external monitor. I don't like the lacking function row in the new ipad air keyboard. The new pro is just too expensive when I could get a Macbook Air instead. I really want an ipad just to explore Procreate as I've never used it and am curious about it. Also want to use Davinci Resolve as my older iMac can only handle shorter videos with the 17 version.
