you literally don't show the most important part which is assembling the rod to remove the rear tire most people have done this before have no freaking idea how to do that
Omg man Thank you for the video. I fought with this shit for about 2 hours last night11pm) and I could not get it. Woke up this morning and tried a few times and still nothing. Then I came across your video. Saved the day man much appreciated!
I seen 20 or 30 videos on how to get my spare tire out of my GMC so I get it but your explanation is the one I needed to hear because it was very unique just a little common sense is all I wanted thank you
I've watched 'several' other videos but this one showed me exactly why pushing on the latch side with the tire iron works........and it does! Finally got mine down after hours of frustration. The only thing I liked better from the other videos was using a ratchet strap around the tire and cross members instead of the crappy bottle jack.
Thank you for that. this is exactly what’s happening to My suburban I’m so happy you put this video on RUclips you were very explicit with your details.
I'm a service truck driver for a certain motor club, one of my first few calls I went on was a tire change for a Silverado. This call took me THREE HOURS, because I had no idea about GM and their damn locking system.
Super helpful, thanks, Bob! NMT Outdoors has a very helpful video as well, but I think your explanation and great video of the "wrong side" and the "hook side" of the secondary latch works a little better for me. Also seems like chicken soup (can't hurt, might help) to let some penetrant (PB Blaster) soak into the latch first. We'll see after I calm down enough to have another go at my 2013 Chevy Tahoe spare. Thanks!
Thanks, could have not removed my 2003 Express spare with out your sharing of the knowledge. I did need to spray a little penetrating oil on that latch with the boot removed and two jacks holding the tire up. Then hit the end of the screw driver with a hammer and wallah!
Still not understanding why GM made this so difficult. Glad I found this before I decided to put my spare on. I have a tire with a chunk of metal in it (thankfully under warranty) that keeps losing air. Just waiting for my appointment to get it warrantied (thank you COVID) NOT.
Gave up after an hour and half. Will now use fix a flat foam spray to get me to the shop so I never have to mess with this spare again brilliant design chevy
Ive always loved Chevy but damn if they been the biggest pieces of crap I've had. Except for my 79 Scottsdale. Super reliable, never broke down for the 1 year I drove it. I never changed the oil in cuz I was adding a court every week or 2. Had a 86 camaro iroc and only was able to drive it 4 times then it quit running. Had problems with the motor and tons if electrical problems. Had a 350 in it and it couldn't spin tires. Had a 98 camaro that was garbage. Paid 4gs for it with 98k mikes on it. Had electrical problems too. Top wouldn't go down half the time along with windows not rolling down and and radio would go out. Over heating problem, had clay like stuff in the radiator probably from someone adding coolant besides dexcool. Had chrome rims that caused tires to be flat every morning. Sold it for 300 5 months after I bought it and the driveshaft fell out of car. Bought a 1990 Silverado for 1000 drove it twice then head gasket blew. Just bought a 2oo2 suburban and its somehow going threw 3 quarts of oil a month and its not leaking. Ac system has been worked on several times and it quit blowing cold again. Window motors have gone out in the back. And I just bought the suburban 6 weeks ago. Had a 1992 ranger drove it for a year and all I had to do was replacing time belt at 180000 miles. And replaced exhaust manifold, right after it was replaced it went out again probably because the mechanic bought a used 1 but idk. Had a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee inline 6 with 236000 drove for year and a half. No problems with it until 6 Months later overdrive quit working half the time and then other gears didn't want to shift. Was either tranny going bad or solonoid. Was still able to drive for over a year after that. With it going bad I drove it from nc to GA in the mountains. Cant beat a jeep Cherokee 4wd with inline. Just go ahead and replace the radiator and water pump before they go bad. Also keep a eye on the coolant level. They are known for head gaskets going if overheated. That inline 6 has a lot of power. I pulled out a 80s suburban that was stucjin the mud and I barely touch the gas. I raced a 89 f150 with a v8 with hooker headers and 33 inch mud terrains and smoked his ass
Reminds me of a guy I knew that said he loved his mercedes - after the fourth transmission replacement. I'm selling my silverado and I'm done with that brand.
I've driven well over one million miles and have never had a flat that had to be fixed on the road, though I've had a few slow leaks. I've often wondered why I even carry a spare
Can't risk a law suit from a spare tire injuring or killing somebody. This why they make it the way it is. You'll be fine. Put your big boy shoes on 🤦😂
you did great with this video,.. I'm going to make one too,... it's messed up deal,...! Imagine, it's snowing you hit a curb, got a flat,... tire won't come down,...?????
I purchased my Chevy third hand and my rod was missing a segment. Ensure your rod has all 4 rods including the tire iron, or else youll need to saw the plastic "feeder" tube off, as I had.
GM Update: Lower tire as low as it will go. Take your bolt cutters and cut the F%cking wire that holds it and never use this system again. Buy a nice tire cover and place the spare in the cargo area and never use this stupid system again. I speak from experience.
So, in other words, the spare is permanently attached to the truck. I feel like such a fool for buying yet another GM product. This is the last one. I'm so done.
@@pdpete4807 Anytime, you've been a mentor through out my life. Approaching 75, I would not let you do this yourself. You've always been there for me; it was the least I could do. Lastly, 32 years ago, I knew nothing about vehicle maintenance. I have you to thank for introducing me to tools and showing me how things are to be done. You are my friend ;)

Real talk, this video personally helped me out today when I had a blowout, never knew about the fun spare tire stuff on my s10. Either way thank you!
Thank you so much for mentioning the tool end to use. I was about to lose my mind trying to get that fool tire off

I can see that is will be a bad news situation out in the boonies.
I will remove my tire and stored it in the bed
Sounds like I need a degree in Astrophysics to attain my spare.
Or you just need to use your brain

uenragedbro i work in the same business

Was gonna cut it outta ther til wife found this vid. Thanx. Lol
July 6th, 2018 .. This just Helped out lots. Thank you very much!
Thank you so much I've been battling that for so long trying to figure out how to get that off
Bo I hope this helps me this weekend get this rusted mechanism off. New one ready to put on with new bag of irons that were missing from my truck.

so what you're saying is my spare tire is never coming down. For the first time in my life I hate Chevy!
If you use my method it will come down. You'll really hate Chevy if you ever have to replace the heater core!!
Lol . Thinking about it the same way.... Extra work/Method on getting it off!

I'm never putting my spare under there again. Bull$hit engineering. I love Chevy...but this is wrong! My tire now stays in the truck bed unfortunately
Reminds me of a guy I knew that said he loved his mercedes - after the fourth transmission replacement. I'm selling my silverado and I'm done with that brand.

Why do they make it so confusing. What happen to just leaving the tire in the trunk casing than do all this
Cj Sokore pickups don’t have trunks
If that spare tire flew off on a freeway or any street and injured or killed someone. Big bucks they gotta pay out. Rather be safe then sorry.
Man you jump around so much I can’t tell what the hell is going on
🤯 I just got a 2010 Savana and stumbled on this while searching for the nutwrench/jack location..I guess I better practice before I have to do this
Thanks bro
Added to download vids. Gonna be very helpful 1 day on my already rusty 2012
I ended up hacking my cable with a pair of snips my center is rusted to the rim
Thanks bro. 👍😀
Mod #1 - get the spare tire lowered and off the cable. Then take a grinder and cut the safety latch off.
I purchased my Chevy third hand and my rod was missing a segment. Ensure your rod has all 4 rods including the tire iron, or else youll need to saw the plastic "feeder" tube off, as I had.

Thanks for posting.
Thank you!!!!!
I hope this works. I'm about to go help a friend remove his spare on his Denali on this balmy -27 C day ;)
Thanks Tibor it was damn cold and wouldn't have got it done myself!

My tire dropped down automatically using jack handles, how do I get the tire off the cable after it's on the ground? It dropped easily.
Not supposed to work like that
Imagine doing this on side of road in dead of winter!!
Why don't you show how to release that latch with the tire on the hanger
Kind of looks like we're going to need lots of luck...
So how is this accomplished with the tire nice and snug in there? Looks easy enough... with NO TIRE on!
"nice and easy"
This is absurd! i'm supposed to do this in an emergency on the side of the road?!
That tire comes off and kills or hurts somebody ? 💰💰💰💰💰 taking extra steps to be safe 😂
Instructions unclear. Started tuning tool to lower tire and my truck went up instead of the tire coming down.
That was funny.
so most peopl are screwed, call roadsid assistance to change it lol
pull off the dangerous highway though
Where is the rod tool located? Thx
Under the rear seat. The rear seat on a 2004 folds up.
Bob, the 4th stooge. You might as well have the left the video blank. Nice job???
ill never buy a truck that has something like this ill just buy another honda civic at work i got a flat tire change it like in 10 minutes lol im just checking this because im gona drive an acadia for my vacation damn hope i dont get a flat ill just call triple a that craps looks very fucken complicated stick to your cars people what if someone is chasing u ian the woods n u have a flat u r dead lol
GM what was they thinking about
What kind of car not Brand
Nope!!! Welded two pieces of all thread and a bar to go across the tire like the old time tire holders
I cut that cheap rusted shit and put my spare in the bed. I travel too much for this GMC madness. Awesome video though
Wow! That's the "easy" method eh?!
Or maybe just replace the hoist….?
Maybe lube it up with anti-seize when you put it back together
Great video but this is totally rediculous
Dont Make No Dam Since to Make it dat Complicated just to takw a Dam Spare Tire Off Sheesh i will lev mine off forever after i take it dwn it will stay in the Back Compartment
Shows how the mechanism works without showing how to actually remove the tire. This video was not helpful in the slightest.
This is the dumbest idea ever for a tire removal
Torrie Davis
Just ran into this problem on my 05 Envoy XUV. been cussing GMC for three damned hours.
Y'all should use the automatic spare tire winch
What the hell is this guy talking about?
You didnt even show us how to drop it so the video is pointless.
Chevrolet should be ashamed
Y'all should get the automatic spare tire winch
And the winner of the worst design category goes to...
Wtf
What crappy engineering I'm never going to replace the spare underneath
Crap vid. You can’t fit that thing in the hole. You need to show how rods go in the hole
GM is fucking stupid for this design!
sound like too much fucking work!!!!
He didn’t explain shit
Waste of video you’re not showing anything informative
