    The _only_ midnight release I've ever been to was Skyrim's. Me and three of my buddies went to the local Play N Trade, all high af, and one of my friends proceeded to lead the entire store in singing Queen songs. After we got our copies, we all went back to my friend's apartment where we'd all brought over our 360s and TVs and lined them up in a row so we could play the game together. After a while one of my friends starts freaking out and laughing his ass off pointing to his TV. He'd stumbled across a giant camp near Whiterun and a giant had launched him into orbit. The rest of us immediately ran off toward that giant camp to try to replicate his experience. Good times.

That's these people, they cannot fathom anybody has different lives than them.
      Or, it could just be a baiting troll posting it for attention. Similar story, lack of social interaction, so they seek it through social media usage. It's what most people do anyway, they don't interact with people face to face, so they fill that by posting things that drive engagement.

      Have to say, though, that's my primary gripe with the video. Everything else seems pretty good (style- and personality-wise, I mean. Don't have a big opinion on Elder Scrolls at all), but I don't have a good reaction to semi-informative videos where the youtuber isn't putting in a "reasonable" amount of research that would barely take more than a few minutes. It really doesn't make it seem like your video has much relevant information, since your investigative approach appears to be lackluster or at least spotty.
      It's still entertaining to watch, but might not be in-depths enough to keep the part of the potential audience around that shares my observation/opinion. That's still just my opinion, though.

    about Morrowind being half Skyrim, this is a myth, both games use different scales, Skyrim has a bit bigger map but the playable area is a bit smaller because most of the regions are mountains. The Skywind team confirmed this some time ago, the playable area of Morrowind is much bigger and dense. Just to have an idea, the Project Tamriel team (they are making the whole Tamriel in Morrowind engine) has a tiny part of Skyrim (province) done in their map (Morrowind using Morrowind Scaale), but when compared with the Skyrim (game) map, it is 1/3 of the total size.

    3DFX wasn't the wrong horse, it was THE horse. nVidia, ATi (which was later bought out by AMD), Matrox, Rendition Verite, they all trailed behind. All games supported 3DFX because it was the fastest and most feature rich. Many 3D technologies like anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering were first commercially available on 3DFX. D3D could only catch up with 3DFX with DX7, which was released in 1999. Buying out 3DFX lead to nVidia's tech leader position today. nVidia didn't put 3DFX out of business with their superior cards, 3DFX committed suicide and lost its leading position in the industry. Check. Your. Facts.

    i think a big part of skyrim's legacy was the fulfilled hype. you could've went to anyone on your friends list 3 days after launch and they weren't only playing the hot new game- they were 30 hours in. missed work, skipped school, cancelled plans. everyone was trying to explore as much as possible as fast as possible, comparing skills, and armor finds, and discusing whacky little side quests no one else has found yet. i have so few titles in mind where the hype actually delivered. For me skate 2, skyrim, red dead 1, gta 5, battlefield bad company 2 are the some of the only games i can think of where they were as good or better than the prelaunch hype. all those games had a pretty big impact on gaming.

    Something in the gaming community that bothers me is the push for branching stories with multiple endings in every game. Don't get me wrong I love making those choices in the right game but what I really loved about BGS games (and Morrowind in particular) is the player agency on how to play the game more than what happens. Rather than play through and be given a choice on the destination, BGS games gave the freedom to get to the same end in multiple ways. When you're rescuing that Milo chick from the prison, me and my 2 brothers all did it differently and therefore all had a different experience to talk about. 1 cut a bloody swath through at a high level. Another carefully sneaked in and teleported out. I personally just ran as fast as possible, dodged the swings, chugged health potions and abused enemy pathing bugs. I miss that freedom to game the system in a way that still feels fun

    god i wish people would try to actually learn how to play eso. theres so much to experience in the game especially as a lore nerd that you only get access to through playing at a higher level. i really want to encourage people to look past the shallow early game writing and focus on the intricate combat and class system really learning to take advantage of arguably the best combat system in and elder scrolls game. the writing improves drastically once you get past the beginner content which largely you dont really have to do or only have to sorta do depending on if you make friends and join a guild you may be able to skip right to the more interesting story lines. learning to really play the game and doing the dungeons and trials will also give you way more insight to the lore of the world. you can get competitive and go for veteran leaderboard runs when youre good enough and theres solo, 4 man, and 12 man trials/arenas that are for the most part very fun and well designed. i really recommend giving eso and honest play through and making friend will make the end game far far easier than trying to do everything with random people. theres tons of content creators that make build guides and dps guides for those who want to take the game more serious. i highly recommend my friend skinny cheeks for any eso pve advice hes amazing.

    • @Player2Gaming
      @Player2Gaming  2 месяца назад +3

      Arena is much larger. The difference is you have to fast travel to each province and then can only walk around that province in Arena. In Daggerfall you can literally walk from the edge of Hammerfell to High Rock on foot without fast traveling

    • @Kijinn
      @Kijinn 2 месяца назад

      I'm certainly surprised to find out that Arena truly has a far bigger game world than Daggerfall. Problem is, Arena's world is supposed to be navigated solely by fast travel, since no one has ever been able to freely walk from one location to the next, due to the insane scale and absence of any help in orientation, when just walking. That means the huge map becomes pretty useless.
      TBF, though, the same was basically true for Daggerfall, before the Unity version removed the fog. It wasn't impossible to reach locations on foot, but there was a great chance you'd walk past your desired target location repeatedly, with the extremely limited range of vision in the original.

    • @jackie.dee.01
      @jackie.dee.01 2 месяца назад +3

      It’s not the scale. The world is not “physically” big. The towns are their own locations with infinitely generating terrain on all sides. No matter how long you travel in whatever direction, you will still technically be in the town you traveled to. Therefore yes, Daggerfall is bigger as you can actually walk from one place to another.

When everyone was complaining they could barely run this and that title, I was cranking everything to 11 before even starting to play any game...I'll never forget when a friend visited my house and was like "Am I even playing the same game :o " :D Pushing a 2.6ghz CPU to 4.2-4.5 for 24/7 was insane.

    Playing Arena, and especially Daggerfall really hones in how the games kind of had to simplify themselves over the years to keep up with their growing audience. A modern game with Daggerfall's scope just might not be feasibly possible especially in today's unpredictable gaming climate.

    Elder Scrolls 6 with AI-powered NPCs that feel like real people. Imagine walking into a tavern and having a conversation with the barkeep that's as dynamic and unpredictable as a real-life chat. Your questions, tone of voice, and even your past actions could influence their responses, opening up new dialogue options and maybe even triggering hidden quests.
    This could revolutionize every interaction in the game. Imagine persuading a stubborn Jarl with a heartfelt plea, or calming a raging beast with a soothing song. Your choices and your words could have real consequences, shaping your journey in unexpected ways. With AI like ChatGPT, each conversation could feel unique and organic, leading to endless possibilities for roleplaying and storytelling. Maybe you'll even uncover secret plots or unlock special rewards just by talking to the right person in the right way. And hey, who knows, maybe someday we'll get to experience all this in VR, making it even more immersive. But even without VR, the potential for AI-driven conversations in TES6 is huge. Imagine a world where every NPC feels like a real person, with their own unique personalities and motivations. That's the kind of RPG experience that's been attempted for decades and the power is at our fingertips with tech Right now.

    iirc "The Elder Scrolls Legend" was a series planned for specific events or timeframes etc, whereas "The Elder Scrolls Adventures" was a series for Action Adventure games (that's why it's in the name...) without any RPG elements, focussed on a special character within the lore or a "tale" basically.
    I have to say that Redguard was one of my favorite games in the whole series, because of the well written story and the awesome adventure quest that actually felt like a treasure hunt with lillandrils flakon and the whole story around that. I mean, technical issues aside... people often forget that Redguard is the playable groundwork for almost all of the TES lore. Khajiit weren't catfolk before, accents and different racial traits etc were introduced there and of course the whole story around dragons and the amulet of kings. This is basically the groundwork for future titles.
    Sadly the dragon lore was basically killed in Skyrim (I mean... lore-wise Skyrim ruined everything due to its horrible writing/dialogues), whereas the daedric artifacts and the amulet of kings were made worthless in Oblivion already (who gives the f*ing Amulet of Kings to a retired blade who puts it into a f*ing wooden crate protected by a wooden door... which weren't even locked?!).
    Sure Redguard was a flop, but TES wouldn't be the same without it.

      So I was really on a time crunch trying to finish this video before my move. I literally moved the day after I edited everything and posted it (don’t know how I did it all tbh)
      Point is, i didn’t really get the chance to finish each of these games. I think I really need to go back and finish Redguard. When doing my research I watched an interview where Todd Howard basically said he still stands by that game as being great to this day. The scope was just smaller than what their audience wanted.

      @@Player2Gaming Yes I've read that, too. They marketed these Spin-Off titles quite bad. I think nobody really understood that the "Adventures" series was intended for Action Adventure games etc. I think most people just assumed "The Elder Scrolls? Ok, it's another RPG" :D. Which is fair obviously, people nowadays think of Skyrim instead of "The Elder Scrolls" whereas even some people don't know that there were games before Skyrim :D.
      But yeah, I'd recommend playing it, maybe watching a playthrough somewhere. And don't hesitate to pick up a guide if you're stuck somewhere. Since the controls are quite clunky, certain quests might be hard to solve, due to lack of feedback for some actions etc.
      As a tip: The drunken dudes in the Draggin Tail are meant to be training dummies, you can practice fighting with them :) the combat system seems simple and straight forward, but it isn't (doesn't mean that it's good though... clunky controls again haha). Oh and take a look at the Easter Eggs page in the UESP wiki, if you're into that stuff :). Some funny references and insights.
      And gratz for you new apartment/house :)! I hope the move went well and you're happy with your new home :D

    It's very interesting. In the same year, 1994, both BGS and FromSoftware began their dedication to RPG games development. Both were inspired by Ultima, and the creative potential of the Medieval dungeon crawler.
    BGS launched The Elder Scrolls, and FromSoftware launched King's Field. However, the first King's Field was a PS 1 Japanese exclusive. But their international second release put them on the map.
    But, literally since Morrowind, BGS has been on a steady march to remove features and simplify their games, causing them to stray continuously away from what could be called an RPG. Fallout 76 is literally a shooter, not an RPG. Starfield is a shooter with a translucent RPG overlay.
    Yet arguably, FromSoftware has steadily improved its games and gameplay, even expanding its formula into its first open world game - something both fans and critics said that couldn't be done. However, Elden Ring was a tremendous success.
    So, beginning at the same time, after Morrowind, BGS has had a steady decline of its RPG philosophy. The increased accessibility of Skyrim resulted in a major success for the company.
    But the practice of simplification eventually caught up with them. And sales are largely driven by nostalgia, not competent game design.
    Whereas FromSoftware has worked tirelessly to improve their game design with each iteration, and in spite of the fact that they have not made their games more accessible, and are recognized as some of the most challenging games to beat, they have evolved into one of the most successful developers, making some of the best games currently available.
    It's quite a dichotomy. BGS is experiencing a slow death, creating incredibly mediocre games. While FromSoftware is absolutely killing it, commercially and critically, game after game...

    Honestly your AI idea sounds perfect. It would allow for some hilarious jank but also give nearly unlimited potential - especially if your stats can influence how the AI interacts with your character.
    I like the idea of your charisma level having an impact on how willing the AI is to listen to you. And maybe low intelligence would make what you say be translated a bit dumber with your words being simplified.
    So many awesome things can be done with the technology.
    Great video by the way.
