I like how Tommy criticizes ww2 tanks by comparing them to modern day ones. Very insightful dommy, thank you.
well yeah but look at the t34. Sloped armor isnt new, that was the main negative of the later panzers and esp the tiger 1 with its completely flat front plate.
Dommy is a man of logic, of reasoning, he didnt read a book until he was already a man.
@@Oliver_McCombie I always had the view that they copied some aspects of the T-34 exterior design when making the Panther and King Tiger after getting their asses kicked in the Eastern front with their flat boxes that are Tiger 1 and earlier Panzers. A panther basically looks like a complicated scaled up T-34
@@Oliver_McCombie the char b1 was designed in the early 20s with it too
“Just slope it even more”
I find it cool that the tank tommy designed is basically an IS-7 with a built-in jammer.
It doesnt Look like is7 at all
@@MsPysoul it does
That looks nothing like an IS-7
It looks like this abomination: i0.wp.com/cdn-frm-eu.wargaming.net/wot/eu/uploads/monthly_11_2021/post-522622929-0-35611700-1638261273.jpg
@@Filthy_Freeaboo I have seen REAL IS-7 in REAL life and it looks like it

Guys, just wait until Tommy heard about Armour Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabots, maybe that's why angled armour works slightly less well nowadays, not saying it's not important
It works perfectly nowadays, because the main problem for tanks is still mainly other tanks. What we see in Ukrain is death of ruzzian doctrine, not a tank
@@salce_with_onion Advancements in drone/Air power technology has and will further make tanks irrelevant and useless in the next few decades, its inevitable
@@FriedrichBarb people have been saying that for decades.
Even in WW2 tanks units would get annihilated when used wrong.
@@nilloc93 Thats not the point, I meant from a cost efficient view they are economically not worth it, when a 78.000 cost missile from a drone or launcher can take out a 5+ million cost tank.
Drones werent as deadly or sophisticated until the past 3 decades, its a new technology and will only get more powerful.
Its not the 20th century anymore. Further you progress into the 21st century the more and more tanks will become inefficient.
@@nilloc93 yeah like... France did have alot of tanks in ww2 but they used them really badly
If you think you can design a tank Tommy, get Sprocket. Sprocket is a game where you can design and test your own tank in very in depth detail.
how about he gets an engineering degree instead
@@AnimalMother207 Sprocket's cheaper
@@t2force212 sprocket is literal shit
imagine being a ww2 games streamer and have no idea about ww2 technology and designs
So 80% of Hoi4 players then basically
The problem with sloped armor is that it limits the available space inside the tank, making it more cramped and more difficult to fit in all the machinery and equipment you need for the tank to preform well and making the tank harder for the crew to operate. 55 degrees was the most the front plate could realistically be sloped with the technology of the time and is quite sufficient for enhancing protection to the level needed. Modern tanks only look the way they do because 70 years of constant evolution in tank technologies allows for it.
Also Dommys tank design is so bad it hurts my eyes.
Tommy: "The Ukraine war proves that tanks are no longer meta."
Also Tommy: "Tanks are still good if you have aerial superiority."
Gee, it sounds like tanks work the same as they did in ww2; Russia has red air, the tank crews are poorly trained, the generals are eating rocks and Ukraine has an infinite number of anti-tank missile from NATO. No wonder they're losing a million tanks.
With such a slope, more metal spent and less usable space in the tank.
The same sloping is used on modern tanks which is what Tommy is used to as a former soldier
@@Edo_Ginting those modern tanks are usually longer/wider than a tiger 2 while remaining in the same weight class.
Modern tanks also did away with the hull gunner/radio operator and run 4 man crews which massively saves on internal space. Its the same thing as comparing the colossus computer from WW2 to a modern supercomputer and going "WOW why is is so slow"
@@nilloc93 Which I agree with 100% It's just modern tanks is what Tommy actually understands with his experienve in the army. Which is why he incorrectly compares the tanks here, to the modern Leopards that he is used to.
@@Edo_Ginting Tommy doesn't have modern tanks, he literally said yesterday that he wanted to watch a video on the leopard because he doesn't understand it.
Pretty sure the tank museum has the only running Tiger and is used in tons of films like Fury
The King Tiger? No...
@@bobyouruncle4708 he talked about the tiger, not the king tiger
Tommy building his own tank? Sprocket when? Another dubby w vid
the more of non hoi4 content I watch from Tommy the more I realise he's pretty.... Naive... to say the least.
bro i experienced the same thing,i watch tommy on youtube since the channel pretty much exists but never watched him on twitch because i am not a virgin,i watched a couple of his reaction/irl videos and the dude is genuinely obnoxius arrogant and dumb af
I love how tommy criticised them so heavily for using flat armour as if there was no reason for them doing that
I was curious. 351,000 Reichsmark is roughly 15 million usd today.
You should see LazerPig’s video of the Panther Paradox.
Das Deutsche Panzer Museum in Munster hat eine dreiteilige Video und Reihe über den Königstiger gemacht, wäre glaube ich auch eine Reaktion Wert.
No, the U.S. had the best tanks during WW2, and depending on what you need in a tank, they still have the best ones even today.
true
17:20 german tank designer showing his future tank design to the German high command circa;1941
It can’t be more sloped because you need to fit people and things in the tank. Transmission is very big
the tiger 2's front armor would get easily pierced by modern APFSDS rounds. Also don't be so surprised at weight, most western MBT's are 60-70 tons.
Also tanks are still meta, just because the russians use them like idiots doesn't mean they're useless. Look at the soviets in WW2 their tanks were fine in 1941 but they got stomped by the germans, poor coordination leads to losses no matter the equipment. Also if tanks were useless why is Ukraine asking for them?
Imo no nation had had the best tank of ww2. I think each nation had their own best tank of ww2. IE germanys was the panther, the ussr's was specifically the t 34 85 variant rhe US's is a tie between sherman easy eight vatiant and the pershing. And so on, each tank had its own pros and cons. So at least imo, the quote and quote best tank of ww2 were many ties for the number one1 spot there is no one specific tank that's better than another
Panzermuseum munster is great, they also have a tiger 1 replica
Tommy and Age of empires would certainly be interesting.
If u want to design tank, sprocket is good
TommyKay should play Sprocket
Someone show him the Objekt 279 lol slopes for days
There is no doubt that the tanks were fearsome in terms of firepower, and the King Tiger was actually decently mobile despite its size (look up any videos of it moving), but the problem is that they were too prone to breakdown, and too complicated for any crew to reasonably fix it on the field. For that simple factor alone they did not sport the best tanks of the war.
They may have been better, but they couldn't make anywhere near enough to match the allies production.
I would say no, while late war german heavies had good hard factors such has a good gun and thick armor, they were shit at soft factors like visibility, crew comfort and reliability. I think tanks like the Sherman were much more effective due to this.
Not too much how easy the sherman was too manafacture compared to its counterpart the panther
visibility was quite good and the optics were great. the only issue was the reliability
@@matteo.v3758 I heard the commander of a panther couldn't see the back of the tank without opening the cupola. That's why I said this but I don't really have anything to post as reference so I may be wrong.
@@simplypepe1732 the panther also had a terrible final drive and over pressured suspension with weak side armor
@@simplypepe1732 transmission*not suspension. The suspensions was alright as far as I know
The Paper Panzers are fascinating, but there's a lot of bullshit to step in.
It was nice of WT to include some of them, but even then, they were not accurate to the source drawings and basically plucked from thin air, quelle surpreeze.
slope like the merkava
this video is basically 🐵sloped armor good 🐵
ye probs
nah
Is it just me why does he say rockets there were not Any rockets in ww2 it just has to bounch an ap sheĺl
have you never heard of a bazooka or a Panzerschreck or panzer Faust or Katyusha there were plenty of rockets in ww2
If tanks were useless ukr wouldnt want so many now would they? Tanks are still very versityle war machines and yet there is no machine who can do everything a tank can as good as a tank
German tanks were good but overengineered, also were logistical nightmares because there were so many variants, Soviet tanks were well designed but terribly built. American tanks were mid but well built and easy maintenance. Japanese tanks were straight ass and British tanks were actually quite good but had nothing particularly noteworthy.
Well yes but actually no
German tanks were overcomplicated and ureliable. King Tiger was trash, Panther was unreliable as well. Panzer IV was probably the last good german tank of that era
Panzer iv wasn't that good but it's up there with better German tanks of the war. It was good in the beginning but later on it was far less effective
The Panther was a step in the right direction, with them starting to learn to standardize each variant, but thankfully it never reached it's full potential.
Early Panthers were unreliable as heck, but later on it became more reliable and cheaper
@@Kalashnikov413 true at some stage becoming easier to produce than panzer ivs but some issues like the overpressured transmission remained
@@sorrymabbad panther was a step backwards
Actually tommy i think you should infact design your own tank in Sprocket and test them out in the missions it would defo be very entertaining.
I like tommy but my god these were for the most part awful takes.
