Hi, thanks for the video. I have 2023 iX XDrive 50 and I just got new Samsung S24 ultra. For some reason, why I try to set up digital key plus, app is telling me that "device js not recognized". Any ideas on how to fix this?
This is a really cool feature, it is convenient that you don’t have to take your phone out of your pocket to unlock the doors or put it in the charger tray to start the vehicle but now that I’ve activated the feature and see how easy it is to use, it worries me about security. Is there a way that I can set my phone or car so that it requires me to unlock the phone to use this feature? If I lose my phone or someone steals it, they also have access to my car. Thanks for any help in advance.
@@performingspecs7841 Depending on your phone you shouldn't have to worry about security. Apple iPhones are the most secure way to do this connection, so yes if someone steals your phone AND knows what car you drive you could have some trouble. BUT there is a timer that isn't talked about where if you don't unlock your phone for 4 hours the digital key won't connect initially until it gets unlocked. I don't know if android phones capable of digital key plus have the same thing but i know apple does. if desired you can manually turn off your bluetooth to make your phone only act as a digital key, not digital key plus for when you want that extra security.
2024 i4 only comes with DK, not DK+, right? So, I have to open my digital key and hold it to the door to unlock, and I cannot simply keep my phone in my pocket to unlock the door? Does DK allow you to keep your other door unlock/lock settings? When I walked away, the car did not lock like it does with my fob, so with DK, do I have to go to the MyBMW app to lock the car (I didn't see an unlock/lock feature in DK wallet)?
Unfortunately no, the 2,3,4, X3 and X4 series all still use Digital Key only, it’s a hardware difference between them and the rest of the cars which were updated with either an LCI or new model cycle.
I have a 330e and plus is not working. BMW of Fremont says 3 series are compatible. iPhone 15 and tired of having Bluetooth connectivity with BMW and every person I know with a BMW same complaint. Even I open the car with my phone it does not register profile as me most of the time goes to guest profile. I like the ride and gas mileage but tired of electronics.
Does the car have to have the wireless charging pad for the digital key? I have the options in my digital cockpit menu but have never had luck syncing this feature. 2019. 330ix
yes, or at least the NFC pad ( looks like the phone but without the battery and lightning bolt in the middle.) but for a 2019 330xi you only get Digital Key, not DK+
Is there a difference between digital key and digital key plus? Mine I have to put the phone to the door to unlock it, but my friends unlocks on its own?
@@matterdoo that’s exactly the diffference… Digital Key is solely and NFC based entry/exit and start, Digital Key Plus takes DK and adds UWB and Bluetooth for convenience access for doors and starting the car.
thank you! So if I only only have the digital key, can I add the plus? I had a zTesla model 3 for 5 years and my phone worked as the key and whenever had to take it out of my pocket, but now I have to hold my phone to the door every time I get in and out? Can I update this to the plus?
how come now when I have my key fob in the car and I walk away from the car (2024 5 series) and because I have digital key plus on Apple Watch and IPhone the car starts honking like crazy even though the key is there inside? very frustrating when the car is running and you have to walk into the house for a second or when you valet and walk away its starts honking..... any solution?
leave your normal key at home... the two honk is standard for when you leave the motor running and the car locks upon closing the door with a comfort access key outside.
it's a couple extra 2 seconds but when you get towhere you're going and you're going to be back soon but want to leave it running, turn off the motor and choose precondition now to keep the motor running without that honking...
Just bought a 2023 X5 xDrive40i, and sadly, Digital Key Plus, does not work. Only the regular, Digital Key. Why won’t this work for a brand new BMW? Any plans for the X5? Might as well just use the key fob to start the vehicle. It’s annoying having to place the phone on the wireless charger, just to start the vehicle every time.
Second digital key? Once the first key is made, you’ll have a share option in your respective digital wallet, simply share with a contact and that’s that… new digital key is made, the recipient just needs to accept it on their end (and of course have a compatible phone)
So if someone steals my phone, they can go outside and steal my car without unlocking the phone? How about Face ID required to start the car? There’s already a camera in the instrument cluster looking at my face. Or just a simple 4-digit PIN required to start.
With digital key plus, they can just have your phone and walk out to the car… same as if it were a key… if you sos lock your phone passive entry gets disabled until passcode gets entered. As for Face ID to start the car, the point of digital key plus is to act the same as a standard vehicle key, no Face ID required, the camera in the instrument cluster is an IR camera not a lidar/face recognition camera, so Face ID in the car to start isn’t a thing as it currently stands. A simple 4 digit pin CAN be used to log into your profile, but the profile link isn’t linked to the car starting or not, just link to your personal info in the car if you decide to keep it safeguarded with the pin (think Valet mode that deactivates everything until your pin is put back in to unlock the functions of the car)
@@BMWofFW Thanks for the info. I was talking about the ability to set a PiIN (if you want) to start the car even with the regular key in your pocket. I used that function way back in 2007 in my E53 X5. It use to be possible.
Or maybe your car doesn’t have A) digital key plus, or b) your privacy settings aren’t set to allow app access to the car. Let’s start with a, which car do you drive?
