These videos are pure gold. I've done a complete about-face with my philosophy of education in the last several months, thanks to them. Gratefulness is what I wake up breathing every morning when I start the new day.

It’s crazy how similar Charlotte masons method of exams are just the standard in the uk! Most of our exams are essay based - even in STEM subjects. Another reason I love this method. These videos are pure gold!

      Right?
This sounds a lot like our exam questions we did in South Africa. We had a UK based school structure. And I know it aligns with GSCE and A level questions in chemistry because I've looked up those mock exams and rubrics.
These exam questions are so much more interesting than "bubble this box"

I think that the idea of no tests with CM comes from the frustration of standerdized testing. Our ideas of tests & exams often come our experience in public school. (For those of us that went to public schools.) CM exams, from your explanation, are very different than what many think of when we hear the word tests.

I have a will be ninth grader next year who I would love to do charlotte mason with, but habits of attention are non existent as well as doing his best work.(I started homeschooling him at the mid point of seventh grade) I'm not sure how much we can get done, and how to prepare him for college with this method.

But how do you grade a written or an oral narration for something other than language arts, when you’re in a position of needing a traditional GPA for each subject?

      You set up rubrics.
In addition to the resources provided, go look up the UK GSCE and A level exams and rubrics. A lot of their questions are like this.
