Richard, I was watching the weather reports and knew you had more rain heading your way.
The Davy Crockett lake dam was on the verge of failure, and the situation in Asheville NC is dire.
The landslides that took out of the roads , and the Devastation along the Pigeon river is heart breaking.
The 92 people who lost their lives from Helene
Crosby was lucky but there is still much damage and Helene is not done, as she will be dropping rain across the saturated lands as she pulls out to the northeast.
Asheville they are saying it will take months to get access to many areas road access is weeks away.
This was a 1000 year storm.

This was a “heads up” literally for the Appalachian area. Hopefully no more serious rain thru hurricane season till it’s over and give crews a chance to stabilize towns and communities along the path from further destruction. Loose ground and debris still poses a threat. It will take years and some things a lifetime to rebuild. A chance for reevaluation on how, where and why we may build in certain areas that may need to change. People have built some crazy locations along these mountains and river banks that aren’t there anymore. Some of them very beautiful. But gone. It took about three years to replace a one lane section of 1-40 through the mountains. How about the three lane missing now. What Now? We are in for the long haul…

@@OutpostReview it is more than one bridge over Pigeon river missing, I was a emergency management drone over flight of I40, and both direction the bridge was out. I40 in North Carolina is closed at mile marker 3 in both directions indefinitely
I 40 in Pigeon Gorge pass is devastated.

A very heartfelt message. No one really knows the trials and tragedies individuals face everyday somewhere. Self reliant and coming to the aid of a neighbor in need is how it should be. We opened our ranch in NM for 90 days to refugees of the big fires we had burning back then. Back to the Old School ways is where I see the value. Thank you for that.

From Asheville NC to Newport TN will be remembered for what it was because nothing will look the same after being redesigned by the water. Interstate, railroad, bridges and roads are gone in many places not to mention houses, buildings, barns etc. are in the lakebeds in the foothills now. This will be a long haul to get back to anything resembling normal.

Thanks for the update. Glad you (and your dogs) along with other family members and friends made it thru the storm without the damage that we have been seeing on the news. I live a few minutes from I40 in Arkansas and that route moves a lot of supplies. It looks like it will take years or so to get I40 and I26 back to what it was.

Yes it will. A lot of reevaluation is needed on how, where and why we build in certain areas. I’m sure it was cost effective why things were done in the past, but looks like that literally went down the drain. But, homes, families and a lifetime of work won’t replace those who will have no help rebuilding. It’s very sad. Stay safe and have a good week

Thanks for the quick update Richard, as I watched the news and saw all the devastating floods around Cocke County and western NC, I was hoping and praying you all weren't affected. It helped knowing you were on higher ground but I wasn't sure how much your creek would rise up the hill and cause damage. Praying for all the folks that were affected.

Thanks. Thankfully we don’t live near a river and ours is just a creek. You have probably seen pics of our creek running over in the videos but nothing like the river. Wow! What an awful situation it must be for so many people. I glad you all are safe. We had a huge ice storm up here about 20 years ago that took out hydro line all around us. Hydro was out for 17 days! We were luck because we had a small generator. Now we have a big generator and supplies to last 3 weeks. But there was actually little property damage. Nothing like what rushing water can do. Take care!

I could never live on a beach, don’t really care about going actually. Been there. Wouldn’t want to live at the lake either. Just not my thing. Give me the woods. But, never something like this. No one would have thought. I think it was around 7-8 wall of water pushing its way through. Thanks for the heads up. I agree
