I too feel snow chains work...haven't used on my vehicle...but have seen on vehicles in forward areas
Very surprising that neither Vikas nor the locals tried lowering tyre pressure. Also what is the point in buying a new vehicle which is again a front wheel drive if you are planning adventurous trips??

What police did was right, just because the Atal tunnel is accessible doesn’t mean one go anywhere in such conditions except the locals and professionals with 4x4 who know how to deal with such conditions. The number of increasing tourist in the mountains in such sub zero temperatures with lack of winter driving lessons and inadequate knowledge of surrounding can cause huge jams, car pile up and a headache to locals and authority which can eventually averted by simply not allowing tourist.

Always good to have a nylon rope of specific size for emergency in these kind of conditions or snow wires/chains. That is a basic requirement if a person is coming in this kind of terrain or decrease the air pressure. If there are snow wires/chains, even front wheel drive will go easily.
