Just a very special thank you to those that posted this on RUclips! I grew up in Kirkland (now living in Earlton) and I still love my heritage. No matter where I've been all these years- Kirkland Lake is my home, Thank you so much!
I Also have very fond memories of Kirkland lake!!! My parents were born there and i went every summer to visit my Grand mother and my cousins. This video really does take you back!!! Simpler times!!! Nana would take me once a week to kresges department store on Government rd. For lunch and a banana split👍
had fun exploring the abandoned mines with my cousins and brothers.But glad to be living the good life in Vancouver. fond memories and warm regards to all my family and friends still there.
I was born here and so was my father Ken Wheeldon and my grandparents who owned an island on Lady Evelyn Lake called lady Ellen island, my grandmother was Ellen Wheeldon.
I lived there in the 1960s with my Mum Dad and my sister was born there my Dads name was Roy Fletcher Mum Isobell .My name is Annette my sister Elga Our Dad died in a cave in at the mine along with his friend . We moved back to scotland . But i always remember the wonderful chilhood i had there my sister and i hope to come on holiday very soon .
My dad alsow worked in one of the mines in Kirkland Lake, MaCassa to be exact. He was on the mine rescue and he lost a few of his friends in the mine too. Are you any relation to Hedley Bently? His parents and mine were friends.

I do believe I knew your dad, Did he run the car Dealership up on the hill Just above Kirkland Lake?

Lake Short Mine ?? lol. My dad worked there and its called the Lakeshore Mine.
My Dad worked there too and yes it was Lakeshore - we moved to Wasaga Beach and he built Kirkland Kabins!

There were 21 Hotels/Bars in the early 70s and when I was there I think 19 were active. You could never hit them all and have a drink in one night.
