    Mate, you're so detailed and patient both in your video production and the actual work...really great. An idea for the accumulator line nut thread might be also to use a few rounds of plumbers tape to shore up the tread thickness albeit slightly. Note, I believe that the self levelling fluid reseroir under hood/bonnet is different for the non-fitted car...an easy way to quicky tell a car so fitted. Most cars not having the self-levelling system (swb) have a plastic orb style reservoir with an integral dipstick screw off lid in them, which funnily enough was fitted for a long time to many BMW models as well as on other Euro cars such as the Porsche 944 (one version anyway). This is what might be known as the 'standard' reservoir and holds only the power sterring fluid, logically.

      Thanks for the nice words Aussie BMW! I think you mean teflon tape right? Maybe that would have worked yeah. You're right that the reservoirs are different for the SLS and non-SLS versions. The SLS version is no longer in production.

    Thank you sir for sharing all your knowledge around the SLS on the e 32. This has given me much confidence to tackle my SLS leak which I now believe is coming from the hose you removed.

      Your comment really made me smile, because it's exactly why I created this channel in the first place. By sharing my experiences (good and bad!), E32 owners can see a job done in advance and decide for themselves if it is something they'd like to take on. I hope you succeed in repairing the leak on your SLS system! Good luck :)

    Just an FYI, the SLS rear shocks are no longer available from BMW. The control diaphragm is also NLA as the company that produced these for BMW was bought out by another company that halted production a number of years ago. There is a shop in Poland that can rebuild the seals for these shocks, and it's rumored that the E38 control diaphragm can be modified for use in the E32 but I have never seen this adequately documented anywhere. It should be noted that the E38 uses an air system while the E32 and E34 system use a hydraulic fluid based system.

    Great video! It applies 100% to what I have to to on my 89, 635 CSI that I’ve dreaded replacing these accumulators. Will pre-soak my connectors with WD40 first. Very helpful.

    Your videos are always helpful when I work with my E32. Much appreciated. My car had this system deleted and coilovers installed instead. Harsher ride, but atleat we got rid of that 80's wheel gap :)

      Thanks for your comment :)
      Many people delete the self-leveling system. I can understand why, especially if the shocks are leaking. There aren't many places that can service them, even if it mostly involves replacing o rings and seals. They are NLA from BMW too.
      Coilovers are a good substitute, as long as the car isn't slammed on the ground (not a fan!).

    Thank you for your detailed video. It really helped me to do the same job on my e34 Touring! Luckily mine was not rusty so it all came apart easily. Putting it back together was a different matter, those tiny m6 bolts and nuts on the backside of the flange ...! Only gained access by dropping the exhaust. Extra fitness challenge was doing this outside while it was snowing. No matter it is quite a physical job when the car is on axle stands that I kept nice and warm ;-)

    Thanks for great Video. I don’t have air suspension nor an e32, but still learned a lot from your issues.
    I would have replaced the hoses. Given the time you spent on the work, I would worry of them failing. I don’t think that you can tell the condition of a hose from its flexibility. However, given that it was always garaged, they were probably still good.
    Beautiful auto.

      Thanks, I'm glad you liked the video!
      You're probably right, replacing the hoses would have been a good idea. But it would have added more cost and delivery time. It's a gamble, because it's difficult to know the true condition of an old part. So far they are still OK though.

    Hi Guy,
    Thanks a lot for making and sharing your "tutorial". Absolutely well made and interesting.
    Is this pressure accumulator the same one as for the brakes and servodirection? It really looks like it is.
    Eventually your car will be fully refitted 🤩
    Is your colour Royal Blau or Lazur Blau or ?? My E32 from december 91 is Lazur Blau.
    Btw, are you french speaking? I mean native (Quebec).
    Bonjour de Bruxelles - Belgique.

      Bonjour Jean-Jacques!
      La peinture est de couleur bleu azure comme la vôtre! C'est une couleur magnifique, avec ses teintes de violet.

    Ps future job-replace the petrol tank support straps. They rust at the ends in the middle as they didn’t have great factory protection. They are still available from bmw. Your seem fine but they just suddenly go.

    I remember when Sreten of M539Restorations did his on his E32 which he refers to as project Karlsruhe and I think he said that he had a tough time finding those spherical membrenes and they were not easy to come by. Did you have a tough time finding them in Canada?

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  10 месяцев назад

      I think the accumulator he replaced was the one that is also used for the brakes system. Only the early cars had that version, which explains the rarity of the parts. The "regular" LAD accumulators are still hard to find though. They are manufactured in batches and sell quickly. When I bought mine I had set an alert on eBay and jumped on them as soon as possible.

    • @mds2465
      @mds2465 9 месяцев назад +1

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  Год назад

      Ah really? The supply of the accumulators has been sporadic over the years, so I'm not surprised. If one is determined to keep the SLS system going, it's a good idea to set up alerts on eBay for the part number. Deleting the system is another solution.

      Les roues de 16 pouces "style 61" proviennent d'une 750 de génération E38. J'ai toujours aimé les roues multi-branches de style Alpina. Lorsque j'ai vu une annonce pour 5 roues de E38 en bon état pour 240 dollars Canadiens, j'ai sauté sur l'occasion. Elles sont montées sur des pneus Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 de grandeur 225/55/16.
      Seize pouces est la grandeur idéale (selon moi) pour une E32.

    I may have solved the bonnet insulation missing pads. I’ve found some factory looking material and using double sided tiger tape they should do the job. Send me your email and I will share some photos. I’ve some spare material so can post some out too to Canada. Lee

    Superbe vidéo JF...Très intéressante. J'en apprend à chaque occasion...MAIS quel stress dans les premières minutes !!! Les écrous qui ne cédaient pas, j'étais carrément sur le bout de ma chaise en me disant ''Il va la stripper , il va la stripper'' !!! Je suggère d'ajouter de la musique appropriée lors de ces séquences. J'aurais bien imaginé celle-ci ( pour nous les plus vieux ;)) durant ces moments tendus!!!
    ruclips.net/video/3zGb7tBdadc/видео.html
    LOL !!! Et je n'ai entendu aucun juron, c'est tout à votre honneur...
    Mon conseil sécuritaire: Ne plus utiliser un tuyau de PVC ou ABS pour se donner du levier. Utiliser un tuyau de métal. Un tuyau de plastique qui fend peut causer de sérieuses coupures/blessures. Don't ask how I know ;)...Beau travail !!

    • @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec
      @ClassicBMWFanInQuebec  2 года назад +1

      Merci! C'était en effet assez stressant de composer avec les écrous figés en place. J'étais certain que j'allais "stripper" une fitting ou deux. Finalement ça s'est bien passé, mais j'aurais dû utiliser une clé à ligne de 14mm au lieu d'une clé régulière. Je n'ai pas fait mes devoirs et j'ai oublié d'en acheter une!
      Pour les jurons, lol... je mentirais si je disais que ça ne m'est pas passé par la tête. Mais bon étant religieux (chrétien laïque) je dois préserver le bon standard. La vertue d'abord! :D
      Très bon commentaire à propos du tuyau de PVC/ABS. Je n'y avait même pas pensé, j'ai simplement saisi ce qui était à portée de main. C'est noté pour la prochaine fois. Va falloir que je me procure du tuyuau de métal assez grand pour une clé! Merci de l’interaction.
