Bit of CBX trivia. The engineers on the prototype noticed how jet like the engine sounded, so were inspired to visit the local USAF base, and spent some time recording the jets taking off. They returned to the factory and created an exhaust system that made the engine sound *really* jet like. They took the bike to the test track and invited Soichiro Honda to hear it. He was impressed, and said so, but he regretfully had to tell them it would not be prudent to release the bike with that system. So somewhere on the shelves of Honda R&D is an exhaust system that makes a CBX sound like a jet fighter on afterburner.
Watched “Mike the Bike” riding the RC 166 at Brands Hatch, the banshee screech of that bike at full chat hurt your ears when passing within feet of you…the intro bought back memories of this outstanding piece of engineering…..the 1000 cc road bikes sound tame in comparison
I will never forget the 1st time I heard one either, great my video brought back these memories for you. Obviously the road bikes sound tame in comparison to a 18.000rpm open exhaust race bike, but still the best or at least one of the best road bikes out there, especially with my 6 into 1 Moto Martin exhausts.
@@abcdvideos1 I had a Marshall 6 into 1 on mine and quite often took the baffle out always got thumbs up and claps when bikers were about sounded wicked....especially if in between buildings and sound reverberated.....
Must be an amazing sound with 220hp. I was an European drag racing championships 2 weeks ago, to see some of the nitro bikes fly past, impressive stuff, but not as emotional as a 6 cylinder CBX. Thanks for watching, check out my other videos to see the build of my moto martin CBX1000, more videos to come.
Yes, times, materials and know how has dramatically improved, but if you think of the RC166 with 65hp from a 250cc in the 60's, things were pretty awesome those days as well. Please subscribe to my channel, plenty more CBX videos on there, thanks.
How much did you pay for the original purchase ??? I know it's personal but I'm also looking for one , they are awesome bikes , I have a 1978 750k with 18000 original miles had to go through the carburetors , the oil was a little dirty but the owner had all the documents, needed tires because of dry rot but it runs great now .
Hi Sid, I have seen Martin CBXes change hands for 'more than 20.000 Euro's lately and I did not like them at all, so I would never have paid more than 12.000 Euro's for them, but others would have been worth 16 or 18.000 to me, so all I can say is, the price is right when you are happy paying that for it. I am happy with my bike, so I paid a good price, but as you can imagine, by the time I was done with the restoration, the invested money had almost tripled...... These are rare bikes, the marked has exploded in the last 4-5 years, so the time of bargains are gone, it took me almost 2 years to find one, so good luck with your search.
Thanks for your question. I invested more than double the purchase price in the restoration, so I think that does not matter, when you want a nice Moto Martin CBX you need to invest 15.000 to 20.000 Euro's and it is not how you want it, so for me it was worth the investments, since it is to fully to my liking. Absolutely phenomenal, wonderful job and the video is perfect
Thanks for your compliments & subscription

Fun fact indeed, I would like to have a little shopping spree on the shelves in the R&D offices that says "RC166" on it. 😁
Superb Video Rolf.
Many thanks!

Great video, and really good to see the picture of the mental martin, my friend Paul owns that bike..
Thanks, pretty awesome build as well yes
nothing beats honda quality
indeed, that is why I own 7 Honda's
Nice Video
Thanks
super video sadly had to sell my cbxz last year got too heavy for me , the old age thing come calling .
Sorry to hear that
fun fact 1000cc 4's make over 100% more power now so a modern CBX would be 220hp I'm thinking in mild tune.

@@abcdvideos1 thanks , paid $500 for my 750 but it had been parked in a shed since 1987 so you can imagine the work needed to get it back on the road

@@abcdvideos1 Im just curious about difference in price between stock cbx and moto martin
I would say 30 to 100% more than a CB1, depending on the specifications
Voice over would be good even if robot like racer TV
Thanks, I agree, that is why my later videos all have voice overs now, a lot more work, but better I believe.
What exhaust is that at 2:06?
Good question, the end can looks like the Delkevic one, but the collector area looks home made with checker plate I have the feeling
👍👍👍 👍👍👍 !!!!!!
Thanks
Top Speed Yamaha >> RA31A->V4 -> 1967 >>Two Stroke >> 125cc
