Very impressive solution to both the space and mobility issues! Something we all are always trying to figure out. As you were setting up in the outdoor space, I was thinking a couple 20mm holes in the 90mm strip and a couple mating dowels in the 2x4 might help with set up.

Very nice ideal. I have MFTs x 2 and looking for a way to store them in my small shop a hinge mounted to a cleat on the wall is a great ideal. Already updated the Festool MFT with Dashboard track system.

Excellent work around -I like the fact that you designed and built your own solution. I've just started using a pair of Benchdogs " Rail dogs" . I notice you use a rail square in conjunction with a fence and flag stop (which I also have ) . What do you see as the pros and cons of rail square versus rail dog method? Great video .
Thank you for your kind comments. The downside of the square set up like this Is he amount of time it takes to change the set up to different heights. I do think your percentage of square cuts will be higher with the square though as there is nothing to slip. Regards JP
@@Smallbarnworkshop its interesting to hear your point about accuracy - I have not used the Raildog much but I've been disappointed to some degree - as you suggest, there's quite a few ways to get out of square - loose dog/MFT fitting and movement in the rail . In my work the workpiece thickness doesn't change that much so I suspect the rail square would be better - short of buying a stool MFT with the related extrusions I am toying with the idea of buying the extrusion and rail hinge components as spares to see how it works out - in process of pricing up at the moment - don't think I can justify buying a ready made festool MFT with the rail hinge hardware etc... .

My total respect to you on working within such a confined space. At one point, my only workshop was the patio and I had to haul all the equipment in and out. But that was, at least all ground level whilst you have to contend with ladders and, presumably, stairs. A word of caution - suddenly, over a space of a couple of years, my ability to lift, move and raise larger pieces of timber went from easy to impossible. The solution for you is simple - a lift. Get planning now. I have but one question. How do you accommodate different thicknesses of timber when cutting them square on your new build. I’m guessing that it’s only sheet goods that you need the square for but how to accommodate 3mm, 6mm, 18mm etc - or is it as simple as raising or lowering the dogs in their holes?

It's a fair question. In truth I don't wear one as much as I should, especially when filming. I have the Trend Air helmet which is my main go to when continously cutting / sanding etc.
Yet another beautiful and well explained build. Really helpful for us newbies who have limited workspace, thanks for sharing. Now though I have more items on my jig envy list... Re. the routed T-tracks- love the idea but wondering how durable they are? Until now I've been assuming that I'd have to use aluminium extrusions for precision/durability. On a production note (as opposed to criticism), the music soundtrack in this particular vid is waaay louder than your vocal track, so I have to ride the volume looking at woodwork porn whilst she's asleep... There is loads to learn with this editing malarky. You wouldn't believe the hours of YT videosI I have watch on the subject! (and money I have spend on kit!!) I have had no T groove issues with timber - yet. I bought is to make the T grooves on the router table and that was (maybe) 3 years ago. Hi. It stands for Multifunctional (multifunction) Table. A term I believe Festool dreamt up. Basically a workbench with loads of holes in it (mostly at 96mm centres) so other tooling can be inserted into the holes. Used to clamp and cut things square or at 45 degreees. The origin is based in engineering. Google around you will find lots (probably too much) informations and why 96mm - at all centres around 32mm modules and dates back (I believe) to German war time engineering. Regards JP

It is a good question. I guess it's a RUclips thing. Personally I like the music it fills the gaps and everyone knows what a saw sounds like etc... Your not a fan of music generally in videos?

Crazy that the Parf System kit is £200 on top of the cost of buying whatever material you need to make holes in, especially when you consider that you can buy pre-CNC made tops online for about £60-80 inc delivery. £200 + sheet of material + time spent learning and using said guide system seems like time/money not well spent. Each to their own.

The looks dead handy! I'm currently torn between the Benchdogs stuff and the UJK fence system for Axminster.
Other than this jig I've not tried any of Axminster's dogs. The Bench dog quality is top notch though.

The square is adjustable. From zero to 50mm thickness. I have it set at 21mm as I mostly use inch by xxx timber. Regards JP
