    Excellent work around -I like the fact that you designed and built your own solution. I've just started using a pair of Benchdogs " Rail dogs" . I notice you use a rail square in conjunction with a fence and flag stop (which I also have ) . What do you see as the pros and cons of rail square versus rail dog method? Great video .

    • @Smallbarnworkshop
      @Smallbarnworkshop  3 года назад

      Thank you for your kind comments. The downside of the square set up like this Is he amount of time it takes to change the set up to different heights. I do think your percentage of square cuts will be higher with the square though as there is nothing to slip. Regards JP

    • @PrimaryInt
      @PrimaryInt 3 года назад

      @@Smallbarnworkshop its interesting to hear your point about accuracy - I have not used the Raildog much but I've been disappointed to some degree - as you suggest, there's quite a few ways to get out of square - loose dog/MFT fitting and movement in the rail . In my work the workpiece thickness doesn't change that much so I suspect the rail square would be better - short of buying a stool MFT with the related extrusions I am toying with the idea of buying the extrusion and rail hinge components as spares to see how it works out - in process of pricing up at the moment - don't think I can justify buying a ready made festool MFT with the rail hinge hardware etc... .

    My total respect to you on working within such a confined space. At one point, my only workshop was the patio and I had to haul all the equipment in and out. But that was, at least all ground level whilst you have to contend with ladders and, presumably, stairs. A word of caution - suddenly, over a space of a couple of years, my ability to lift, move and raise larger pieces of timber went from easy to impossible. The solution for you is simple - a lift. Get planning now.
    I have but one question. How do you accommodate different thicknesses of timber when cutting them square on your new build. I’m guessing that it’s only sheet goods that you need the square for but how to accommodate 3mm, 6mm, 18mm etc - or is it as simple as raising or lowering the dogs in their holes?

    • @Smallbarnworkshop
      @Smallbarnworkshop  2 года назад

    Re. the routed T-tracks- love the idea but wondering how durable they are? Until now I've been assuming that I'd have to use aluminium extrusions for precision/durability.
    On a production note (as opposed to criticism), the music soundtrack in this particular vid is waaay louder than your vocal track, so I have to ride the volume looking at woodwork porn whilst she's asleep...

      I have had no T groove issues with timber - yet. I bought is to make the T grooves on the router table and that was (maybe) 3 years ago. I do have an aluminium section, it has been in storage for a while, but will be featuring in (possibly) the video I shoot this weekend.

Basically a workbench with loads of holes in it (mostly at 96mm centres) so other tooling can be inserted into the holes. Used to clamp and cut things square or at 45 degreees. The origin is based in engineering. Google around you will find lots (probably too much) informations and why 96mm - at all centres around 32mm modules and dates back (I believe) to German war time engineering. Regards JP

    Wow, you have no dust extraction and are wearing no mask. I suppose you don't intend to live long. Best of luck. 👍

    This is, I understand, intended to be a woodworking instructional video, not a music video. Let's have woodworking, not music.

      Hi. Few people have said the same. I’m trying to learn editing and on this occasion I got my mixing wrong. Interestingly, this video has my longest view hours and most new subs . Regards JP

      Interestingly, If I turn the sound loud enough to hear you speak, the music is abhorrently, translation offensively loud.... @@Smallbarnworkshop

    Nice project which I'd like to copy - but get rid of the bloody music. It's at three times the volume of the spoken parts and got sick of having to whip the volume control up and down.

      Thanks. I cannot amend the video now its on RUclips. At over 60k views it is my most popular. There is no music on new videos. Regards JP
