Hundred percent 👍... I've only started to teach myself since last lockdown and the guess work involved in trying to figure out where to position my fingers was definitely the most frustrating part. I will be returning to this channels videos again for future practice 😁
I totally agree with you on this point. Whilst I've taken good advice from around the internet on many aspects of finger picking, I'd not heard the definition of seeing a triangle between the fingers and thumb. Excellent advice and shown from the correct perspective to understand too. Bravo.

What an excellent guitar lesson - close up camera angles I've never seen before and play along speeds from slow to fast, beginning to end, and all with a metronome background - fantastic Tristan, thankyou so much.
THE BEST yet for a total beginner never picking up a guitar. The angle and repeats, the rest on RUclips says beginner but they are all rock stars, 800 mph can’t even understand.thank you for this.

There's probably more instruments - but at 79, who cannot forgive me for a receding memory? Oh, I just subbed - the publisher gave me no choice whatsoever.
Thanks so much. I’ve been working on Travis Picking for about a year now. This really is a simple, but effective song to do Travis Picking. I had tremors in both hands, but I had a new procedure called focused ultrasound which seared a specific point in the brain and now my left hand is tremor free and I can deal with the right hand so I’m able to play again. This song is great therapy.
It seems I've been trying to learn Travis picking from YT different 'instructors' for a while now. I don't need a history lesson on who invented Travis picking, or trying to be funny or entertaining. What I need is to actually see what the picking fingers are doing relative to the neck hand position. Your camera angles and style of teaching are the best I've found so far. So, I thank you for that!
Thanks much Tristan.... Your teaching method and the angled video to show all is just Great... And Thank you for taking the time and patience to help us beginners.... I hope you will continue to produce videos to help others, like myself, get started into Travis Picking... Thanks again...

That was wonderful! I just started trying to learn the guitar about three weeks ago (I’m 63). The finger pattern you demonstrated seems easy to me but I’m thinking it’s because I took banjo lessons for a year when I was 20 so holding my hand the way you showed must have been imprinted on my 20 year old brain and is still stuck in there somewhere (in my now, old brain). - I love the way you filmed this so one can see exactly what you’re doing. I wish you would do more videos. Hint, hint…the Ah Ha song, “Take on me”.
Teaching is a skill, it's not about how much information is being given but how much is being understood. This explains why there are so many teachers but only a few skilled unique teachers. Thank you sir for being inspiring and helping others to learn about one of the musical legends.
I agree your method of teaching is perfect for beginners for which I still consider myself- playing at the guitar, on/off, here/there, for more than 40 yrs and as rigid as ever when attempting to learn new stuff. If Mr Rogers had taught guitar on channel 10 back in the day this is exactly how he would present- we'd be blessed to have more like him, like you. 24:36

Thank you so much for this lesson. I've had the sheet music for Dust in the Wind in my guitar case for 40 years and never could get the correct finger picking pattern to make it sound correct. I stopped playing 15 years ago when I could no longer see the sheet music from a distance. You've inspired me to re-learn the guitar and give it another try. My fingers are screaming already since the callouses are long gone but it will be good for me in the long run.
Tristan spot on with your camera angles, finger positions, and use of the metronome to help gage when learned all the steps to sound really good. Very patient method of explaining and helping your students build confidence.
Finally a guitar teacher with the correct camera angles to easily see what fingers are hitting which strings.
