I totally agree with you on this point. Whilst I've taken good advice from around the internet on many aspects of finger picking, I'd not heard the definition of seeing a triangle between the fingers and thumb. Excellent advice and shown from the correct perspective to understand too. Bravo.

I'm now 79 (Imperial, not Metric) years old and still going strong with a dozen or so harmonicas ("Blues harps"), 16 tinwhisles, 3 native American flutes, one Peruvian "Quena", 5 guitars, 2 violins (which magically become "Fiddles" when I play them barefooted), and two keyboards. There's probably more instruments - but at 79, who cannot forgive me for a receding memory?
Oh, I just subbed - the publisher gave me no choice whatsoever.

Thanks so much. I’ve been working on Travis Picking for about a year now. This really is a simple, but effective song to do Travis Picking. I had tremors in both hands, but I had a new procedure called focused ultrasound which seared a specific point in the brain and now my left hand is tremor free and I can deal with the right hand so I’m able to play again. This song is great therapy.

It seems I've been trying to learn Travis picking from YT different 'instructors' for a while now. I don't need a history lesson on who invented Travis picking, or trying to be funny or entertaining. What I need is to actually see what the picking fingers are doing relative to the neck hand position. Your camera angles and style of teaching are the best I've found so far. So, I thank you for that!

That was wonderful! I just started trying to learn the guitar about three weeks ago (I’m 63). The finger pattern you demonstrated seems easy to me but I’m thinking it’s because I took banjo lessons for a year when I was 20 so holding my hand the way you showed must have been imprinted on my 20 year old brain and is still stuck in there somewhere (in my now, old brain). - I love the way you filmed this so one can see exactly what you’re doing.
I wish you would do more videos. Hint, hint…the Ah Ha song, “Take on me”.

You ever played the song Under the Bridge by the Chili Peppers?
I love Kansas and Dust in the Wind and as someone who was a kid in the 80’s and 90’s I love music from the greatest 3 decades ‘65-‘95 which in my opinion created at least 95% of the greatest music ever produced.
Anyway, when you were going through the lesson, at times I kept hearing parts of the Chili Peppers song, which I live too.
Thought you may like to play it if you haven’t already. 🤙🏻

Thank you for this. I have been practicing along with the video every day for almost a month. I still have to get faster, but I have made a lot of progress. Your teaching method is the best I have seen on RUclips.

Thank you so much for this lesson. I've had the sheet music for Dust in the Wind in my guitar case for 40 years and never could get the correct finger picking pattern to make it sound correct. I stopped playing 15 years ago when I could no longer see the sheet music from a distance. You've inspired me to re-learn the guitar and give it another try. My fingers are screaming already since the callouses are long gone but it will be good for me in the long run.

Tristan spot on with your camera angles, finger positions, and use of the metronome to help gage when learned all the steps to sound really good. Very patient method of explaining and helping your students build confidence.
