She performs for her Church every year...and I think , the Xmas songs she does....don't need the vocal aerobics that she is capable of. To her its embracing the meanings and worshipping is all she wishes to do. You'll also see this same pure performance in her , Could You Be Messiah....a cover of the Revived 90's theatrical production called ""First Name, Anew""
Absolutely love this version of Oh Holy Night... stripped down, nothing fancy. It feels a lot more like a worship, an angel singing to us... "Fall on your knees... oh hear the angel's voices..." "Christ is the Lord" whew! Goosies everywhere... felt like my soul was cleansed. LOL Love love Mori and the nice reaction. Merry Christmas!

Mori's version reminds me of the Bob Dylan song: Knocking On Heaven's Door. If you want Anybody upstairs to hear you, this is how! And that setting, the light from the background that resembles stars up in the heavens. Whew, even the angels will stop in their tracks with this one!

My favorite version of 'O Holy Night' by far. Initially took me a few listens when it was released a few years back, simply because it was diferent. But been my favorite ever since. For context Morissette have previously performed the living daylight out of the Mariah Carey shortened/pop version many times. This different version with the full verses really reflect both her maturation as well as faith. Love it to bits.
When you heard this version you can feel that Morisette sending you not only to the church but also in heaven cause of ending goosebumps. Super!!! Thanks for always reacting to Mori's songs😍🥰

Hi Marc, a sub here from vegas. I know you love theatrical performances so may I suggest morissette’s “Could you be Messiah” a truly raw and pure performance by morissette shot in black and white. This song is part of a Philippine musical. Please take the one take version shot by her husband. Also, morissette has her owm Disney song now called “ Imagine More” produced for Disney + Philippines. There is a live version called The Night Of Wonder” consisting of a 2 duet songs and a last solo of morissete for “ Imagine More”

Flawless performance. An excellent choice. Wow! Tis the season. Such an innocent voice with a straight tone and a natural vibrato was immaculate. Her phrasing was executed so well. Wasn’t over done with too many dramatic changes. Heartfelt and beautiful. She kept it simple without the fireworks. You are right, a special performance. Merry Christmas
i think the choice of range for this performance places it in the "worship" category and is perfect for the church scenario. a fantastic performance. if you haven't you should check out her "Could you be Messiah" vid. another worship focussed performance and it is tear inducing

Actually, She sang "Oh holy night" mariah carey version too..
A soulful rendetion that makes me speechless for she really feels the message and meaning of the song that you will be carried away where angels lives with Our Almighty and praying with her while she is singing the song. Too speechless snd emotional.
I see her reverence and faith for the sacrifice of our lord in the first part . Then Mori gives our thanks and and praise in a celebration of the love that was given to us humans in the finale.

I love this even more than the versions with crazy high and whistle notes because as you said, she was being true to the text and to how it means to her personally.

I believe this is Hillsong Church version, arrangement by , Michael Guy Chislett & Dylan Thomas. She does the other Mariah version, as well, but she doesn't need the whistles or growls here.... Favor Church is where her and Dave belong, and every year , performs in their Christmas concert. She is preaching more than singing in this...as you said, this is LIFE to her and Dave, who are Christians. Great reaction....and hope you made it thru the snow and nippy temps, in the past week. This was fantastic! She definitely has the voice for this song. Personally, for me though I will always rate David Phelps singing this song #1 and Josh Groban my #2 choice :) Should do a comparison video :D

Great reaction Marc as always. Mori is so incredibly talented. I do recommend you give Katrina Velarde’s amazing One Take Cover of this song. With rudimentary equipment Katrina’s voice still soars. Kat plays this cover straight which you will appreciate (although the end is pure Katrina in the best way). I enjoy watching your content & sensible analysis. My 1-2 or 2-1 favorite singers are Morissette & Katrina Velarde. Both are high up there in vocal levels. Not to compare & rate, please watch the young Katrina Velarde's cover of "O Holy Night", in a one-take cover" when she was still learning to record herself on a laptop.
