I remember in about 2006/2007 when you uploaded a video you could manually type the upload date to whatever you wanted as long as it wasn't a date that hadn't been yet.
I believe you're thinking of the "Recorded Date". It's a feature that still withstands today and it doesn't affect the upload date. And especially not the channel creation date.
I may have found out how it is from 2004: They made their RUclips channel in 2010 to allow people to have a platform and get their story on the It gets better project but after a few days they had reached 600 videos that people had sent but there was some sort of cap on the amount of videos you can upload. So a google employee backdated the youtube account to 2004 which allowed them to post 5,000 videos. So it seems like there is a capacity on the amount of videos a user can post on an account depending on what year you created the account, not sure if this is still a thing though

RUclips set that date because in the beginning of the project the founders (Dan and Terry) let people send in their vids, instead of uploading them and using a hashtag. when the limit at the time was 600 videos was hit, RUclips set it to 2004 so that they could upload more vids.

What if the channel was a test channel made by a dev back in 16 of September 2004 but then was given to the “It gets better” organisation. Possibly by a friend that made the channel or the person who made it, used it as the channel or something?
There might be a channel "created" on 1jan 1970/31 dec 1969 (depening on your timezone) that accidently got its creation date set to 0 unix time due to som weird glitch.
My theory is that when developers were working on youtube when it wasn't released yet, they created a test account in 2004 and it didnt get deleted so they gave it to this company or whatever to use it
1. Google account starts at 2004+, RUclips starts at 2005+. 2. Later Google buy RUclips. 3. Now your RUclips date is same date with Google account. 4. So, if you had google account in 2004+, later on (for example in 2005+) you registered RUclips with this account, after Google buy RUclips and then fixed together the system, your account created date will be fixed to 2004+ just same as your google account date. 5. Google won’t leave the same glitch not fixed for 15+ years, even RUclips bug/glitch they would had fixed during the 15+ years.
I used to have an account with the same username as this one but without the 2 in it and I posted my first video in that account around 7 months after I made that account.

Hey I know the answer to this, I guess, the date that we see is when the Google account created, not the channel , they might have a Google account back in 2004 and that's why it's showing 2004, the same happened to me, the day I created my account was 28 Dec 2016 (when I got my first phone on my birthday), I remember making it, and the day I created and uploaded my first video was 18 Jan 2017, I created the cannel on that day, but it still shows in the about section that I joined on 28 Dec 2016 I am not shue tho but this should be the reason for that, I am not shue that you could make a Google account back in 2004 ( I was not even born), that's all I know, this should be the reason

Hey I know the answer to this, I guess, the date that we see is when the Google account created, not the channel , they might have a Google account back in 2004 and that's why it's showing 2004, the same happened to me, the day I created my account was 28 Dec 2016 (when I got my first phone on my birthday), I remember making it, and the day I created and uploaded my first video was 18 Jan 2017, I created the cannel on that day, but it still shows in the about section that I joined on 28 Dec 2016
I am not shue tho but this should be the reason for that, I am not shue that you could make a Google account back in 2004 ( I was not even born), that's all I know, this should be the reason

If you think that’s crazy. There was a video that premiered in 1969. For over 50 years that was premiering. Idk if this is true or not.

I think it’s because it says project so it might have been a thing RUclips tested before actually making it a thing
