The song was recorded with the stutter as a joke on his brother who did have a stutter. They recorded it without the stutter and the producers liked the "joke" version better so that's the one that was released, and it was a hit!
how come Its taken me 48 years to find this out... I knew he was meaning to do it but ...that's awesome.... they were still banging away just recently too...not sure exactly how long ago but they still got it...or had it not too long ago
🔥🔥🔥🔥 "Bachman wasn't planning to release the song with the stuttering vocal. He sang it with the stutter to poke fun at his brother Gary, who had a speech impediment. "
Prior to being in BTO Randy Bachman was a part of a band called The Guess Who. They had a number of hits including No Sugar Tonight and American Woman. Love your reactions. Thanks for always being entertaining!
Back to high school here guys. Great song, great album and great band. The seventies were just so awesome. By the way Randy Bachman, the lead singer, also played in another Canadian band called The Guess Who.
Randy Bachman is still touring. His guitar was stolen in 1976 and was found last winter in Japan. He is going to Japan on June 16th to get it back from the person who bought it not knowing it had been stolen. The return of the guitar will happen at the Canadian Embassy where he will perform.
Randy Bachman wrote the song to pull a prank on his brother who is a stutterer. It was never meant to be released.. and look at it now. It became a number 1 hit in 22 countries.
Vale Robbie Bachman Robbie passed away a few days ago. aged 69 Robbie was BTO's Drummer during their 'heyday' in the 70's. He played on all their Hit songs and albums. BTO were a great Band and Robbie was a great Drummer. RIP mate.
He is doing it on purpose and made the song unique. If this one sounds familiar, then check out "Taking care of business" That is a classic for sure. Great Canadian rock.
Their song "Taking Care of Business" (another one you've undoubtedly heard parts of) didn't originally include a piano as part of the song. That was unexpectedly supplied by the guy who delivered pizza to their recording studio.
The Bachman brothers are from my home town of Winnipeg, Manitoba,. One brother Garry had a terrible stutter. Randy wrote the song as a tease, saying it would be on their next album. They didn’t record it, but used it as a warm up song in the studio . They were short one song on their album, they were working on. Their manager suggested this one without the stutter, It didn’t sound as good so they recorded it with the stutter. Try their “Taking Care of Business “ and “ Let it Roll “
Bachman Turner Overdrive did everything from pop to heavy hard rock to jazz!Great music from great band! Got to see them back in the 80s and it was such a great show!
@@JeanPaillard-to1hx OMG, you don't know how you blew my mind! I read your message and i thought that can't be right, but I checked and it was. But something was nagging at my brain. Now BTO was a group that I liked as a singles band, but I didn't have any albums, nor did I know everything about them like the Beatles, Stones, etc. where I know everything about them. But I went back to one of their vids and I looked stunned because the lead guitar guy was the one I thought it was and then it hit me. You mean the only two guys that look like each other aren't brothers? The 3 guys that don't look at all alike are brothers - maybe from different mothers. Thanks for fixing a misconception I have had for years.
@@gs8191 No sweat, it's OK. I'm 74 and in the late sixties I bought all of the Guess Who albums where I discovered Randy Bachman. In the early seventies, Randy left the group and was the creator of BTO and of course every time a new album came out, I bought them also. These musicians were about my age and had become major icons right from the start. Their music was everywhere to be heard and to be honest, was still being heard in many tours they did until not very long ago. My very favorite song from BTO has ALWAYS been Fred Turner's amazing composition BLUE COLLAR which flowed like liquid gold and because of the impressive collective instrumentation and especially Fred's voice and perfect pitch. Fred was such a really cool and likable guy. But let's not forget that the music from the seventies was and will remain the ultimate ''TOP NOTCH'' of the music scene when many international groups, some of which overlapped the sixties and the seventies were just out of this world. Thankfully, the list is LOOOOOOONG. If ever a new era of the sort reappears, I will be long gone, AGES long gone. The actual genres are total wrecks.
@@gs8191 I just realized that I made a boo boo while describing the group's composition where I mentioned TIM Bachman from the top of my head. The guy is Blair Thornton and I should have known better. Old age I guess.
He doesn't have a stuttering problem.artistic choice. However, I've heard there are many singers who have stuttering problems....unless they are singing.
That's right because you sing and speak using slightly different regions of the brain. Same reason a lot of British singers lose a lot of their British accent when singing vs speaking....
Randy Bachman was from Winnipeg. It was also the home town for the other members of the Guess Who and the Crash Test Dummies (MMMMM). An up and coming artist from the Winnipeg area is Faouzia who was raised in Carman, about an hours drive outside Winnipeg. She had a big hit with "Minefields" featuring John Legend and her current hit is RIP, Love though I must admit I like the video for "Puppet" better. It has a Tim Burton vibe to it. edited to mention that Neil Young was buddies with Bachman and Cummings when he lived in Winnipeg.
Randy was also in a band before he started this one called The Guess Who with the lead singer Burton cummins another great band you might want to check out as well a great catalog nice job good reaction BTO didn't have a lot of songs but they had a couple of good ones Keep spreading the music around.

The singer (and guitarist, songwriter) Randy Bachman was previously a member of The Guess Who. This song reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, as did "American Woman" with The Guess Who. The only other artist to reach #1 on the Hot 100 with two different groups was Paul McCartney, who had multiple #1s with The Beatles, a #1 as a duet with his wife, Linda McCartney ("Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"), six #1s with Wings ("Band on the Run," et al), and two duets with Michael Jackson ("Ebony and Ivory," "Say Say Say").

BTO were discovered on a Canadian iceberg by Sheena Easton. She donated her song 'You Have Not Been Seeing Much At All Today' but they tinkered with it till it morphed in to the classic we know today. The stuttering was due to the freezing ice below their tootsies.

Yeah, I think No Sugar Tonight/New Mother Nature (studio version) is the Guess Who's best song. Let it Ride for Bachman Turner.
guess who bandmate burton cummings had a soft ballad version of this song, haha.
1978 , every hockey rink in Canada had this whole album thumping through the house cassette deck during public skating.
Good times.
I’m not from Canada and don’t play hockey but somehow I lived the exact same 1978.

BTO - came out when I was starting high school. Awesome, awesome group. And your smiles show it.
I saw Bachman-Turner Overdrive in 1974! It was my first concert and they ROCKED! The opening act was a very young Bob Segar!!
Ah! That must have been so freaking awesome. I am totally jealous! I never to see them live but they are truly one of my favorite bands ever!
For some reason everyone spells his name wrong. But sounds like a great show. Its Seger.

He sang it that way to poke fun at his brother, who stuttered, Everyone loved that version and they left it in.
When this tune came out....in junior high the cheerleaders would do their routine to this song at basketball games.

Great group! Definitely need to hit Takin’ Care of Business, a real banger. Also, Let It Ride. Both BTO classics.
The drummer, bass player and guitarist/lead singer are the Bachman brothers. 3 Bachmans and 1 Turner on lead guitar.
Nope. Randy Bachman alternating lead and rhythm, Robbie Bachman on drums, Tim Bachman alternating lead and rhythm, along with Fred Turner at the base.
