    I feel like a big reason as to why fakemon get so popular is because we're literally spoon-fed every little piece of information about their creation.
    Most real pokémon you normally just see in leaks or playing by the games obviously aren't provided all of that previous context so you just have to figure out for yourself.
    It makes the times Game Freak devs actually speak on a pokémon's origins all the more valuable!

    • @vinnyvanhoe5614
      @vinnyvanhoe5614 4 месяца назад +8

      Thats one of the most worst reasons I've heard. Maybe thats true for you. Do you think most people have that level of tism? No. They see a design they like better than official ones. That simple. Gamefreak has been pumping out steaming garbage designs and everyone sees it if they are willing to admit it or not

    • @wyvernknight
      @wyvernknight 4 месяца назад +49

      @@vinnyvanhoe5614 No..? If you were to see something jarring or lackluster in a design, it might feel a little off. But then you research the origin of the fakemon or pokemon and learn why that aspect of the design is there, and you gain respect (for a lack of a better word) for the design. There are definitely some Pokemon that are just what they are, but even some Pokemon that are well received are just what they are, Tyranitar is a pretty blatant Godzilla ripoff, but it’s still really cool and I know it’s some people’s favorite Pokemon. Even the simple designs are charming in some ways, I’ve always thought Flamigo is just silly and charming.
      And btw, you can’t just call people autistic, especially just because they don’t have the same opinion as you.

    The thing I'd say that's holding the electric panda back is that there's just a plug coming out of its tail. It's not stylized or incorporated into the design like the Pikachu line or Elekid. You see that with a lot of Fakemon, they'll just have a random design element coming off of or as an appendage without any thought to why it's there other than, "I needed a way to convey the typing."

    • @SaltySeaStella

    When I was a kid my dad saw cryogonal and called it a robot. I’ll admit it was amusingly accurate.
    Although I actually like its design quite a bit for some reason.
    Might be because I enjoy floating alien looking creatures like it and minior.
    While Kipine has a more emotive design, I actually prefer keeping cryogonal’s more sharp and appearance to be a “dangerous ally” if you will.
    So if anyone makes another snowflake Pokémon or a direct redesign, maybe look at Pokémon like Solrock that have very little to emote but are still interesting.
    That’s my take at least.

    • @alwaysneru
      @alwaysneru 4 месяца назад +9

      I've always been a sucker for stoic Pokémon like Lunatone and Solrock as well who look like they'd strike their opponents without much emotion! Minior is amazing to me, as well as Elgyem, Baltoy, Shedinja, ect. The idea of Pokémon like Chansey or Dragonite being highly socialable and having human-like emotional capacity makes me appreciate Pokémon like Glalie and Crygonal all the more, for their terrifying animalistic and more instinctive based natures. I wish Pokémon would add deeper and more detailed descriptions of the biology of their Pokémon (in-game that is). So many cool Poké's who don't get enough love because their designs are a bit experimental hehe

    • @blankcanvas3358
      @blankcanvas3358 4 месяца назад +6

      Now that you mention it, that’s probably why I loved Elgyem so much in the anime. Someone tried to better understand it and they bonded through that, whether they could confirm its alien origin or not.
      And then in the same region series they had the Beeheeyem invasion and a UFO which was completely disconnected from those two characters. ಠ_ಠ
      Pokémon lore gets out of wack sometimes.

      Tbh, I think a couple of these could benefit just from... Readability let's say. Mousehold would look better if it wasn't as subtle, which the fakemon does while adding cute details, scorvillain's heads are kinda fine but the body just loses it, which I think the fake does pick up (tho itself could use some less... Confusion I'll say). I think just using less colors of metal and making the face a bit clearer could do wonders for cryogonal

    You are my absolute favorite poketuber, for real, and this video is exactly why
    While you can agree that some designs could have been better executed, you still appreciate the authenticity of Game Freak's designs, the fact that they came up with those concepts first, and in general you understand that before criticizing a design, you should really analyze what's behind that design, the lore, what inspired poke designers, etc
    I hate when people criticize new designs because "they are just objects" or "there are a lot of frog/rat/bird pokemon" but still, GameFreak is able to create new, iconic designs with these old concepts. Oh hell, the object pokemon? People criticize them and don't notice just how creative you gotta be to make a keyring or a minecart look alive, or to come up with a ghost-sand castle design that works. And the effort they put into the names, the lore of the pokemon, to make them interact with each other and with the region
    And I feel like you are truly the only poketuber that fully appreciate pokemon you know? That can appreciate every little detail, and appreciate even the flaws, because you as an artist also understand the difficulty to come up with creative, new concepts that work

    I love making Fakémon and especially etymology. I’ve made 43 in my life so far and every single one is different and does its own thing in its own unique way. If I were to give other people 1 piece of advice, it would be to think of a name earlier on than after you’ve designed it, since it’s way easier to make a design when you have a name for it, at least in my opinion. The first time I did this, I realised I was happier with how it turned out and how well it fit with the concept.

    The issue with sawk and throh is they was originally based on the red and blue oni from Japan. They had demonic horns and traditional oni outfits however when they was going to make the mons they changed the idea a bit fearing that people in some countries like the west would push for them to be changed due to the oni or demonic nature so they lost the horns and gave them the marshal art outfits while keeping the red and blue coloring to symbolize what they was originally. One thin I love about pokemon designs is that there’s a pokemon for everyone. They’re not all badass, they’re not all cutesie, they’re not all edgy, nor cutesie. There’s a concept for each. This causes a lot of disappointment for a lot of people: “Ohh I wanted a dolphin superhero that was badass, not kinda goofy!’
    But that’s where fakemon come in, and why I love them. They fill niches that the real things do not, and that doesn’t mean Gamefreak does a bad job! It’s just that the possibilities are, literally, endless. Fakemons aren’t better, and Pokemon aren’t better either! They’re niches that try to encapsulate everyone, and that’s the joy of it.

I especially love Silverara's Volpan, it is an absolute favorite of mine and I wish it were a real pokemon and it would fit perfectly in a China based region. Plenty of your fakemon are very good too!

    Probs an obvious one but I have always preferred Uranium's take on the Dunsparce evolution 'Dunseraph' over the colossal disappointment that was dundunsparce. Also had found some fanmade designs that I preferred over the official like a fanmade evolution line for Popplio that learned more heavily into the circus aesthetic.

    This is so cool, I think it's fascinating how much Pokémon fans love Pokémon, that they're willing to create entirely new creatures and games out of passion for the series. Rarely do video games have fanbases with this level of dedicated fan creations, I can only think of Skyrim and The Sims. Also - I think one of the most difficult parts of designing Fakémon are having them actually read as Pokémon. Even though these are fan creations, some of the designs are essentially held back because they don't really assimilate well into the world of Pokémon, not because they're bad designs. That being said, all of these designs are cool and valuable in their own respect. I think Toucusky's design was the most authentic but Kipine and Cymurk are my favourite concepts here

    If Pawmot had a regional variant, I think they should do a design based on doctors and nurses, since them using paws to deliver electric shocks are based on defibrillators in the hospitals and they have a move called Revival Blessing.
    And the typing could be Electric/Fairy. I think this would be great for a regional variant, making them take a slight role of how Blisseys quickly rush to a trainer if they got hurt and help them out, kinda like what happened in Legends Arceus.
    I love Pawmot, and I think it’s official design is neat, especially since the arms reminds me of the sleeves on a baggy sweatshirt or hoodie, but I get why not many fans are crazy about how Pawmot turned out, but the Electric/Fighting typing more than makes up for that one flaw,
    As for the Fairy typing and why I chose that, I’d like to think that a Fairy type Pokémon would be perfect, since a couple moves have a healing move.
    The regional variant Pawmit could be like an assistant Pokemon to a doctor or nurse that tends to both Pokemon and humans, and this Pawmot would especially useful for a traveling trainer, like a living first aid kit.
    Might have to sketch some designs now that I typed this out!

    Among my own fakemon that I came up with that now have official pokemon based on the same concept-
    I have Quartzap, an electric/rock lodestone fakemon that evolves into Lodestorm, and then evolves again into a gem fakemon called Thundiamond.
    A pumpkin fakemon called Jacturn that evolves into a Grass/Fire fakemon with a burning pumpkin head and a slender viney body called Hallowraith.
    A gold coin called Mimicoin that evolves into a treasure chest mimic called Chaochest, with an Ambush form and Attack form.
    a Water-type grub called Grubble that evolves into a Water/Bug diving bell spider Spidefend and Spidiver.
    and a snowy koala called Snoala.

    Can't agree with Palossand, Garbodor, Brambleghast, and Toucannon.
    Palossand is an amazing concept on its own, a _ghost_ that possesses a child's sandcastle-making tools. In lore, it functions almost as a mimic, or pitfall trap, sucking in unaware Pokemon into a whirlpool of sand to... well, consume them. The little shovel being a sort of ghostly radar on its head is a nice touch, and I love how you can see through Sandyghast's "mouth." It's such a novel idea for a sand castle Pokemon, I think making it a more generic "living sand monster" takes away from its creativity.
    Garbodor _could_ be better, but I think the "heap of trash" design Gamefreak went with is infinitely more charming than the "toxic sludge/sewers" design many fan re-designs go for. Also... THAT FACE. It's so cuuuuute! I wish Garbodor had more identifiable pieces of trash sticking out from its body, actually. We already have a toxic sludge Pokemon in the form of Muk, so a trash bag 'mon was a novel and funny idea that too many people hated just for being kinda ugly (which is fine, not every Pokemon has to be elegant or cool).
    Brambleghast is just... perfect, imo. It's so weird and unexpected, so _unlike_ most Pokemon, that I actually like it more. The Fakemon you showed off look more like what I would _expect_ from Gamefreak if I heard "tumbleweed Pokemon," making them _less_ interesting. I _love_ how Brambleghast is completely hollow with little seeds for eyes. Mwah. Perfection.
    Toucannon is just an _awesome_ design. No offense, but this was one of the ones that really made me go, "Huh?" when you showed the "better" Fakemon. That Fakemon is a completely generic bird Pokemon design, and furthermore looks nothing like a toucan at all. Toucannon fits the tropical themes of Alola _much_ better, AND its bill looking like a temperature scale (and having a signature move that inflicts Burn) is an excellent nod to the biology of real toucans - which is that they expel most of their body heat through their bill, making it hot to the touch!
    The real winners of your list are Scyther and Mightyena's substitutes. Those are just amazing.

      @bugjams 4 месяца назад

      @@wegs1756 This is like complaining that you're getting a fancy cake and one slightly-less fancy cake. If it could be liked as a single-stage, that means each design is good, right?
      I think it changes enough. Plenty of mons evolve to not look much different. It gets a lot thornier, has crests around the eyes - which are now 2 different colors - and gets a sort of "toothy grin" under the eyes.
      I mean what would you want out of an evolution? People complain about mons that don't change much, or just add more of the same thing (like Diglett), but I think that would've been a hilarious idea for an evolution. Just a pile of Bramblin stuck together, which is a real phomenon (and pain in the ass for farmers in the mid-west).
