  • I replaced my over 40 year old Beach Machinist tool chest with a new Kennedy 3611 Top and Kennedy 5150 Mid Chest combo. I fabricated an aluminum strip so I could make a lip on my Husky work bench and keep these from sliding off.
There seem to be some mixed reviews on the quality of these Kennedy tool boxes. For me, it is very hard to find a similar tool chest with a lot of small drawers for your delicate machinist tools. Overall I am happy with the quality of these Kennedy boxes. There are two drawers that are a little sticky, I am hoping they break in over time.
I purchased both of these boxes from Zoro.com. Zoro sends 20% off coupons on a regular basis and they worked for these Kennedy chests, plus the Zoro price was already much better than anywhere else I saw. They are still expensive but worth it to me for the extra space I gained.
My entire machine shop is carefully placed inside a one bay garage space, so I am always looking to maximize my organization and storage of everything. These Kennedy boxes do a nice job of storing all my machinist tools.
    Thanks for watching!

I paid full price for these tool chests and I am not sponsored by any companies at this time.

After I got into machining a few years ago, my boss told me his dad was an engineer for NASA and worked on Apollo 13. He gave me a whole bunch of machining tools, including an old Kennedy tool box. He had a garage full of machining stuff, but he never learned, so he gave me everything. He had buckets full of drill bits and end mills. He told me that at NASA back then, they would use a drill bit to drill 1 hole, then throw it away. Same with endmills, one use, then discarded. It was the standard rule back then, not sure now. Now I got more machining stuff that I could ever need. The one thing he couldn't give me was a cool portable mini lathe that you can take with you anywhere.

kennedy makes three or four different lines of tool boxes. A couple lines have ball bearing slides. For service or fleet mechanics. Prices are very reasonable compared to the tool truck guys. 👍 I’ll be buying a couple Kennedy boxes very soon.

@user-qp3eb4pm1zfatcatreloading - Thanks for the comment. Yes, I think there mechanic series all has the ball bearing slides. For a top box with the thin drawers that us machinists love though, you get the other slides. Which for light tools they hold work very well. Still loving this new combo over a year it. Works great. I expect you will be happy when you make your purchase.

If you move the hinges on the lid forward from the middle pivot point it’ll stop the lid fully closing.

@ianeastell3242 -- I think they have changed the hinges. Just tried this and it did not make any difference. I think I have seen hinges that have a tab over or a bump out that creates a stop point, but these ones are smooth and closes the same either direction. I have to stick with keeping the lock in place. Thanks for the comment.

This is 30 years of machine hand tools?

Wags - This is one tool box. I have another video with a full shop tour that shows more tools. I was a full time machinist 30 years ago. Over the last 30 years I have done some projects, mostly fixed blade knives. I just got back into really machining a few years ago. I can get most projects done, but there is always another tool to buy for sure.

Suurin voitto logiikalla (can-väylällä) on omasta mielestäni mahdollisuus saada melkein ääretön määrä osia keskustelemaan keskenään ja säätämään itsensä riippuen muuttuvista muuttujista.
