It's almost not fair how emotional I feel when listening to this band. I come away exhausted and wanting more. I'm not sure if I'm doing it justice. I do very much love Dirty Three. I feel very lucky that I'm alive to witness this.
the Dirty Three are the most gorgeous composers and musicians of our time.
this really is a beautiful clip. kudos to whoever put it together. imo their best song off their best album. see them live if you ever get the chance.
Weather permitting, every year around this time (fall) I make sure to end every work week outside around the fire with this record playing. Of all the bands I've enjoyed over the years, I have absolutely never EVER gotten tired of hearing the Dirty Three.
It's not a video and it's not a song.
They're an experience.
Wow, I haven't thought about these guys in about ten years, when someone made me a tape of them. I was amazed then, and am amazed now, as I rediscover how good they are.
perfect and more. Alive.
Wow, very beautiful. This is one of those occasions where I don't fall asleep during a long song. Those violins really compliment the guitars. I actually like this even better than Godspeed you black emperor.
Zarpadamente colgado!!!... y hermoso!
oh. . how much i love this song...
A band that sounds like Dirty Three (because they clearly derive influence from them) is the Melbourne group Because Of Ghosts. I've never heard a drummer more like Jim White and a Guitarist more like Mick Turner. They do not have a Warren Ellis. Despite the similarities they maintain a distinctive sound of their own, and I feel people who enjoy the D3 would gain a great deal of pleasure from their work.
excellent a relax complete for you
Great song :)
Now I'm also remembering I saw them open for Low here in NYC, in '98, I think.
If you appreciate this, go and listen immediatly to LAU, a trio from Scotland - guitar, accordion and violin - they are incredible!
Fucking awesome!!!
Hey Mick Turner (Dirty Three's guitarist) has an exhibition running at Mart Gallery in Sydney. Check it out. It ends March 31st. 156 Commonwealth Street
Surry Hills

Nice video.
@DaZeDmerlin It's Post Rock like Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Ros
Slowcore Post-rock
Some people would call it "Post-rock", similar to Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky or Godspeed You! Black Emperor.
@DaZeDmerlin
It is post rock, but still unique
@truckstopmedia to find music alike Dirty Three...
Have you ever heard Hungry Ghosts - I don't think about you anymore but(...) ?!
I hate to categorize it, but I asked people what genre it was, because I wanted to get into music like that :/
@truckstopmedia i find categorizing music into genres very useful in my job. think - what would you do if you wanted to trawl for some new folk bands but the genre "folk" didnt exist?
@DaZeDmerlin very simple: post rock (or if you prefer: instrumental rock).
I've generally heard it referred to as post-rock.
@truckstopmedia
why not?
@DaZeDmerlin alternative folk instrumental.
it feels like i'm reading moby dick..
@DaZeDmerlin Post Rock, Folk
I think that genre is doom-bluegrass.
@truckstopmedia ......although technically it's post-rock..........
@RBG4lif3 Sigur Ros is post-rock?
@pashamek Doomgrass. Sounds like a Stoner/Sludge metal band.
@geoffhead111 If you really wanted to find it then you'd look harder :)
@pjlk00 post-human?
i think it's post. Not post-rock. But that's not the point.
