The Problem With Football Pundits.

  • There is a huge problem with football pundits. They're more everywhere than ever from Sky Sports to Talksport to wherever else, giving awful opinions and as many cringe moments as they can. Punditry is a growing issue in this country so i'm taking a look a the worst that football has to offer. From Rio Ferdinand to Roy Keane to Gary Neville to Jamie Carragher, every pundit has had their fair share of horrible opinions.

      The push started when Sky purposefully made Souness really channel his Pogba opinion into a weekly bit.
      Anyone who has watched Souness outside of English TV knows he is a more than capable pundit who isn't like he is on Sky.
      Ditto we see with Carra on CBS vs Sky. Yes but care about the views and clicks, but Jamie is effectively a clown like Micah generally is both shows when on CBS.

    Ultimately this boils down to the fact that most English footballers simply aren’t that bright and it spills over into their punditry. Listen to an ex-player pundit in any American sport and compare it with football pundits in England. It’s night and day how much more eloquent the Americans sound and I’m sure the reason for that is American players have to go to university whilst English footballers just have to scrape a pass in two GCSEs.

    • @SaeedMobayed
      @SaeedMobayed Месяц назад +3

      Interesting analysis, never thought of that. It's true I had a little phase when I was in high school where I watched NBA, and I learned that they all have to go to college and get a degree, and in fact that's where pretty much all the players are scouted, college. Americans have much to teach others in how to run sports, and how to actually be profitable, since most football teams are loss businesses.

    • @Josh-cm9jw
      @Josh-cm9jw Месяц назад

      It's one of very few walks of life where Americans come across more educated...sometimes. Joking aside, you're probably onto something with the university thing, English players have their paths set for them before they sit any formal qualifications. It's only those who are naturally educationally inclined that will go onto study the game and those guys aren't doing it for media work, they want to be coaches, working at football clubs and making a tangible difference

There are plenty of good pundits that could offer different perspectives, but the public wants someone they can relate to. 0% chance that Paul Merson or Tim Sherwood are there for their thoughtful analysis.

    The ex-pros are a bit thick. The game has also moved on since they played. Pep humiliated Fergie’s teams 15 years ago. I can’t watch Keane and Neville anymore. Richard Keys reminds me on of the uncool kids I knew at school who had no success with girls. What middle aged man talks like that?

    And somehow punditry is actually better than it was 10 years ago. When Neville came to MNF and started doing some real analysis it showed up the ex-pro "Proper Football Man" for the lazy work they were doing. Guys like the Redknapps and Shearer saying "He won't be happy with that" or "he's got to do better than that" as their key piece of insight couldnt cut it anymore.
    Footballers have rarely been the best people to do this job as few of them have the communication skills required to do the job. Sports journalists were always better equiped for the job, but didnt have the name value. Somehow the ex-pros would look down on these types, despite not actually trying to do the job with any amount of effort.

      Would a black doctor get to play in Soccer Aid?
      Would a black plumber get to play in Soccer Aid?
      It's only entertainers that play in Soccer Aid, so what's the problem with the comment?
      It shows more about people, how they are looking for problems where none exist. Those types of people have set race relations back to be worse than the 1970s for no reason other than their indoctrination by universities and non white racists
