I got a box cutter balisong from Ali Express and it honestly has been a great carry. Its about the same size as the TiRant and has a built in flat head (that I ground into a 2D Philips) and a bottle opener. Besides legality being an issue for other places, it has been pretty practical and enjoyable to carry. As a bonus, I can remove the blade if I want to flip it like a trainer.
Very cool design overall! Appreciate the review!
Love ur work max. Keep it up bud
I see a lot of people commenting about price range but it worth the price I’ve had the exceed design tirant razor for a year and a half and I use it for everything and it is so nice really good quality really sturdy and you can carry it around in your pocket withought it bothering you easy to replace blades and just over all a great knife
Pretty good options for utility blade knives.
They both look great.
Thanks for sharing.
👍🏼I bought an otf utility knife from DHgate for $27. Very useful and fun to play with.
i use an outdoor edge utilipro (which i don't see enough love on youtube for some reason...), what i love about using utility blades is that i can bet the devil out of them and i don't care, i do things with them that i would never do with my civivi elementum, for example
Early adopters of the AliX improved version with the knurled thumb screw still report other issues; it's still not a fully mature final product. I also prefer the simple geometry (of the TiRant Razor) which is ends up useful in several ways (incl. ergonomics) and is timelessly beautiful. While both knife models are similar, imho the TiRant Razor easily takes the cake. A difference between *grade A+* vs. *grade B* .
I agree that a utility blade will handle 90% of a person’s cutting needs, but spending that kind of money for one is a no go for me.
I can understand your point of view.
That said, I buy folding pocket knives from $20 to $600 so I'm not phased by the prices of these. Besides, my knife/edc gear collecting OCD seems to override whatever financial sensibility I have 😅
@@jimhewettjr3730 buying EDC stuff should be classified in the DSM under mental illness 😂😂😂
@@michaelnasser8697 I'm definitely mentally ill when it comes to this stuff
@@jimhewettjr3730 😂😂
I use the v2 utility razor by turnback knife co. One handed sliding, comfortable in the hand. Tooless blade change. I also have the original Gerber EAB
I just got my TiRant Razer V3 for my birthday and l love it. I try took a month to get it.
Good video! The Gerber EAB Lite (silver)is a nice alternative for those who may find a titanium utility knife to be on the pricy side....
Are you going to check out the big idea designs Ti Utility Knife?
Eventually
Both handy and useful, but I'm sticking with my Tirant V3 because: 1) blacked out; 2) specified shorter clip; 3) deep carry. Invisible with darker pants on.
I have been leaning more towards these myself, the new ones are much more refined than the big clunky job site ones of the past.
These are definitely more geared towards the edc community. The ones you find at a hardware store are chunkier, but are also more ergonomic.
I think the most similar and cheapest utility knife you can get that’s very good quality and widely available is the Milwaukee fastback tbh
Have you seen the Tac Knives OTF utility knife if you live where you can carry a auto it's a good option.
Both of those plus a couple others all come from the same OEM, so they are all pretty reliable
I love the design and slimness of the Ali Express blade holder. Would much rather EDC that than any of my Milwaukee Fastbacks, tbh. The Fastbacks, I can only comfortably carry if i wear cargo/work pants. But in my usual jeans, slim is ideal.
Just don't think i want to wait for shipping from China, nor do i need to spend $60 on a blade holder right now, lol
Love my tirant razor i have 3 of them
I used to have a Stanley Outdoorsman. Nice serrated one hand blade with a box cutter in the butt of the handle. I liked it but sadly Stanley discontinued it
Hey, nothing to do with this vid but I just had the thought to put tiny pry bar in my Goat tool when I get it. Not these edc titanium things but an actual small prybar. Maybe cut off the curved part, drill a hole. Or make one from flat steal. Have you done this to any multitool? Thanks.
These knives are super cool and fancy but what is the point? I carry the Workpro. It cuts same as one with a titanium handle. It is one handed open and close. With the button lock it is super secure open or closed. Since they come three in a box for $17 if I lose it no real big loss. I guess buy what you like, but I dont see the point.
Offer an aluminum model with textured scales for grip and make it more affordable (I don't need titanium for a utility knife).
Damn, another thing I want now 😒😂
I have the version 1 & 2 of the Exceed Design, and still need version 3 to fulfill my collecting OCD 😅
Is Ali Express fully trustworthy to buy from? I've never bought through them, and I am apprehensive to do so though I'm not sure exactly why.
The link in the description takes me to knife with a different release mechanism (thumb screw vs push bar)
I got "utility" knife with a craft blade instead, because I wanted a smaller size for easier storage and the small size is enough for open all that pesky hard plastic packages, but also small enough to be okay in public
In the end, it is just a utility knife, box cutter, or whatever you prefer to call it. I would not spend the money on titanium frame for the looks its a waste of money for me. Thanks for sharing.
It's interesting that Gerber calls their folding utility knife a money clip. There's a lot to like about the practicality of a nice folding utility knife... especially if it's multi functional like being your wallet? Food for endless EDC optimization ponderings...
It might sound stupid, but my “test” of a blade is whether or not it can make a good, clean cut on a steak lol I’m not sure a utility blade could do it. But hey, maybe I’m wrong. I do like the “you can just remove it” in case there’s an issue factor.
😂😂 that what I use my blades for too steak knifes at restaurants are so dull and I have some cheap steak knives at home that I never sharpen
I love these, but i also love having a knife, im so torn.
Also having a leatherman is really useful. What fo u carry these days hard 1
I have both and the Ali one is just better.
Tirant has blade retention issues. I've had the blade fly out during difficult cuts multiple times. It also has occasionally lock stick. The pocket clip on it also failed and you have to dissasemble everything to replace it.
Mine from ali matches the picture on the listing you linked to, it just uses a thumb screw. Doesn't fail. I don't know why yours has a completely different blade retention mechanism.
It is cool, but it's like 3 ganzos. Or a couple fancy ones, in carbon fiber and all-metal build.
Is the Ali express version actually titanium?
Does style & looking "cool" really matters? Yes for some atleast who can afford it. Thankfully there are alternatives. We've a utility knife that can be deploy with a spidey flick, has a pocket clip, interchangeable blades & costs $5.00 and fit in that 5th pocket. Still rocking after a year of usage. Some profession use U knife for tight & accurate cuts such as carpenters, electricians & builders etc. It is what it is..! Cheers mate.
What knife is it? Brand? Link?
I guess it these are fine if you don't carry a knife......but I can't justify the cost...when a simple flat box cutter with scraper end is cheap/flat/ light...and easy to carry if needed. If you use them a lot...a Milwaukee Fastrack or basic Utility knife is probably going to be better for most people.
there's just something I do NOT like about flip-out Utility Blades
for one they're too heavy and clunky
and I can't afford Ti !!!
I like the Old School slide-out style
Speaking of a fifth pocket, have you messed with the tpt slide?
It's awesome. Just expensive
I like the aesthetics of the Tirant a bit better. I think I’d just save up the money and go for the higher sticker price.
I use 3d printed housing for this type of utility blades, it is crazy light and disappears in your pocket. This imho is just an overkill but I appreciate the looks of course.
Crap! Now I’m thinkin’ both! 🤔
I actually like the look of the other one better. Slim sleek.. idk why.
$59-$80 for a box cutter/utility knife…?? Would you cut sheet rock with that? How would feel if you misplaced it?? I own three different designs of utility knives, all work perfectly and none of them cost more than $10. Still, I like your videos..!
Milwaukee fastback for $20… everything one could need for edc
All they need to do is put a bit driver on the end of it like a Milwaukee fastback. Seriously does not leave my pocket.
Nice knife. A little pricey 6:08
they've already changed the design of the ali express one.
TBH, I like the design of the Ali express one much more. I totally love it and would order it emediatly.
But it's probably illegal in Germany .... So shit. At least to carry it on the street
There is another slip joint one on Ali expres!
@@maxlvledc thx. I will check it out
First comment and like! Whoot whoot!

Just get a Milwaukee fastback $20
I winced when you started choking up on the .01mm chinesium "choil" 5:32
hey max brotha , great vid n content , 1000% cool, if you know any tactical guys , please send em my way , i am tracking down some stuff for trade/swap here , thanks n talk soon bro > tom !
Get on best damn edc discord
Looks like they stole a bunch of design elements from Rick Henderer to make that utility blade holder.
I stopped as soon as you said AliExpress. Hard 0ass.
You triggered my gear acquisition syndrome again🫣
