    As I find myself acquiring more equipment shooting more and more on my own (out of necessity) and having to split my time between Directing AND DPing, I have to tell you, your videos are a godsend. Any questions/issues I have with Cinematography, you are my go to source and w/o fail your videos always come thru. I appreciate you and I know doing this is time consuming for you but Im actually curious to know whether or not youve ever considered or will in the future consider creating your own Beginning to Advance masterclass on Cinematography? Because I would definitely invest in that! Either way, THANK YOU seriously. You are seriously a one-man film school 👏👏👏🙌

    LULZ, Dog, yeah, as an Xer, I remember how mentally hard it was with my phone to not sweat capturing video. I was used to seeing running time as gold and sweating the light conditions.
    Ektachrome G was my life. My Old Revere used to have a literal filter key that you inserted as needed.
    I knew how hard JJ Abrams sucked when me and my old super 8mm buddies watched that flick, and were like, that stock back then never would have caught a monster at night!! Not even Tri-X Pan.

    Shot super 8 for the first time at 2 weddings this year. I'm still waiting for the scans, but I'm so nervous. I think I should have chosen 200T rather than 50D...who knows.

    BTW, in 1978, I started paying $2.50 per cartridge, plus development, but that was like $20 today. The price rapidly increased by 1981.

    How did you find focussing in low light? I wear glasses which makes it bad enough - but the teeeeny finder on these things makes it wildly difficult. Waiting on my first reel to come back...

      What camera do you have? Canon’s aren’t so bad but always make sure you zoom all the way in first to get your focus on these old cameras. Hope your first reel turns out 👍

    Awesome! Thanks for the information, Brady. I learned a lot. I have always wanted to get into film. Do you know if 16mm or 32mm films are potentially more expensive? I feel like Super 8 is a bit too rough for let's say a short film. But it would be amazing to shoot people with it and make memories. And it is more "real" as it captures the light from the place, rather than digital which is just using electronic pixels. I don't know, but I find it more valuable to have it on film. I wonder, was film a lot cheaper back in the day, as it was more manufacturers? :-)

      I’ve actually been discussing that with a friend lately, I’d have to agree , I’d shoot a film on 15 but not as much 8

      16mm film, processing and scanning runs about $350 for a 10 minute roll. Super 8 was a lot cheaper back in the day. I used to take it to a drug store to get it developed - just like still film. And they made sound film.

    I've seen a lot of fairly worthless videos on Super 8, but I really, really dug this one.

    I shot Super-8 in the 60's & 70's on a Canon 1014. Why would I, for any reason, want to shoot Super-8 in 2023, having to take out a personal loan for film stock and processing... when I can achieve the same "LOOK" on any professional NLE. It's a great want until you realize the costs involved and the scarcity of the editing equipment needed.

    • @DannyOKC
      @DannyOKC 5 месяцев назад

      You can approximate the look. But it's not the same. If you want the real look, you have to use film.
