I think we're making too many excuses for foden, he should sit on the bench if he can't impose himself in games for England.

Completely agree. As good as Foden is for Mac City, he rarely does it for England. Gordon to start next match.

No chance with Southgate. He is far too slow to react to what is happening on the pitch. He stands there watching the team get dominated, with his fingers crossed that the inevitable doesn't happen.
Whats the point of having so much talent on the bench if he isnt going to use it? A top mnager with a pair of balls would have dragged Foden and Kane off after an hour. They were both non existent.

You could say the exact same thing after almost every game we’ve ever played under Southgate. The exact same thing. We play the same, dont learn lessons, limp over the line against lesser teams, and we’ll inevitably be dumped out in the QF/SF stages when we come up against stronger teams.
At least we get to the SF/QF which for most of my life they haven't got that far.
Not bringing a Sterling or Grealish for that left hand side will be a mistake, both very experienced and always turn up for England, esp Sterling

I think Hoddle and Venables had a better approach. Hoddle was at the wrong time possibly. Howe may be better.
@@pauladdae3130 I do remember Hoddle always going for 2 holding midfielders in Ince and Batty. He only started playing Beckham and Owen when he had to, starting them in the 3rd game 1998 WC. Romania well outplaying England in the 2nd match defeat.
@@pauladdae3130 When England played under Ramsey, Mercer, Greenwood, Robson, Hoddle, and Venables I could at least look forward to an exciting game and to feel that the players did us proud, even if they lost. But from Eriksen onwards, England have lacked passion and have been dull to watch.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned how playing Foden LW denied us the second goal.
His tendency to drift inside and into Kane's space, is perfectly summed up when Walker crosses it and he literally bumps into Kane.
A proper LW and that would of been a goal as they'd likely been by the far post. 2-nil and we'd be talking about a completely different game.

I think the problem with England midfield set up is they do not have central midfielders like Rodri or Toni Kroos who can control the tempo. Replace Rice with Rodri and you can play Foden thru the middle in his natural position and Bellingham can still make runs thru the middle.
Rice is a good DM but he is limited and that’s why Arnold is playing next to him

You can have the best most expensive guitar in the world but you have to know how to play it. This man Southgate never learns. Negative mindset, negative tactics, that id understand if he was in charge of Carlton Palmer era England. These players are used to high tempo, high line, high press and his ego can't accept it. Foden is wasted in that set up. We're going to get found out again.
Kane goes missing in so many games. Yes he will statistically score a lot of goals over a season but this has to be tempered with the fact you are playing with 10 men half the time when he is on the field..... He doesn't close down or use much energy, he can't take defenders on and he isn't a massive handful physically. So over rated.

His saving grace for the FA is he's an FA man, a blazer, nice guy but hopeless tactician. We are bereft of ideas when we are under the pump, we flounder, we are flat track bullies.
