This was from the original Woodstock festival in 1969. No problems there. It was 3 days of peace and love. Many babies probably conceived there and a couple were actually born there. No joke. Check out the entire movie. It's a masterpiece and has so many iconic performances.
Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead gave Carlos some mescaline that day. Carlos thought they wouldn't be on stage until that night but they were called to the stage early since they were a fill in group. Santana was tripping and he said the guitar neck looked like a snake. The keyboard player, Gregg Rolie, went on to co-found Journey a few years later. The drummer Michael Shrieve was 20 yo. The band Santana was unknown at the time and their first album was a huge hit when released after the performance.
Me & the other 7 van-mates traveled up from Georgetown (D.C.) and stayed up near the trees you see in the background. It was closest to our way back at the end of the 3 days. Concert goers were down on the front center of the stage. We had acoustic guitars to jam along in our tribe, lol
Comment #1 - Since no-one's said it on this page, I might as well - throughout this gig, Carlos (at least) was still somewhat disorientated after taking an LSD trip earlier. The conga specialist was Michael Carabello, the other percussionist with the timbales was `Chepito' Areas, and the kit drummer was Michael Shrieve. The organist Gregg Rolie (later of Journey) was the original lead singer in the band - i.e: the guy who sang Black Magic Woman.
Jerry Garcia handed out LSD to the band members. They figured it was OK, they were scheduled to play hours later. But something happened to the schedule and they were called on to play early. Carlos said it felt like he was wrestling a snake while playing his guitar.
Yes, Carlos Santana is the guitarist, on drums absolutely genius Michael Shrive!!! wow!!! He was only 20yo than! Here is the full Michael's drum solo: ruclips.net/video/IylUqt227xo/видео.html
I'm of this era, and I enjoy watching younger people reacting to it..I really wish young people would call for the proprietors of The Woodstock film, (which was a rushed release a year later into theaters) to get it back out to big theaters, again. It's long passed over-due, Imho..That is where I first saw it, when I was 13..Seeing it on big screen is a way better experience! WAY better! Btw, the film version of this SS performance is the one that is 9:38 long, and far superior to this one. For one thing, they cut the AWESOME drum solo so much here..And the way the solo is edited (a young Martin Scorsese was involved) is amazing!..Also, they throw in just enough for what's happening in the crowd, that does in no way interfere with the performance...Seriously, though, they're got to re-release it back out into theaters! Idk why they don't. They'd rake it in, and people would EAT IT UP!..So many great performances.
@@AceofBadeReactsI think he watched and wrote in response to a Sina drum cover video prior and didn't hit send until your video. Same sort of thing happened to me before.
i recommend you SANTANA Best performance : *SANTANA - Black Magic Woman / Oye Como Va* (10min 06sec)(Ch4nnel: *therockandrolltv* ) Live performance in Tanglewood, 1970 (Lenox, MA) (its a two continue songs) and then *Santana - Evil Ways - 8/18/1970 - Tanglewood (Official)* (4min 49sec) those are the best live audio quality and better camera scenes/angles from the band. Woodstock performance is Good and Iconic but Tanglewood live version is their best! I REALLY RECOMMEND YOU PAY ATTENTION TO Gregg Rolie (Lead singer, Piano , keyboardist) He was in Santana & Journey amazing performance.
Comment #2 - Three random Santana recommendations: one of the very few songs where Carlos sings lead, (ruclips.net/video/VJgbylnM8io/видео.html); the two-part rabble-rouser from the first album, (ruclips.net/video/8XwW0IJmJaE/видео.html); and one from the really brilliant part of his/their career, you can guess who the singer is (ruclips.net/video/bQt9jACdSFQ/видео.html)

What is your favorite Santana song?
incident at Neshabur, off the Abraxas album (1970)

Oh wow. I didn't even realize he was on anything. The whole performance was amazing
Michael Shrieve on the drums - legendary.

Thank you for the information. I didn't even notice Carlos was a little off

You should watch another performance from Woodstock - Joe Cocker, With a Little Help From My Friends.
The song name sounds familiar. I'll add it to the list

Wow. That's a lot of people

This is the cut version... most of the drums solo is cut out. Find the whole version of this performance. Amazing song!
Oh I had no idea there were multiple versions
This is the 'crap' version.

There are quite a few videos I've reacted to that were edited and I hate it when I find out because I definitely missed out on some stuff.
Sina...check out Santana's Soul Sacrifice from Woodstock. The drums are played by Michael Shrieve. That might be a good one for you to play?
Is that not what this was?
