I'm using the presets on my BOSS DS-1 stompbox, with the distortion rolled on high gain (but not full), and the tone rolled to mid-range (Find a tone that is not too sharp or too blurry, this will depend on your guitar as well). Throw in an equalizer and it'll sound even better! :)
