You can see the VFS rotating, with 4 packer rakes, 1 feeder rake and above it is 1 retainer to block the entrance to the bale chamber, until enough has accumulated to make a decent thickness flake. This is timed to open just as the feeder rake is pushing the hay up the pre-chamber and just before the plungerhead goes by, compressing the flake.
