    To be honest Pav, listening through my iPhone speakers I can’t detect any difference in exhaust tone, both sound very meaty though 👍

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      Yeah it’s a great sound anyway. I think once the warranty is nearing its end it needs a map to allow for more pops and increase the power slightly...😝

      Personally I can’t hear any difference, but perhaps you need to hear it in the flesh to notice. I run a PFL RS3 with secondary decats and it’s absolutely ridiculous 😂

    Just literally jacked the car up to find, like you, that it's already got a secondary decat... Dissapointed to say the least, the noise is still way too quiet! I thought it was a totally standard system it's that quiet, dread to think what one with secondary cats sounds like...

    I was told they were, but Its crazy how restricted the facelifts exhaust is compared to the pre-facelift, I've got the standard exhaust with milltek secondary pipes and my downshifts are brutal, like Huge bangs and crackles, Good video though bud!

      BDHracing thanks mate! I was hoping this would make the same difference but it doesn’t. But litchfield actually say the exhaust is good enough to go stage 2 so I think it’s the map that’s on the car that limit the pops and bangs, for emissions stuff basically. Annoying!!

    • @nikebo
      @nikebo 6 лет назад

      oh yeah that makes sense, at least that way its much cheaper for a stage 2, a simple De-res should solve the issue nicely for you

  • @JimosEU
    @JimosEU 6 лет назад +1

    No difference at all, then again there won't be because you haven't changed anything that will enhance sound. If you want pops you will need to get them mapped in. If you want louder stock pops then get a main decat.

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      I’m worried that it is going to need a map, but I’m not keen to void warranty just yet. Seems mad that others are saying they get lots more pops just from the decats, but the pre-facelift does have a different map anyway. I’ll try the de-res to see if a bit more volume helps the downshifts and then decide on a map from there!

    • @JimosEU
      @JimosEU 6 лет назад +1

      Yeah the pre-facelift is a different story, removing the secondary cats on that made a massive improvement, thing is the pops were already mapped in, so removing the cars just made them louder. Seems like Audi are under some strict regulations now since all their new models have really muted exhausts when it comes to the bangs/pops, compared to their previous models. You can try to de-res but not really sure that will be what you are looking for. From everything I've seen a primary decat will take away the muted tone to some of the factory pops but really you need to get them mapped in, especially for downshift overrun. I understand you concerns with warranty, it's all a bit annoying really! I collect my RS3 next week and have been umming and arring about what I'm going to do!

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      Motor Playground that makes sense then, I had a feeling it would be to do with efficiency. The engine note is lovely it just doesn’t give you hardly anything in a downshift and I feel like a bit more volume and some pops would make that better. May just have to end up with it being 500+ Bhp and have them mapped in anyway ha

    • @JimosEU
      @JimosEU 6 лет назад

      haha exactly what I'm thinking, decat with stock sports exhausts and intercooler with MRC map = 520+ bhp! It will be an animal. I know what you mean with the downshifting, I've only had a quick test drive in the RS3 but it kind of leaves you dissatisfied when you downshift and you get nothing. Compared to my stage 2 Focus RS with full scorpion exhaust and insane pops mapped in it was a bit dull. However, comparing a modified car to an un-modded car is unfair and my stock focus RS was also a bit dull. I think the lesson here is F the warranty because modded cars are 10x better!

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      Motor Playground hahaha I think you’re right mate, just takes a bit of time to get used to a stock car (get bored basically) then it’s easier to think F the warranty and just do thing 😂 imagine 520+ in this thing, it’ll fly!

      Thomas Van Looke I wouldn’t say so mate. Not worth changing it from standard sports exhaust!

  • @BBDSmint
    @BBDSmint 6 лет назад +5

    There are three reasons why it doesn't sound like Fast Lane's RS3.
    1) Audi mapped the crackles and pops out of the downshifts for emissions reasons.
    2) The facelift exhaust is a bit more restrictive sound-wise and is designed to already meet upcoming laws regarding exhaust noise.
    3) The biggest reasons is the facelift car has an aluminium engine block and the pre-facelift is iron. The Alu block has lost a lot of the depth and tone of the pre-facelift sound. You will never be able to replicate the sound of the pre-facelift car on a facelift car, regardless of exhaust setup.

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      BBDSmint interesting. I figured it was just the map and didn’t realise the actual engine block plays a part!

    • @TheQuickest
      @TheQuickest 5 лет назад

    • @Ocelot7
      @Ocelot7 6 лет назад

      May seem obvious but I find I get more pops when I down or up shift from a gear that i've really pushed. Almost like the more heavy footed you are, the more fuel is displaced in the pipes and that burns up causing more pops/throttle over run. If I dont do that its tame. Your MPG willgo down but your PPM willgo up (pops per mile)

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад +1

      Ocelot7 yeah I’ve had a couple of times where it has done it but it’s just not enough for me at the moment. I think a bit more volume will help though. PPM and SMG (smiles per gallon) haha perfect

    • @Ocelot7
      @Ocelot7 6 лет назад +1

      Haha yeah I felt exactly the same until I did the mods but from reading below it seems as though the mapping is different in the facelift.I wish you all the best of luck with it mate. You'll win in the end, it's your car not Audi's. They Sorted the understeer but got trapped in exhaust noise red tape. Could of been a perfect car out the box ey... they love to make things difficult for us enthusiasts! We want modern reliability and drivabilitywith nostalgic, limitless sounds! Too much to ask for out the box. They keep modshops in business though which is good!

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад +1

      Ocelot7 that’s it! You think they’ve sorted it out but there’s usually a catch, I just don’t understand why manufacturers don’t make them sound as good as possible right out of the box, that would be my main aim with any car - those who don’t like the sound can either use the valves or buy something different! I’ll get it sorted definitely, I think a res delete will make it loud enough for me to grin a bit more and everything else about it is spot on. I guess modding is all part of the fun too!

    • @JamiePav

      quba560 M4 more fun, especially in corners and would be miles better on a track. However as a daily driver with the Quattro, this thing would leave the m4 in all weathers in my opinion! Prefer the noise of this, interiors are probably on par but the virtual cockpit is cool in this!

    Are you happy with the new rs3 I have just sold my a45amg and looking at the rs3 facelift I drove one the other day and felt it was quiet in the cabin and disappointed with no pops and bangs on the down shifts.

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад +5

      daniel wilson it’s actually my favourite car I’ve ever owned. Had m3, m4, r8 v10 plus and many others. It’s a fantastic daily with so much power and grip you can blast it round in all weathers. Did it have sports exhaust? Most people find it loud in my cabin although I would personally have it louder. I do however need to close the valves on the motorway when people are in the car as it can be quite loud. With the windows down I do hear pops and crackles. I think ideally I need to de-resonate and there is a simple map to allow the pops to return like the pre-facelift. You won’t be disappointed but may need to tinker with it to get the sound you want. 5 cylinders are on a whole different planet noise wise to 4 cylinders though!

  • @joanhernandezciriza3797
    @joanhernandezciriza3797 6 лет назад

    no jaime no. The pops are made from an excess fuel from a an overrun. You can sort it out in 5 minutes. Any tuner that can access your ecu can bring back the gunshots. They were taken out of the facelift for mpg and ignition issues. Here is a link to hardware from mtm if you dont want to mess with the ecu. Cheers

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      joan hernandez ciriza hey! I thought that MTM was a remap? Is it hardware rather than software? I want to avoid mapping to avoid destroying the warranty!

    • @joanhernandezciriza3797
      @joanhernandezciriza3797 6 лет назад

      It’s hardware. Check out their MTM module on the link I posted. Even the ecu can be tuned via hardware as they offer both m-cantronic and software solutions. Both come to make the same hp but the software solution makes a meaningless 20 nm of torque over the m-cantronic. If you go with the m-cantronic you will definitely keep the warranty as it takes like 2 minutes to unplug and It while not touching the ECU software so no possible TD1 problem. I spoke to them a week ago and nearly pulled the trigger for 2800 euros. The thing with these engines is that they really need an upgraded intercooler to produce good additional power even if you live in the north pole. MTM sells you their own I/C which is a rebranded wagner evo 3 but that’s good news cause it’s the best I/C on the market by far. A stage 1 software with such an intercooler is more reliable than your current stock setup by the way. Just consider that your engine will be sucking air at half the temperature. Change your oil to Motul 300v 5W30 and that car will live long enough to burry you :)

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  6 лет назад

      joan hernandez ciriza yeah the Wagner intercooler is what I was looking at but I decided against the software just to preserve the warranty. I hadn’t realised MTM we’re doing hardware ask if that the keeps the warranty it’s seems worth it, it’s not cheap though but the car really needs that extra power to fulfill its potential! Thanks mate

    • @joanhernandezciriza3797
      @joanhernandezciriza3797 6 лет назад

      oh yeah, I asked and re-asked. You dont loose warranty and MTM gives total warranty themselves so you cant go wrong.

      Ian Clark I think it’s the map on the newer engine, the price we pay for 400bhp! If you look at ABT they can map in the pops with their group b or rally map they call it. Annoying as it should come as standard really! What colour saloon did you go for?

    • @ianclark5093
      @ianclark5093 6 лет назад

      Jamie Pav it's ara blue with Matt ally pack. Basically the same as the release show car but no carbon brakes. The S3 has better kit as standard. We pay a premium for that extra cylinder. It's my family car so it's loud enough for now. My tail pipes are corroding a little and it rattles on cold start. Other than that I love it.

      Very different mate. Much easier to extract power and much more planted. Less fun but feels safer. Power delivery feels better due to AWD, can use it in any weather. M4 was frustrating in wet and sometimes in dry too (comp pack helped this apparently)

    • @JamiePav
      @JamiePav  5 лет назад +2

      Chris Robinson will it be a daily driver? If so then the RS3 definitely. If you want something that’s just rapid all the time (and can remap to 500bhp) you cant go wrong with the rs3. A45 sounds awful compared and you’d regret the a45 over the rs3. M4 is more special and more fun but more frustrating in anything other than perfect weather. Totally depends what you want it for. For a weekend car, m4. For an only car, rs3!

    • @chrisrobinson7395

      Jamie Pav it’d be a daily, only downside is I’ve heard the pre facelift rs3 is nose heavy? Only downside to the m4 is the tiny exhaust sound and the interior, it was no different in my m140i. When you get into your RS3, does it give you a ‘special’ feeling? As well as the m4? Cheers mate
