Another important aspect is that many plug-in developers only test their AU plug-ins in Logic. This means that these plug-in versions often show stability issues in other DAWs like Studio One. In Sphere Expert Chat we see significantly more AU plug-ins crashing or causing other kinds of issues than VST2/3 plug-ins. The recommendation is therefore to always prefer VST over AU if possible.
Good tutorial and it’s great to see you back in the chair giving us helpful hints. It’s honestly one of the highlights of working in Studio One and just makes the experience that much more enjoyable. Thanks Gregor. 😊
Also about AU: it doesn't allow you to route an instrument' track's input to another midi track for Midi FX and Note generation (like Reason+ players, AudioModern Riffer and so on) It's basically a security thing with Apple, as you will find in Logic, you can only use those types of plugins as a Midi FX insert, which is way more limited than what we have here in Studio One and other DAWs that use VSTs
Currently for native-silicon (MacOs) plugins yes. For non-native AU is the only option. Hopefully in the near future CLAP will be supported. Depending on how Presonus implements it, it could be a great step forward.
I still have a couple of crucial plug ins that do not have Apple Silicon support. Using AU I don't have to run S1 in Rosetta mode for them to work. I recently trialled Cubase and these plug ins would not work without loading the whole DAW in Rosetta mode because I had to run them in VST3. I also have a couple of SSL plug ins that need VST3 to work with my UC1. It's nice to have the flexibility available in Studio One. For the record, I preferred Studio One over Cubase and didn't make the switch- but I am waiting for the Channel Editor to have an EQ built in and I need precise pre fader peak metering please Presonus.
I've always wondered about the difference between VST2 & VST3. Great Video. On another note, can we get a stock saturator plugin in Studio One + Atmos support? 🥺
Thanks! Slowly i am going to understand another percent from my already 2% overall knowledge of S1 😅. Gregor, could you eventually share some thoughts about "how the conversion rate affects the AD/DA conversion when using pipeline? " (24/48 etc.) Which is best to use ? Thanks.
Hello Gregor. I LOVE ALL of PreSonus products mainly because everything they make integrates SO WELL with everything else. However, I'm rather disappointed they haven't introduced a kick-ass flagship keyboard controller to complete their arsenal of DAW products that in. Will there EVER be such a product?
I'm trying to understand how I can add a stereo instrument track ... Can somebody help... I'm trying to add in different ways and they come in mono but show they are stereo in the mixer... I'm confused 🤔 here
One thing I recently noticed is that some vendors may have both VST2 and VST3 versions of plugins but had VST2 for longer and may not have all the features of their VST2 plugin in the VST3 version. This is rare (as far as I noticed), but case in point is UJAM's Sparkle 2 and some other of their plugins. The VST3 version doesn't have the advanced Studio One integration (built-in Sound Variations, chord tracks support, etc.). Also, this "blind" disabling of VST2 plugins assumes that everything you have has a VST3 version. Which is pretty much never the case in practice. Also, kind funny seeing you in headphones in a video that has no sounds coming out of your computer 😅
Hey Gregor, any suggestions if a vst2 Plugin isn´t loading in the Plug-In Manager? I´ve recently updated my Serum including vst3. But now all my Projects with Serum as vst2 arent´t working anymore. I just can see that the Plug-In Manager has loaded the vst3/au but not the vst2 (i´ve installed them all) I could delete the vst3 Version but than i can never switch to vst3 with all my Plugins. Thanks a lot!
Greg, thx for the video. Explain to us how to set studio one up to use midi cc with faderport 8 to control dynamics, expression and vibrato... It is easy when I can midi learn or use link when the instrument allows it but when you cannot do it , I cannot find how to add this cc1, 11 and 7 and put them by défault for everything. Thx
Do you use Ilok for any licensing? I’m trying to upgrade Melodyne and having a hard time installing it. Your thoughts? Do I need Ilok for all my licenses?
Hi John, you don't need iLok for neither Studio One, nor Melodyne. You can manage your 5x Studio One activations completely yourself under my.presonus.com/account/ . For Melodyne installation & activation support, please reach out to Celemony: helpcenter.celemony.com/hc-2/support Hope this helps! -GBY
Hi, FX is just the overall term for all Plug-ins that are inserted on Mixer Channels. These FX Plug-ins can be either in the VST2, VST3, AU, or native Studio One standard. Hope that clears things up a bit. -GBY
I wish Studio One would also Implement tagging or segregating plugins just like in Roland ZenBeats, Ableton Live, and Reason where they have specific folders in the browser for VST2, VST3, and AU plugins.
No it doesn't. Last two plugins I purchased including Eventide Spli EQ VST3 will NOT load into Studio One 6.2! Haven't even used them yet!!! Not good enough.

@@presonusWill Studio One ever be able to read iPad music production apps in the same way that Logic Pro and now Ableton can do?

VST3 is the choice!

When will S1 implement CLAP plug in format?
😅
Yes, that would be great!
When you will add CLAP format?
Clap would be amazing
I was just wondering about this recently thank you so much!
Just updated all my stuff thanks to this video.
I've always wondered about the difference between VST2 & VST3. Great Video. On another note, can we get a stock saturator plugin in Studio One + Atmos support? 🥺
Thanks for THIS. Very helpful. Now I can clear up some disc space. 😃

Which is best to use ?
Thanks.
Thanks. Really good to know about this. As always, excellent and detailed information from you.)
interesting fact that the VST standard has been co-written by an S1 dude :O
VST3 - yes :-)
How about just disabling VST 2 and AU altogether in S1 settings?
Gregor the Great!! Thank you so very much!
studio one 5 pro not recognizing neaural dsp archetype rabea plugin

Straight forward explanation. Is Studio One a good DAW to work with? I have experience with many DAW’s, never tried Studio One, though.
That's a great one. Thank you GBY!

AU is actually vital on MacOs right now, since it is the only way to combine native-silicon and non-silicon plugins
Please make possible to freeze bus tracks like pro tools

Excellent recommendation.
Is this for Studio One 3 artist? I thought it doesnt take VST2 or VST 3 Plugins..
Useful ! Thanks as usual
Thank You Gregor, so enlightening in all simplicity. Supertoll:-)
Ha, vielen Dank! :) -GBY
Is Studio One ever going to get behind the CLAP format and break the dependency on Steinberg ?
Greg, thx for the video.

Future support for CLAP would be nice
CLAP is a great step forward compared to the outdates VST3 etc plugin formats

Will studio one ever support Dolby Atmos mixing?
thanks for all this info!!
What about FX vs VST and the difference

Would luv 2 use impact/SampleOne as 3rd party plugin in another DAW
No it doesn't. Last two plugins I purchased including Eventide Spli EQ VST3 will NOT load into Studio One 6.2! Haven't even used them yet!!! Not good enough.
this problem with the vst i hate that is the only thing hate with studio one
❤❤❤❤
You guys don’t have to worry about this anymore. Apple announced that they are now able to run its applications (Linux) into Windows compatible mode.
all that waves plugins in your plugin manager ... RIP 🤣
StOne so laggy, omg... Looks great, many possibilities, but so crashy and laggy =(
Been using S1 since 2018 with that being said, that's not true. You need to ramp up your computer specs.
You should stop doing this updates and start moving to Dolby Atmos... Seriously, S1 is becoming a DAW for Kids instead than a DAW for professionals...
You should really consider adding clap support.
Yes, very much so
