Gary Rossington and Allen Collins never get the credit they deserve as actually being one of the very best guitar tandems in rock history. RIP to all of the departed Sknyrd members and long live the band and their music. Timeless.
I love both guitarists showing their prowess. Gary rockin' the slide and Allen getting funky and having fun. Billy Powell on the piano... showing his classical training roots and laying it down. One of my favorites.
Their music affects me on such a deep level. Makes my bones vibrate. I love them, and I am so lucky to have seen them live in 1977. I'll never forget the power of this band.
This is absolutely Vintage Lynrd Skynrd! I have seen this entire set from The Old Grey Whistle Test and I was rewarded with cold chills and I was transformed
Saw them in Nashville, Tn. in 76' as part of a 3-act bill with the Atlanta Rhythm Section who played first, The Outlaws who played second, and Skynyrd of course closed the show. When I saw them in 76',. Steve Gaines was literally brand new to the band. He'd only been with them just over a month if memory serves. Still have some great photos of the show to this day taken by my dear departed older brother who sadly died of cancer in 2009.
They've never gotten the credit thats deserved. I believe its because they flew the Confederate Flag. This music will never die RIP my southern brothers. We will carry you!
I LOVE LOVE this song and, I LOVE Skynyrd. Man, what an incredible band! Happy Birthday to the late Ronnie Van Zant too! RIP Collins too - Amazing. I'll never let this band's legacy die!
Billy Powell estava espetacular nessa apresentação, a melhor que eu vi desse fantástico pianista Billy Powell was spetacular in this season, the best show from this fantastic pianist
The Bass & Drums sound perfect together on this tune. Awesome lyrics & killer vocals also made this tune great. I've seen Leon, Gary, and Billy "Live" on a night when Johnny was dead on. May 26 1993 At Deer Creek in Indiana. They started their show with a acoustic set. One of the best concerts I've ever seen. Only topped by Pink Floyd at the "Hoosier" dome. a few years earlier. Thanks for uploading this. This should have had more views after this many years. Great tune.
I am from Chicago, deep into the blues scene, and I cannot recall hearing about any Skynyrd members ever stopping into a blues jam session or checking out any blues acts. That's over a 25 year period. They come to Chicago frequently, but are not into the blues scene here. That's a fact. I do recall Warren Haynes of The Allman Brothers joining Son Seals up on stage at the Kingston Mines- awesome.
Yes..Lynyrd Skynyrd died in 1977...Ronnie was the heart and soul of Skynyrd. And anybody who knows anything about the new “Skynyrd”, knows that using the name now was just greediness...
Favorite band of all time. Don't care what anyone says. Band is gone the music is forever. Rossigton Collins was excelent. Lynyrd skynyrd died with Ronnie. Won't even listen to what they are calling lynyrd skynyrd today Johnny taking a free ride on his brothers legacy
back when a time when rock and roll was Really rock n roll !!! i saw them live...in atlanta in 87 ...one of if not the 1st show's they did since '77 alan collins steave gain's cassy gain's dean patrick..ronnie van zant...< i miss you all !! I love skynyrd !!! and the beatles < beatleme2
@1973Skynyrd1977 Lionard Skinnered is basic of their band name - Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was their very strict teacher who was learning them maths :) Regards and thank you for this nice clip.
I have my dad's record collection. Plus, I use youtube for exploring unique music that you don't hear everyday. You can't just like one type of music. As a musician, my taste in music does not revolve around one type of music. You must have a lot of time on your hands to go through my 1000 plus favorites. I don't even know all what I have in my favorites anymore.
You're correct that they were not at all political, but they did introduce a lot of social issues on songs like Sweet Home Alabama and Saturday Night Special among many others.
Doubling mics is sometimes done to have a backup if one fails (fairly common), sometimes done to give a feed to a recording and another to the house PA system.
This is so good such a great song from their cataalog of verygood songs that the TRIBUTE BAND just do not do.Dam shit shame. They don't play songs from their 90's CD Albums and those recordings RONNIE would be very proud of too!
@1973Skynyrd1977 Oh. Ok, so I remembered something wrog. Thanks for clearing up. Strange days there were, weren't they ? Now I see that ppl in usa had similar problems in school in '50s and '60 like ppl in middle europe, where I live . . .
Much like All Along The Watchtower, Come Together, Redemption Song, cover songs are sometimes better than the originals. A credit to the greatness of the artists covering.
That is about SKYNYRDS.Early f23king amazing,mature-ish fu23king amazing.DEAD.Even more fu23king amazing years after...They will never die as long I live...well,hope it is not gonna take too long to meet Ronnie...
Larry Junstrom has been .38 Special's bass player since '78. Greg T. Walker has been Blackfoot's bass player since around '75 (if Blackfoot's still around).
I think people forget that the original band was not political.. It's only the line ups in the last 10-15 years that have been political and alienating their fan base. I'm here for the good music, screw politics.
@MrPorsche91730 Another song was also written about Gary and that was Needle and the Spoon. I remember when Gary wrecked his Torino. It's a miracle he wasn't killed. Ironically Gary and Artimus Pyle are the only two still living.
Ronnie always said in interviews when asked about why he went barefoot, he simply said he loved feeling the heat of the stage when performing. This said a lot about the type of person Ronnie was as he was real and not fake and could care less about anyones opinions about him as Ronnie was very short in stature. A lessor man would have worn huge cowboy boots.
@ZWylde7901 Allen was around six feet tall....Ronnie was 5'7"....When Steve joined the band in 76'...he also was around six feet tall...god bless Skynyrd...all of its collective members.....that band has been through so much!
@guitarslinger75 It was Bush Sr, Bush Jr, Cheney, Rumsfool, powel, Rice, Palin and McCain. They don't like rock & roll. They like middle east music now.
Gary Rossington and Allen Collins never get the credit they deserve as actually being one of the very best guitar tandems in rock history. RIP to all of the departed Sknyrd members and long live the band and their music. Timeless.

Sir, absolutely agree. RIP to both of these master guitarist. 😢
There will never be another Lynyrd Skynyrd, the greatest southern rock band ever!
Exactly what I've always been saying..
I love both guitarists showing their prowess. Gary rockin' the slide and Allen getting funky and having fun. Billy Powell on the piano... showing his classical training roots and laying it down. One of my favorites.
It don't get no better than Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Dang original Lynyrd Skynyrd had some real soul. love the JJ Cale covers too.
I love this period, it was so raw....

I ❤U Lynyrd Skynyrd, RIP. 50 years just wasn’t long enough!
Their music affects me on such a deep level. Makes my bones vibrate. I love them, and I am so lucky to have seen them live in 1977. I'll never forget the power of this band.

When I saw them in 76',. Steve Gaines was literally brand new to the band. He'd only been with them just over a month if memory serves. Best southern music ever
this song is very exciting, the piano solo was wonderful...unhappiness this show was very short
Allen Killing It On That Fender Strat!
That's a Gibson!
poogmonster no, he's playing a Fender in this. He does usually have a Gibson Explorer, except for a few songs.
Had to play strat since King had left the band at this point. In between king and gains here. They still sound awesome tho.
I absolutely Love This Video 💞💞💞
Fantastic band!
Bare-feeted, for which he was famed. Ronnie being the top singer in this genre.
Best Band Ever!! R.I.P.
this song is awesome, skynyrd at their best, i like the rythm guitar, sounds cool.
I agree one of the best. Been on my favorites for a while!
Skynyrd was down to just Rossington and Collins playing guitar here after Ed King left mid tour 1975,it's still kick @ss.
Killer riff and the slide to boot 👍
There may have been an airplane crash a while back, but Lynyrd Skynyrd will never die..
Never the same.
i saw Lynyrd Skynyrd here in Berlin/Germany...that was a so fucking good concert
1996?
Gonna be a sad sad day for me when Gary goes...

What a backup riff Allen, R.I.P.
That was fckin amazing. Skynyrd was tight as hell.
I like the song with the harp solo more than the piano solo :-) Still a great song :D
Unfortunately they always played this song live without the harp solo
luv the peaveys!
You're correct that they were not at all political, but they did introduce a lot of social issues on songs like Sweet Home Alabama and Saturday Night Special among many others.

Real rock and roll
Did JJCale write this song for Lynard Skynyrd? Sure sounds like it. Love this band
