I interpreted the helper child in the abyss the main character's(RM's) inner child or older true self because the helper isn't dressed in a uniform like to other kids that were trying to lead the MC astray nor is he a grownup, rather he is a more sure reflection of the MC. The helper knows exactly how to navigate these situations even though he is a child and we see that he is aware of the exits to this maze-like abyss. However, he doesn't leave, instead, he is learning about this chaos and waiting to guide a specific person, the MC out of this chaos. And, I think that is typically the role an inner child/true self if we listen to them properly.
