Self-healing approaches in concrete can be divided into autogenous healing and autonomous healing. Autogenous healing is originated naturally from the cementitious material, i.e., further hydration of unhydrated cement in concrete, while autonomous healing requires a trigger to activate the process.

Does this bacteria harm the steel?
No….. this bacteria doesn’t harm the reinforcement….because this bacteria reacts only with atmosphere ( it will react to water mainly).
When it is exposed to atmosphere it will heal the pores or cracks…. So there is no chance that it will harm the reinforcement…

Bacillus was found to survive in concrete (pH = 12) with the protection of zeolite and to produce calcium carbonate crystals after self-healing evaluation on crack-healed specimens at ages 4, 6, and 8 months cured in water, and the compressive strength improved with the addition of bacteria (10%)

This has social, economic, and environmental benefits, as overcoming/reducing the need for maintenance and/or increasing longevity reduces disruption, as well as the cost and use of materials.
