I like that at the beginning of the tape there's an enduring dropout line that does it's best to obliterate the "It is unlawful to" part of the copyright warning. Turns it into a "Fill yer boots" message on copyright violation of the tape contents :)
I remember renting this in January of 1993, as I hadn't long turned 10 years old. I was so hyped for Alien 3! It came out on video the following month.
I remember going to the 7-screen multiplex MGM Trocadero Cinema in London to see Ridley Scott's 1492. The cinema had the latest Dolby SR and the seats were so comfortable. The acoustics were perfectly balanced, especially when you heard the waves crash against the ship and Vangelis's wonderful score resonate throughout the cinema. I even got a nice quad poster and a preview book that came with the screening. Back then, no one had smart phones and people in the cinema just enjoyed the experience. I barely even go to the cinema today. The vast majority of films aren't worth considering.
I may have been in London when I saw it, was exited for Scott films then. Would have to pay me to watch them in the cinema now. Also John Glen did a Columbus film but I don't think I have seen it
Pretty shocked to find out the other day that Ridley spent just 52 days filming Gladiator II, as most of the hard work was covered it post. Even the films' cinematographer John Mathison (who also shot the original Gladiator, along with a few other Scott films) has dubbed him as a very lazy director these days ; Sad.
@VideoTasties Christpher Columbus: The Discovery. I saw that on VHS rental. Braveworld put it out! There were some good action set pieces in the film. Glen was a very fluid and tight action director, plus Glen was a terrific editor. Unfortunately, the film suffered from one-dimensional scripting and not being as colourful or as visually striking as Scott's take on Columbus. Both films clashed quite heavily, and the promotion of Discovery wasn't as significant as Scott's version.
@FranzSanchez-ky9up Does it surprise you, Franz? I saw Neopoleon at the cinema. I've never seen such a wasted opportunity. Just over $200 million on a film that was lacklustre, lazy, and so bloody grey and dark, I could barely see what was going on. Why do I scream for epic films from the past. Sergi Bondarchuk directed War and Peace. I would put my neck out and say that War and Peace is better than Bondarchuk's Waterloo, but Waterloo is better researched and masterfully directed than Neopoleon. Scott is given free reign because he's Ridley Scott. Whatever Scott wants, Scott vertually gets. The original Gladiator was just an upscaled version of Kubrick's Spartacus, and Gladiator II is a vertual upscale of Gladiator. It's beyond laziness, in my opinion.
@@dr.impossibleofcounterpunc1984 The truth is, Scott has never really been the great visionary that he's always been sold as, even arguably in his prime. He was always more of a promotor, than a filmmaker/storyteller, in no small part because of his early advertising backround. The thing I don't get is way he still carries on at his age ; he's just two days away from turning 87! Surely, he doesn't need the money. At least with somebody like Clint Eastwood, you do get a sense that he still enjoys the process. Still haven't seen Napoleon. I still somewhat regret not seeing it in IMAX ; I hear the director's cut is better, but who knows.
@ Interesting, that explains why it possibly hasn’t had a re release. Because that type of movie feels like prime picking for the boutique Blu-ray labels.
Was 12 years old at the time, and it hit all the buttons! We couldn’t get Arnie and Stallone together, but we got Van Damme and Lundgren! Awesome film - Roland Emmerich’s best work (though he’d hate that opinion!)
That's s great film, strictly ballroom. Zesty and full of life. Why can't films be like that. I never seen Universal Soldier,so I have no idea about the film. What the hell is blue ice. I though it was a porno film with mike caine and some woman with a great arse. 😂

The merch is surprising for the time. That Universal Soldier MD game is just Turrican 2 reskined.
I would like the Jackets

I saw both in the cinema and enjoyed them, I go back to UniSol more now though

Guild really put the effort into marketing for their videos. Also how on earth have gone this long without hearing about Blue Ice 😮
It bombed hard on release despite the cast

@@RiderRated18 there's no chemistry between caine and young
@@VideoTastiesI can see why. He’s far too old for a start.
Universal Soldier is a great movie. My father hated it and called it a bad movie.
I love it but my dad didn't like it either
@@VideoTasties My Dad trashed Dolph Lundgren for his acting and performance as the evil Andrew Scott.

@gammaALAN it's some great pre CGI action
Ever heard of tracking 😂😂
It's auto tracking but the tape is a 30 year old rental
@VideoTasties the lover trailer seemed badly affected 😂😂
@Paulaston77 ah that was a filter to hide nudity otherwise it might get blocked
This is a piece of history and I love it. Takes me back to all the trailers and excitement that went with it
It was addictive. ,👍

Universal Solier is a great fun action film. Blue Ice wasn't bad
