This song was based on an actress with Japanese parentage in China during the war. Hence Dimash's costume here reminiscent of what men wore during those times. I've seen the original singer's version (he's Japanese) and I've seen Jacky Cheung's cover (famous Hong Kong's singer).....both are good and different and I must say Dimash simply took this song to a completely new level and make it his. Dimash didn't know Mandarin and he had to sing this song in Mandarin (he only had one week to prepare and learn) and to perform it to a predominantly Mandarin speaking audience in China. That took a lot of courage, hardwork and incredible talent because Mandarin is not an easy language. I've watched many foreign singers famous for singing in their own languages but singing (hardly any good at all) in Mandarin.
I just have a month looking at Dimash interpretation an different reaction and I just can not stop watching again and again and again. I can not explain. It like a routine now for me. If I feel sad I put some Dimash videos or songs. Or if I am driving to work. Doesn't matter. I just have to listen to him. Is like Angel's melodies. Thanks Jen to react to Dimash.

I still browse the music videos of Dimash from time to time to see what still store in there. I’m just wondering how much effort and strength Dimash had invested into it and to reach such a powerful voice and the many other talents that he had. Indeed it is really a great work. Jenn, thank you but I was totally confused. I saw that you had the subtitles on so I think you used the video from the channel Gloria Wu but you didn't mention the back story & I didn't ever see you looking at the screen much to be able to read the words. You also didn't mention the women in the audience crying like I always do knowing the story & words to this song & to Daybreak I can't watch either one from Gloria Wu channel without crying every time. PLEASE rewatch including the story for this & PLEASE use from her channel including story for Daybreak & have tissues ready
