Young Jack was always so well behaved when with his Dad. He showed such a fascination for everything Fred did and it's lovely to see. I know when Sue and Fred split up, she moved to the Isle of Man with Jack and his brother, Roger. Even after Fred's death, the boys still came over to the mainland to join in steam fairs to help the man who bought the steamroller, Betsy.
Given his views on homosexuality in some of his interviews, he'd probably be arrested by the rozzers and dragged in front of the "human rights council".
@@vulpsturm yeah its true I don't agree with some of his views but he lived in a different time cant hold someone to account for views he had from a different time he lived or pretty much anyone in history you would have to say was bad.
I did some high scaffold work in my almost 40 years as a mason tender. Back in the day there weren't a lot of safety rules either. I have no fear of heights. That being said, no way I could do this work or even keep up with Mr. Dibnah. Amazing man and a national treasure.
As someone that worked as a cabinet maker /wood worker, those first 30 seconds almost gave me an heart attack. Than I remembered he used to climb chimneys after a few pints at lunch for a living lol.
It was quite nice to see young jack serving his apprenticeship, when I was a child I wanted to be a steam roller driver, whenever there were road works I would talk one of my parents into taking me to see the steam roller flattening the tarmac when it was going down, if ever there were roadworks on the way to school, I had to be escorted to school otherwise I would spend the day watching the men work on the road with the steam engines. By the time I was ready to start work they had all been replaced by diesel machines. I later found out that the steam roller I was so keen to see on the roadworks was owned by the contractor and only used it because he was so keen on steam engines, in fact steam rollers had been out of action for at least a couple of decades since the '40s and '50s
Fred was doing the waterboard a service by checking the fire Hydants that they were working and clearing any loose rust in the pipe and valves they should have paid Fred for that service.
IS CHARACTURE THE RIGHT WORD I think he was something more than that. He came from the the bottom to being known worldwide for being a very nice guy a very clever guy a very intelligent guy to smash the poor to middle class to the top and he was very strong in mind to go to such heights. For me he was simply stupendous the type that won the 2nd world war. Far better than chumps like Kier Starmer and many more would be smart arses.
If Fred Dibnah is on the TV, its getting watched, the man is a legend
Always loved that he burned them down
As the chimney had one last smoke before its demise
Went down a Fred rabbit hole many years ago. Back again for another round.
