The entire season has been amazing in a word. So much variety in the stories. That's where SNW really shines. Great stories, well acted. The character development is what Gene Roddenberry would have been most proud of. The human story is continuing. As humans we are capable of such great things and also some horrible things. I am a life ling Star Trek fan. When I heard there was going to be a musical episode, all I thought was it was going to be a major disaster!!!! Now after watching this episode(I lost count after watching it again 4 times) it's becoming one of my favorite Star Trek episodes. Bravo to the cast & creative minds behind this episode🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖
I like that Ortegas' part (probably unintentionally) leaned into the whole "I fly the ship" thing from Rigel 7. She flies the ship. That is who she is.
Yeah I kinda like how she is basically written as an opposition to overly complex super deep characters. She flies. She's the best at it. And everyone loves her for being super authentic and straight forward. A well written character doesn't need to have over9000 layers to their personality.
I love how everyone has their own different reaction. Some are like "weird...oh well", some are kinda digging it, some are weirded out, and some (like Pike) are completely HORRIFIED. Amazing episode!!!
Star Trek- das Musical. Genial.
This episode will be remembered and will go down in history as one of the most loved episodes of all time. Unique, filled with humour and very entertaining. Are they trying to create a star trek musical for the stage?
As others have said, it's the little moments that really ice this already lovely cake. I especially love Pike's reaction to Ortegas. Up until that point, he's only been hearing members of the crew singing over comms. Even his own first line of "It's happening again" is more kind of spoken, so there's just that little look of uncertainty when he delivers it. But when Ortegas sings, it's the first time he actually sees/hears it happening in person and he's immediately like "OK, what the Farragut is happening?!!" 😁
Never thought I'd see the day where I'd say "I actually liked that episode of in Star Trek that was a musical"; but here we are. Also, this is handily my favorite song of the set.
1:49 The way the captain jumps up and backs away from Ortegas, like he's scared of the singing infecting him from being too close to it, is just great acting.
Sort of sad Ortega doesn’t get many song numbers in this episode, rewatching this and can see the actress seems like she actually nailed it. And of course her only song is her just stating her one thing.
I usually hate musical episodes, because a lot of the time it's just the cast singing already popular songs the entire episode for no real reason whatsoever. But this episode? They BUILT IT INTO THE PLOT. They WROTE THEIR OWN MUSIC AND SONGS AND EVEN DANCE NUMBERS. All of it felt natural for the characters and the show instead of OOC, and the way the numbers enhanced or inconvenienced the characters during this episode was very well thought-out. I genuinely squeaked when I realized Christine breaking up with Spock was the "villain song" of the musical, and the fact that they realized they had to follow the rules of a musical was the cherry on top. Everything coalesced into a grand finale that felt neither forced nor undeserved, and it was all just so so brilliant. You can tell the cast really enjoyed this episode a lot as well, as none of them looked stiff or uninterested in their performance but genuinely committed and engaged. THIS is how you do a musical episode, people. I can understand how anyone who hates musicals would hate this episode, but as someone who casually enjoys the odd musical this episode was so much fun for me to watch.
So different and so excellent. SNW is just pushing the boundaries back and enjoying itself. I am sure some don't like it. That is a personal preference issue. There is enough ST for them.
great episode, great season! ST Discovery, ST Strange New Worlds, Star Trek Picard, Star Trek Lower Decks, Star Trek Prodigy clearly carried the bar even higher levels that no other TV series can't even reach. (yes, I have intentionally added Prodigy & Lower Decks to annoy some conservative boomers!)
@@canonest I can't yet get into the animated series even though as a kid I watch the original series version. I have enough of what I like as it is. Picard S3 was excellent but S1 and S2 were just okay. Discovery started the revival but I don't see any more storyline left.
Musicals are not for everyone, I really dislike them... however, a well executed song will always be enjoyable, regardless of the awkwardness of the situation. This first song was decent, Spock had the best solo act of the entire episode (his "I'm the X" song is legitimately good), then Klingons as comedy relieve... really, even if you despise musicals, those moments are so entertaining, if you are not dead inside, you will at least crack a little smile (I mean, a vulkan calculating a romantic breakup, this is great)
God the fucking KLINGONS were glorious though. I was ready for a full on dramatic opera not...*what we got.* I legitimately can't remember the last time I laughed that hard from any kind of media!
The part that cracks me up is when Ortegas starts to sing, Pike jumps out of his chair and takes a step back, looking at her with that prefect WTF expression 🤣
I love the music and all, but my brain is going on about how lucky they were that the subspace flucuation wave didn't end them up in a radically different reality. ;) (Yes, I love the music, it's just how my brain works--I blame subspace!)
I have been watching Star Trek since the 70s (TOS) and this moment ... omg. One of the best Star Trek episodes to date, but only great because of all the history leading up to this moment. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
After watching this a few times (and a few dozen more), it sunk in for me how the opening notes of "Status Report" sound like standard BGM...until Spock starts singing, and then you realize that it's diegetic. Nice touch.
Anyone else notice the fact that the song they play in to the Subspace thingy that starts the plot is "Anything goes, by Cole Porter". A song about big changes to previously established things and how jarring that can be to the people living through those changes. I think they put it there as a type of "hey guys, we do things different from the old TOS days, like this literal musical episode. Don't get too hung up about it and just enjoy the show" kind of nod from the production team
I think most people enjoyed it just a few "TrUe HaRdCoRe FaNs" are trying to tell everyone what real trek is, and failing at it, for the billionth time.

One detail I just noticed, it's subtle but it's there. One instrument changes depending on who is singing. The strumming, when it's spock, it's a soft string, the doctors it's what sounds like a soft woodwind, then with ortag it's a stronger wind instrument, Una doesn't get one and La'an gets drums. Hows that for a detail?. It's like they picked instruments based on race or personality?

I was so suspicious about this after hearing about a "musical episode". No time to watch season 2 yet but this one is actually one i'll be looking forward to. Thanks for sharing.
Something my dad pointed out, everyone else save for Spock and La'an gave *opinions*. "Mundane". "All okay." Spock and La'an gave *facts*. "This is the state. This is the action I will take." Spock, he is Spock, duh. La'an? She is so tightly wound up that she doesn't trust her feelings, and we even see that be a strength with "emotions are a security risk" later on. She is 100% facts based when on the job. Great writing.
I loved Una's part in this, how her voice transitioned from dampner to hampered, and into all is okay. I watched this intro about 5 times before I got through the whole episode even once!

The entire season has been amazing in a word. So much variety in the stories. That's where SNW really shines. Great stories, well acted. The character development is what Gene Roddenberry would have been most proud of. The human story is continuing. As humans we are capable of such great things and also some horrible things. We must strive to better ourselves as Capt. Picard has said.
They boldly went where no Star Trek has gone before and did it with style. I like it more every time I hear it, and every damn song is an earworm.
I read an article on this episode and the production crew had absolutely no idea that Ethan Peck (Spock) could sing this well, and kinda went OMG WTF
We knew Spock could sing, he did a little bit in the second story with the comet!!
I think Ethan didn't know either lmao
When your dad is the baritone Gregory Peck...
Dude, I'm surprised all the main cast could sing good, lol.
@@geraldford6409 No way, I didn't realize his grandad (not his dad) was Gregory Peck though I suppose have should have noticed the surname lol
Dang, this was brilliant. I was heartbroken when Spock sung I'm the X...
I absolutely loved this episode. Watched it six times. Songs were great and it progressed the story forward.
Me too!

You could say it’s ahead of it’s time. Or at least something very untoward.
It1s the best episode of star trek there had ever been
Only six times? You need to give it even more love.
I believe it was the best series " Ever "
This is great Star Trek. This will come to be known as one of the best episodes in the entire franchise.
Sadly not .. on IMDB the reviews are mixed with leaning to bad ...
@rolerar2994 there were a few bad comments here, I am removing them, because this is what strange new worlds is about, it is not other series, the "die-hard" fans of the show with zero EQs are beating the crap out of it.
I'm a die-hard trekkie. I grew up watching this, I'm sorry you're having to deal with those people, Cannonest. For what it's worth? as a die-hard trekkie...I had no clue I needed Star Trek: The Musical, in my life...but i'm fucking glad that I have it. This is just a masterpiece. It's everything that Trek is. The Unknown of space, bites them, and even in their weirdest moment, they're still doing their jobs.@@canonest
I loved how the instrumentals were slightly tweaked for each singer to reference their personalities. Small touch but really well done 👏👌
Nice catch!
Especially La'An! I love the darker notes in her part. It fits so well!
I am a life ling Star Trek fan. When I heard there was going to be a musical episode, all I thought was it was going to be a major disaster!!!!
Now after watching this episode(I lost count after watching it again 4 times) it's becoming one of my favorite Star Trek episodes.
Bravo to the cast & creative minds behind this episode🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖🖖
sometimes things like that work very well. with "Buffy the slayer" for example. I didn't know anything about a musical. that completely surprised me.
What!..3 months in and I still can't get enough of this.
Singing Klingons? Just brilliant!!!!!! This episode needs an award .
Loved the entire “Subspace Rhapsody,” episode. Makes me wish our world was singing instead of warring. Bravo!
God yes, I agree on all accounts.
Music is the true universal language : )
I like that Ortegas' part (probably unintentionally) leaned into the whole "I fly the ship" thing from Rigel 7. She flies the ship. That is who she is.
Yeah I kinda like how she is basically written as an opposition to overly complex super deep characters. She flies. She's the best at it. And everyone loves her for being super authentic and straight forward. A well written character doesn't need to have over9000 layers to their personality.
This may go down in history as one of THE best star trek episodes of any era.
indeed!
or at least the most watched. i've replayed it a dozen times this week.
Correct statement.
Klingon boy band almost made me lose it.
@@kelsycunningham8452 you have not experienced K-pop until you heard it in the original Klingon
I love how everyone has their own different reaction. Some are like "weird...oh well", some are kinda digging it, some are weirded out, and some (like Pike) are completely HORRIFIED. Amazing episode!!!
Pike was more out of place with the singing cause he doesnt want to sing lol
Aahh thankyou thankyou! I just watched the episode and I wanted to hear the song over again!! ❤
My favourite part of this is how Pike physically recoils when Ortega joins in
I love How they Sing differently. The security officer sings kinda pissed
Star Trek- das Musical. Genial.
I didn't know that I was missing a musical Star Trek in my life until I saw this episode, but I was missing it, and I need MOAR
This episode will be remembered and will go down in history as one of the most loved episodes of all time. Unique, filled with humour and very entertaining. Are they trying to create a star trek musical for the stage?
indeed! & I hope so!
I'd definitely pay for a ticket for that!
Judging by this episode, a full Broadway Trek musical would be amazing.
Totally agree. Someone please make that happen 🎉
They have a pretty high standards if they want to beat this :) ruclips.net/video/R8SeysuMpA0/видео.html
I hope we'll "hear" more :)
She flies the ship.
Well at least we’ve established besides piloting she can certainly sing.
I do love the consistency in her character. She flies the ship. That's who she is.
@@EnterpriseKnightShe sure did fly the ship in unity with the Klingon helm officers in the epic ending lol.
I cannot believe this, I never would have thought this could happen and that it would be so, so good. I love it.
I was surprised at the singing talent in a bunch of people selected for acting skills, not singing. They all did unexpectedly well.
I love how they manage to do all their jobs while singing! It's awesome!
I am not sure I like it. I am sure however that I will watch it religiously, multiple times, until I find out.
This first song was decent, Spock had the best solo act of the entire episode (his "I'm the X" song is legitimately good), then Klingons as comedy relieve... really, even if you despise musicals, those moments are so entertaining, if you are not dead inside, you will at least crack a little smile (I mean, a vulkan calculating a romantic breakup, this is great)
Just loved how when they start singing they just have the biggest WTF is going on? look on their faces.
Pike is the king of "WTF?" faces.
Thanks for posting ! im loving it !
My cheeks hurt from smiling when they broke out into this beautiful musical
lol. same. cried a bit too.
God the fucking KLINGONS were glorious though. I was ready for a full on dramatic opera not...*what we got.* I legitimately can't remember the last time I laughed that hard from any kind of media!
2:50 I love that look on the captain's face)))
I listened to the scene and heard Pike sigh heavily at that moment)))
The part that cracks me up is when Ortegas starts to sing, Pike jumps out of his chair and takes a step back, looking at her with that prefect WTF expression 🤣
This is by far the best episode of Strange New World... The part with the Klingons is hilarious!!!
Christina Chong has a wonderful voice!
Before episode: ''Ugh.. a musical?''
After the episode im literally Sam Kirk vibin' hard!
I love the music and all, but my brain is going on about how lucky they were that the subspace flucuation wave didn't end them up in a radically different reality. ;) (Yes, I love the music, it's just how my brain works--I blame subspace!)
Wow. Amazing voices.
Bravo to the composer(s) of this episode.
I have been watching Star Trek since the 70s (TOS) and this moment ... omg. One of the best Star Trek episodes to date, but only great because of all the history leading up to this moment. I LOVE THIS SHOW.
😂😂😂 I need to start watching this series
This is the best Star Trek series since generations and it’s not even close
So brillant this song and episode became a classic
I’ve had this song stuck in my head all day
All systems stable!
I love how he gets scared when Ortegas starts singing
Darn. Spock is a great singer.
This reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, “Once more with feeling.” I loved that episode.
SNW actually references Buffy later on in the Briefing Room when they discuss 'Bunnies'.
@@lkgrave4959and “I’ve got a theory.”
I loved this episode and Buffy episode. I have the Buffy episode music CD.
Masterpiece. Absolute masterpiece.
After watching this a few times (and a few dozen more), it sunk in for me how the opening notes of "Status Report" sound like standard BGM...until Spock starts singing, and then you realize that it's diegetic. Nice touch.
I must say I enjoyed this ep more than I thought, Mooorrrr than I thought....
Sooo good, I love SNW so much, first star trek series ive seen and wow
Anyone else notice the fact that the song they play in to the Subspace thingy that starts the plot is "Anything goes, by Cole Porter".
A song about big changes to previously established things and how jarring that can be to the people living through those changes.
I think they put it there as a type of "hey guys, we do things different from the old TOS days, like this literal musical episode. Don't get too hung up about it and just enjoy the show" kind of nod from the production team
yup.
I was wondering what was the name of that song so I lyric searched what I could make out of it. Then I found you comment. 👍
I find that Rebecca Romain has a great talent for musical theater. All the cast did actually. Such a well made episode.
Star Trek the Musical!
Coming to a stage near you!
Why not...
I'd loved that!
I figure if Star Wars can have a burlesque show, Star Trek deserves Broadway!
I actually really enjoyed this episode and the series just keeps getting better
I think most people enjoyed it just a few "TrUe HaRdCoRe FaNs" are trying to tell everyone what real trek is, and failing at it, for the billionth time.
I couldn't stop laughing. This is so funny.
YEAH!

Such a fun episode! So many unexpectedly wonderful voices!
Star Trek as an OPERA!!! WOWWWWWWWWWWWW! Bravo/Brava!
I really liked the sight of the singing Klingons later in the episode
I don't hate musicals, but I'm not a huge fan either, and I never thought a star trek episode would have a musical in it. This was amazingly done, I have seriously watched this over 100 times. I have also recorded myself singing this entire song with it running in the background, it's so catchy I love it. This has to win awards, so many people are in love with it, make this go Viral please
I’m a huge fan of musicals! I admit, I was a bit unsure how Star Trek would pull this kind of thing off, despite all the goofy things it’s done over the years. But as soon as the first song happened, I was hooked! This episode was amazing!
I was so suspicious about this after hearing about a "musical episode". No time to watch season 2 yet but this one is actually one i'll be looking forward to. Thanks for sharing.
Something my dad pointed out, everyone else save for Spock and La'an gave *opinions*. "Mundane". "All okay."
Spock and La'an gave *facts*. "This is the state. This is the action I will take."
Spock, he is Spock, duh.
La'an? She is so tightly wound up that she doesn't trust her feelings, and we even see that be a strength with "emotions are a security risk" later on. She is 100% facts based when on the job.
Great writing.
That little headshake from Pike after Una sings that everything's ok. Gets me every time. XD
we're signing but all is OK :)))
Pike's like: "No, it's not" His reactions to everyone signing was great
I love the look on her face, even as she sung the words, you can tell she didn't believe them.
I loved Una's part in this, how her voice transitioned from dampner to hampered, and into all is okay. I watched this intro about 5 times before I got through the whole episode even once!
Ikr!
This tune has been my earworm for weeks now. Its so good!
This crew have some serious pipes
Best music I have heard in long time LOL😳
Thanks for uploading! I have been loading this episode up and have been listening to it whenever I have been having the CRAVING
I’ve watched this many times. Never tire of it
I really loved the episode, they had some fun and it showed.
The Klingon boy group was fun but I would have loved to hear some Klingon Opera.
Not sure if I'm liking this new iteration of star trek as yet but than again i haven't seem many episodes.. What i do like, is this segment... I would describe it as beautiful.
The actors and actress really know how to sing.
This season been Slaying it! This is a Classic all time episode so good!
brilliant episode so creative - intelligent wow
This needs to win awards for sure.
I wonder if there was ever a musical episode pitched on one of the multiple multiple star trek series of shows
