What also hurt the Bengals also was Chris Henry getting hurt too on the same drive as Carson Palmer. They(The Steelers) had no answer for him. Once he got hurt, the offense wasn't as dynamic. It's a shame. That 2005 Bengals team was going to be the beginning of a powerhouse.

Then he got hurt along with Carson who had an arm strong enough to make the throws needed on the same drive. Look at how they won this game. When they lost that playoff game, they weren't the same.

The story of the game was the terrible towel shoeshine. What really shocks me on watching closely 17 years later: The Bengals are the more physical team in every phase. The OL is totally having their way with Steeler zone blitzes, zero pressure, pass rush is wearing them out, so Run Game takes over 2nd half. On Defense its more even as a shootout happens, but the Steelers are forced to pass, which they dont want to do in 04-05. They passed for 2500 yards a season; they want to run always back then.

A close game. The Steelers played better football in every regard EXCEPT turnovers. Take away all the fumbling on the part of the RBs and some of the missed catches by Plax (he never was a REAL Steeler) and the Stillers take this game by 10pts. Cinci was hot this year however, Ocho and Hush were definitely one of the elite receiver squads in the league this year, and the Steelers had yet to ditch Plax for Santonio Holmes. Luckily we held on to dominate the WildCard (sorry Cinci), knock out the Colts (Goat QB of this era - Manning) and took the damn thing all the way home to Detroit. One of the best years to be a Steeler fan. Actually, the whole damn era from 2005 - 2010 was INSANE. 3 Superbowl runs (05, 08, 10) with 2 wins. No doubt the Stillers had "The Magic" in this era. Bengals played a solid game, had fewer turnovers, and got a lucky win. But you cannot deny the Steelers had more raw talent at QB and a more complete roster on defense, and that sealed the deal. Definitely the more complete team from 2005-2010 and CERTAINLY the strongest contender in the AFC North at this time.

Watching this game closely, with 2 sec rewinds and its a shock to me. Knowing the season's story; You expect: A weaker pass happy team with arrogant receivers stealing an upset. Thats NOT whats going on The Bengals are the more physical team in every phase. On off The OL is totally having their way with Steeler zone blitzes, zero pressure, pass rush is wearing them out, so Run Game takes over 2nd half. (Typical 2000's NFL tactics, even for run based teams: screen and short pass 1st half, blast them with run blocking 2nd half, tactics still used a lot today) The Steelers O is pass blocking well but can't run all 1st half. Hines Ward fumbles on big hits. THEN 1:20:36 happens, a long kickoff in which the returner dragged a Steeler 40 yards?? THATS embarassing, for a Physical team like Pitt.

Bengals would’ve made the super bowl this year had Palmer not gone down the first fuckin play of the playoffs

I'm not a true bengals fan, but I was definitely rooting for the bengals to win the afc that year. Watching the first td pass by Palmer to TJ in this game shows you how dangerous the steelers knew this team was with Carson at Qb

Is there a more nauseating color commentator than Dierdorf?

I was stupid enough to think my Bungholes has a shot at the Super Bowl that year..
God was I wrong. Bengals sucked then and still suck today..

My Bengals definitely didn't suck in 2005. Today is a different story...
