- This was a sweet catch for us, as #14 arrived into Portland with a busted up windshield on unit #174. Shown in this video are multiple shots of this train, among others (including phase IV Heritage Unit 184 as it departs with Amtrak #8/28). The whole process of swapping the locomotive is shown. The windshield was busted up so badly, that 174 became unsafe to see out of - so they had to put #510 up front. Coast Starlight, Empire Builder, and Amtrak Cascades are all shown in this video - Union Station, Portland Oregon. Let me know what ya think! (Disclaimer: Video was shot and produced when I was formerly known as 'SkyAdventures97'. I am now AmtrakPNW).
Awesome video Cole! I like how the Dash 8 got put in front of 174. Nice catch with 28 as well with 184!
+tcrailfan15 Yeah, it was a fun night, Other than it being 29 degrees. Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
Fun!
Nice video & catches!!! Wow, how has to be Bird that strong to crack that big windshield, interesting situation happended. Nice catch on the 184, missed that unit a lot too.
+Union Pacific 1982 Thanks! Yeah it was a fun night catching all of this. And yes - must have been a huge bird. I think you can see some sort of bird carnage on the left of the screen when I zoom into the cracked window when its in the station. The train actually ended up going into emergency when it happened - because although there was 2 engineers in the train - the one that was at the controls was on the right side, where the bird hit.
I'm liking the train videos :)
+Flightbudy2channel Well thanks so much Aaron! We'll go out and railfan sometime if your up for it. Thanks for watching!
The moral to this story is: if you're a bird, never play chicken with a train. Your goose will be cooked.
Exactly. Thanks for watching!
That's a Super rare Treat
+Jake G Indeed. I was very thrilled to have caught something like this. Thanks for watching!
What is the K designation on the speed limit post? I know of the T for Talgo P Passenger and F Freight.
+Steven Katkus You know, Ive always wondered that myself. I tried looking it up but couldnt find the answer. Thanks for watching!
why not a camera under a train video?
Funnily enough 174 is now in Phase 7 colors
How long was the train stopped for to allow this maneuver?
+amtrak1008 The train arrived into Portland about 40 minutes late, and departed 1.5 hours late. The whole process took roughly 45 minutes.
Cool video! Just subbed!
+JaxRailfanner Thanks so much for watching!
Great video!
+PNWRailfan Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching!
i was driving a train that got a bottle throne at it
Some bored kid probably threw a rock at it when it was goibg fast
+--MASTER Pilot Vlogs and reviews-- I was told by an Amtrak employee that it was a large bird. But i'm not sure how accurate that is. Thanks for watching!
