Personally, what I love is the backward compatibility / 4k upgrades to old games that led me to buy a Series X.
I love collecting old physical copies of xbox/360 games that were upgraded to their best versions, yet can be found pretty cheap.
i prefer spending 70$ on like 13 old games than buying a new one for the same price.

I’m a physical media guy…I’m also a huge music fan that still buys CDs. Having intangible media…is like owning a burned homemade copy of a music album….it cool…but seeing the album sleeve reading the the liner notes got me hooked….

I agree. I feel the same about physical movies. Something about reading, seeing the artwork, and holding it that you can't replace. I switched to digital music when DRM was finally dropped on digital storefronts many years ago just due to convenience. I just wished physical games had all the fixes in when pressed and no DRM on consoles.

Good to see you mentioned Japan's renewed interest in Xbox, as that's honestly been the most interesting development for me. I recall brainstorming a few things I would change about Microsoft's strategy regarding the Xbox Series (relaxing content guidelines, adding more Japanese games, and mobile phones and public transport), but I admit it never occurred to me that the Series S model was a really good fit for Japanese gamers. Why, you ask? It's for the same reason they don't buy the PS5: space (or a lack thereof). The Series S is powerful enough to satisfy the market who wants to play the newest games (via Game Pass), while also being compact enough to fit in a small city apartment.
Based on the numbers I've seen, I think the PS5 is going to outsell the Xbox no matter what Microsoft does. However, I predict the Xbox will see a very consistent amount of growth over the next few years. If they make the necessary changes I've outlined, then they will tap into the hyper-consumer/otaku market basically overnight, which would be a good thing for them. But as of now, I'm pretty impressed.

  • @thekidzcantfathom

Series X was my first ever Xbox purchase. I was never into Xbox, but the more I heard about Game Pass and hardware specs, the more interested I became in the console. Not only do I feel like it can keep up with PS5--spec wise, not to mention more readily available than the PS5--- it seemed like the more consumer friendly purchase. I get a lot of mileage out of the system. I don't see a need for a PS5 at the moment (even if I could purchase one at retail price).

@@MichaelM28 Not only Game Pass is a Trojan Horse that will start going up at price when they got the hold on the market they wish but also it is useless.
Sure if you own no game and you just got a console first time trying to get into games then Game Pass might seem fine to pay a little to have some collection of games to get your teeth into.
BUT let's be honest when you have so many games you barely enjoy much. You just try one a little then the other etc. Is not the same as actually buying a game and looking to get your money's worth and digging into it to find the joy in it and finding some good things you never expected.

I think the new generation as a whole has had a rather lackluster two years of existence. We all know that both the Xbox One and PS4 took until 2015-2017 to really start blowing out exciting worthwhile titles on a consistent basis, so it's still rather early in the new generation to judge it entirely (not saying that you are), so I'm hopeful that the next 2-3 years to come is where we really start to see some heavy hitters on a much more consistent basis. Hard to say for certain, though...
But truthfully, at this point, I'm much more invested in what Nintendo's next endeavor is going to be than what Microsoft or Sony are going to do with this current generation. I say "at this point" as it could change as new things emerge from all three angles in the coming years, but as much as I love my Xbox 360 and Series S, Nintendo is where I aim my focus in the grand scheme of it all..

I'm glad Xbox take a different approach than PS5, because I'm not a huge fan of spending money on expensive controllers and new games. Coming from PC gaming, there's joy from playing old games that I played before, on new hardware with improved performance.
Besides, as working adult I don't have much time for gaming so every games released from the past few years are still relatively new experience for me.

As a big Xbox fan I do like the eco System. I'm a big series S user at home, mainly due to the low amount of watts it uses during gameplay, so its a fraction of the cost of run compared to my series X, and as the cost of electric is just a disaster right now that helps the bills a bit. But I'm happy they are at least still going. Thanks again Adam, Enjoy Japan.

XBox Series X had my interest as a potential purchase for this generation of gaming, but this video of yours has got me concerned that I might never buy an XBox console. Sony deactivated the CBomb via backdoor which while not being professional, is still a commendable job coz at the end of the day, gamers get to play their games offline as long as their consoles last. I was waiting for Microsoft to follow suit but when you said how Microsoft keeps stuffing your face with GamePass Advertisements, that would probably never happen. Thank God we have GOG on Windows, which I think is CDPR's best work to date. I understand your pain & longing for physical discs; even I thought the same, but the fact is that the disc would never have the latest improvement patches & some releases are only digital, so as long as we have offline access to all our content, I'm personally fine. Great video as always!
PS:- It would be awesome to see 4 TB SSDs in the future versions of these consoles. I feel that this gen would decide whether we move on to 120 fps in next gen ...

I consider the 360 and PS3 the last "Physical" gaming console, even though games could be downloaded on them. The next 2 generations made me question if I should buy the consoles (and I did buy some) or just wait for PC releases.
I understand the PS4 and XBox One still had physical games, but they had to download to your system rather than read off the disc like older systems. The advantage, I guess, is less stress on the disc reader.
As for the Xbox Monopoly, I see how they still develop Minecraft on other platforms so I don't see that being any different with Activision.

It kind of makes me sad they’re not fighting as hard with Sony and becoming more of a streaming company with gamepass, this makes me worried they’re not taking exclusive games seriously, even Phil Spencer mentioned exclusive games will be something we see less and less, I hope they give us xbox gamers the exclusives they promised to give us.

I think an interesting point to supplement what you have said about Microsoft's strategy and the Series X not having as much of a "Soul" also applies to the PS5, but more mildly. The PS5 comparatively speaking does not have as many "true" exclusives that also aren't on PS4, outside of Demon's Souls, Returnal, and Ratchet and Clank. Yes this will change, and yes the controller features are definitely next gen, and yes the UI has been updated and isn't just a beefed up PS4 completely, but the cross gen games and less of a "jump" are definitely felt there as of now. I feel like consoles as a whole are becoming more streamlined and just updates to their more recent hardware. I wonder if Nintendo will release a "Super Switch" which is literally the same thing with full backwards compatibility, but same UI and an updated chipset inside.

Series X are actually very easy to find in stores now, they are regularly at the store I work at and we got about 40 in the back, no joke. But yeah the first 20+ months or so were kind of ridiculous. And yeah it's about game pass, and I would imagine because they said they lose between $100-200 per console on Series S and X that they would be tickled if someone played on PC and subscribed to Game Pass there instead. Cuz then they can just collect the checks instead of having to pay out.

So some games would be 4k 30fps or 4k 60fps on One X while 1080p on Series S. I suspect that the one X is gonna be very valuable in the years to come for collectors due to the fact that the one X was only produced for a few years. I love xbox but I hate what MS is doing to gaming. Gamepass is ok but I either own the games worth playing or I have no desire to play the rest. I just want the AAA games that take advantage of the X. It needs God of War caliber games. They obviously can't do it internally so they are buying whoever they can. Whatever, just bring the games.

Literally have no reason to get an X been a massive disappointment for me. Was hoping they were doing a Nintendo with the wii u and just moving all their projects over to the new system but fact that most of the game they revealed at launch are not even out is crazy where PlayStation has been incredible with stuff like returnal and now the new god of war. I think if Xbox didn’t have the backing of Microsoft they would of died out ages ago

I'm still not on board with Game Pass for a similar reason. I'm not against digital, but I am against not having the game available to play if that makes sense. If my internet is down, I want to still be able to pop a disc in and have it work that way. Digital games sometimes need to check in online, but not always. Game Pass always has to be online period no questions asked. Plus, if I enjoy a game there and its time on Game Pass expires I now can't play it. So that bums me out.

This is why i like Adam... he calls it as it is from a gamer standpoint 35 years old and you have been there from pretty much the beginning of gaming being popular with NES going forward! i also know... same age hahaha! not saying Atari wasn't or ColecoVision/Intelivision wasn't but gaming really started getting popular with NES and Sega.. But i agree with him 100% and i love my Xbox Series X to!! but its a true analysis of the actual console and what its about... Good video Adam! and pretty much on the point with everything i have noticed and have observed from how the Series X has gone in the past 2 years!

In my opinion, it would hurt Sony more if the activision acquisition doesn’t go through. Let’s put it this way, it’s no secret Sony has been trying to block this and using every snakey trick in the book. So imagine if it was blocked. Microsoft would technically have 68 billion dollars to really play hard with Sony. I think They go after Sony really hard, I really feel that’s what they would do. And why not Sony are not playing fair, so why should if Microsoft at that point . They would pay for 1 year exclusives left right and centre, they would spend all that money on other stuff to piss off and technically compete with Sony

To me the one thing that made Xbox unique was Microsoft’s pursuit of making og Xbox & Xbox 360 games backwards compatible, but they abandoned that quite awhile ago, that kind of strikes me as a blow to Gamepass since we won’t see anything else on there except current gen games. Look at Steam or GOG, the number of old school games on those platforms is staggering, blows the piss outta Gamepass. The only reason I keep up with Xbox nowadays is because I’m still a Halo & Gears fan, lol. If Halo & Gears were on PlayStation, I would have absolutely no need for Xbox.

Im not a big digital guy either… but Game Pass really did change my tune to an extent. Its almost too convenient, which is why its successful and why MS is pushing hard for it. Besides 4K, probably some degree of future proofing, and compatibility with some disk games I basically have no reason to grab the Series X over the Series S, which is as you said a drop in replacement for my Xbox One S (and I could still have that hooked up too for when I need the disk slot). Wouldn’t be surprised if MS drops a new version of the X without a disk slot in a smaller form factor soon.

Game pass is utterly pointless to me since I want physical games in a box on a disc.

I picked up a Series S a few months ago and I've loved it. Game Pass is amazing of course, but the Series S allows me the opportunity to play some bigger titles that I know are never coming to the Switch like Elden Ring. Most of the PlayStation exclusives don't interest me outside of Spider Man and Ratchet and Clank, so having a Switch/Series S is itching most of the gaming scratches that I have.

None of those PS5 games are games that could be made to play on PS4. It’s not like the games on the PS5 are a generation ahead of the PS4. In a way the Microsoft model is much better in that if the game can still run on Xbox one, then it will still get released on it and not abandon those players. Once games advance and are large enough that they will no longer run on Xbox one, then Xbox will not enforce the rule like with flight sim for example.

    • @nicko5945
      @nicko5945 2 года назад

@@MichaelM28 I’ll give you that it won’t run at the same level as the PS5 I.e. resolution, frame rate, etc. PS4 pro could still run them though. My point is that Sony and Microsoft aren’t using the series x and PS5 to their full potential yet and so not why have the game backwards compatible while they still can be.

  • @kipters

Architecturally the Series X/S are quite different from the One, they're just made so it feels like "just an upgrade", but there's a lot going on behind the scenes. Ironically enough, the "secret sauce" for this is in the software architecture.

  • @immortallix

I've had the series x for a little less than a year and I feel like Microsoft doesn't give a crap about us.
Still no support for usb audio, which even the switch and ps4 have. Nothing but ads on the dashboard, no attempt for more 3rd party storage options (just that expensive Seagate drive), and to top it all off the system doesn't even stay off.
I don't play my series x that often so I keep a dust cover on the top, which I have to unplug the system to do otherwise the fan will spin up when the xbox feels like it.
Wish there was an option to just install the xbone versions of games so I could play them off an external hdd.

To say the x is an upgrade is quite wrong from Adam. What He means is the ui is looking the same but of course its a new sw /fw written for the series x/s . With Quick Resume, smart delivery and mp online its superior to the ps5 sw. Especially online PS sucks in many ways thinking about cloud saves you have to pay and other flaws.
